to think that you should not lie your baby down on her changing mat and change her nappy on the floor in the middle of a crowded exhibition hall?

I expect I'll get some yanbus as I've seen people attempting to justify changing nappies in restaurants and libraries before now.

But, it's just really not on, is it?

I worked in a nursery and we always ensured privacy and dignity for the babies in our care. They're still human beings. Confused

GrandstandingBlueTit · 10/11/2013 18:34

You do realise you can stop the smell by taking them somewhere else to be changed as well, right? I'm beginning to think people obviously don't...

By all means continue to change your child as and when. Just stop being surprised when people look at you as if you have absolutely no cop-on.

Mintyy · 10/11/2013 18:35

Its amazing how people don't get it, isn't it?

It is poo/shit/excrement/faeces. No one wants to see it. Please think of others.

'Unacceptable in the exact same way it would be unacceptable for you to back one out in an auditorium or cafe, complete with audience'

But the child is going to 'back one out' regardless of the nappy change situation. We're not discussing 'should a child poo during an exhibition?'. The poo is already there. The question is to change or not to change. Or are you saying babies are unreasonable for pooing in polite company? Confused

candycoatedwaterdrops · 10/11/2013 18:36

I don't understand why you can't be bothered to find a toilet Outraged, are you that lazy? It's not that baby poo offends me, it's just that it's not weird behaviour. Toilets are for toileting and changing! Again, there are exceptions but to plonk your baby down on the floor when you could walk to changing facilities is plain lazy.

OutragedFromLeeds · 10/11/2013 18:36

but did they care Candy, honestly?

candycoatedwaterdrops · 10/11/2013 18:37

It is weird behaviour, not that it's NOT weird.

candycoatedwaterdrops · 10/11/2013 18:38

Did they care? Who knows?! Ofsted expected it though and the parents saw that we treated the babies like small humans, which they are.

cannotfuckingbelievethis · 10/11/2013 18:39

zatyaballerina

If someone changes it in an area which serves food (which I had the horror to witness recently), there should be a criminal prosecution for endangering public health with jail time on top of a massive fine. Filthy people

FFS I'd love to hear your views on GBH and burglary.

'I don't understand why you can't be bothered to find a toilet Outraged, are you that lazy?'

I guess I must be. If there are toilets easily available, I'll use them. If for example, we're in the library, in the children's section (ground floor) and the changing facilities are third floor (lift out of order) and I have all four of them with me, I'll do it in a quiet corner.

The only people who will see the poo are those looking. It's visible for probably 5 seconds and we're in a corner.

OutragedFromLeeds · 10/11/2013 18:41

Maybe I should make an announcement and get a hazard triangle to warn people not to look?

GrandstandingBlueTit · 10/11/2013 18:42

As I say, Outraged, carry on doing it.

But at least you're now under no illusions as to what most people are thinking. :)

GrandstandingBlueTit · 10/11/2013 18:43

It would be probably be easier and less hassle to just go to the bathroom. Confused

It's shit. Why don't people get get? Confused

It just shouldn't be changed in public. I have one in nappies. Sometimes an emergency strikes but I would rather take a few minutes trying to find somewhere than change a shitty nappy in the middle of public.

I'm relatively immune to my toddler's poo. Doesn't mean anyone else is.

Other posters are right saying that when you change a nappy 6 times a day you start to forget that most people don't, and have no interest in seeing the contents of some random baby's nappy.

josephinebruce · 10/11/2013 18:47

I really can't understand why people think this is acceptable.

And yes, I really don't like watching women bf - wouldn't stop them, wouldn't want to - but I just don't like it.

They are entitled to do it - but I am also entitled to find it icky.

OutragedFromLeeds · 10/11/2013 18:47

'It would be probably be easier and less hassle to just go to the bathroom'

In the library scenario? Definitely not.

How long does a nanny change take iye? And how much mess is there?

For me it's a 30 second, start to finish, procedure. Definitely easier to do it there than lug the kids and the buggy up three flight of stairs.

OutragedFromLeeds · 10/11/2013 18:48

*Freudian slip....nappy change.

'Is there not a difference between shit enclosed in a nappy and shit open to the air/table/floor?'

There is, but it's for 5 seconds. I just can't get all upset and outraged over 5 seconds. I'm really trying, but I just can't.

candycoatedwaterdrops · 10/11/2013 18:51

I don't get it either. Shit is shit, regardless of its owner.

candycoatedwaterdrops · 10/11/2013 18:52

I need to go, I'm spending too much time discussing poo. Grin

Idespair · 10/11/2013 18:52

Lucky someone didn't trip and fall onto the baby and injure her. It's bizarre behaviour but then the streets we walk around on are covered in dog poo so the baby poo wouldn't bother me much but it seems silly from a safety pov.

OutragedFromLeeds · 10/11/2013 18:54

'Do you spend a lot of time in a library with a broken lift Outraged?'

Actually yes, but only once required a nappy change thankfully! if you see my first post, it was that I changed a pooey nappy in a library once as libraries were specifically mentioned in the OP, so it seemed relevant.
