So many non-English voices, especially East Europeans, but so many different nationalities en masse it seems have moved here in the last 10-20 years - completely unprecedented historically. And in an already very over-crowded island.

Today I read Labour MP Frank Field say that the population increase due to immigration by 2031, i.e. less than 20 years, will be approximately 10 million and will require building something like seven new Birminghams! Or another London! Based on latest predictions in the papers today anyway.

Did Blair and Mandelson envisage this when they signed up for European Community rules on immigration and refugees? Or did they cynically not care because it meant cheap labour, cheap votes, increased profits (via membership of the European Community).

Did the architects of this policy not consider how it would affect housing, jobs and education and the resulting massive investment needed there, and the over-crowded population we have already.

I believe we have never been consulted or told anything honestly about what the consequences of EC membership was immigration-wise, if indeed there was ever any plan (doesn't seem to be, just a kind of opportunistic carpetbaggers philosophy approach of selling England by the pound).

I feel deceived and hoodwinked really. But are there any more positive thoughts on this? I find it v. depressing.

I do know that the Republic of ireland is not part of the UK.

But that doesnt mean that it cannot have more people. From what I have seen and know, it could do with a lot more people. The tourist attractions, of which there are a lot, could certainly benefit from them.

The world population increase has to go somewhere. From what I have seen of the Republic of Ireland, they would be welcoming of them.

I should imagine there are other countries who would welcome some more too. Not to forget Scotland.

My Granny always started hers in October and by the time Christmas rolled around you could have lit it from 30 paces away with an extinguished match. God I miss her cake.

YouTheCat · 07/11/2013 23:14

I can't stretch to handmade arty clarty stuff.

Uh-oh, sleep suddenly arrived, have to go... [yawn]

"Doesn't change the fact that the OP Has Very Racist Views Whilst Managing Apparently Not To Be Racist"

Yeah, but for some reason racists hate to be identified as such. They are happy to air their views, but don't like it when you point out they are actual racists.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 07/11/2013 23:38

@minimonty

It is unprecedented in British or European history to have a movement of so many people into any country....In 2012 Two Hundred and Sixteen Thousand people migrated to Britain and it was Two Hundred and Fifty Two Thousand the year before (figures from the BBC).

  • Approx 200,000 Poles settled in the UK after World War II - back when we had a population of less than 50 million.
  • 1851 census of the UK showed 400,000 people were Irish born (after the Potato famine) - approx 29 million UK population at the time.

Couple of precedents for you and the OP.

Misspixietrix · 08/11/2013 00:08

YouTheCat I'll have the Chocolate one. I don't do Christmas cake.

Jinsei · 08/11/2013 00:08

It's not people who live in multicultural areas that spout racist bollocks.

we live it,we know what it's like.

Our children go to school with children from all over the world.

It's normal for them.

I couldn't agree more, usual. I live in a very diverse area which has been multicultural for decades. There are lots of new immigrants and lots of 2nd/3rd generation immigrants too. DD's school has a high proportion of children with EAL, a new boy joined her class just this week - he doesn't speak much English now, but the other children are helping him learn. I think there are around 40 native languages in the school overall. They all help to celebrate each other's religions and festivals. They all play together and mix quite happily. The parents mix quite happily too.

For me, such diversity is normal - a non-issue. It's a shame that others choose to make it into a problem.

Misspixietrix · 08/11/2013 00:09

Or Fruit Cake for that matter. Me and the Ex had Chocolate Cake for our wedding! :)

Misspixietrix · 08/11/2013 00:12

Jinsei That's the thing that makes me admire Young Children. They have no preconceptions or prejudices unlike some Judgemental Adults. :)

feelingood · 08/11/2013 00:16

Oh we having a tiered choc cake for our renewal (controversial on here O know)

Misspixietrix · 08/11/2013 00:19

littlemisssarcastic Brilliant Video link! AtTheIstane that's okay. Just don't do it again okay? Grin

Jinsei · 08/11/2013 00:20

Yes,misspixie, it's lovely to see children when they are so completely accepting of difference. However, I think this can be lost quite quickly if the environment they're I'm doesn't nurture it.

DD's school is fantastic at encouraging integration. They don't just tolerate differences and manage the diversity - they positively value and celebrate it.

Misspixietrix · 08/11/2013 00:24

Oh yes I know. I have a DN who holds such views. Because his Dad does. Funnikmky enough they never voice their opinions to an Immigrants face neither.

Misspixietrix · 08/11/2013 00:27

*Funnily that's meant to say. I try and educate DN as best as I can but I know its always undone.

Kytti · 08/11/2013 01:48

Move out then.

Misspixietrix · 08/11/2013 06:55

kytti "Move out then" is that aimed at me? Because if it is it makes no sense given I'm talking about my Nephew and not someone I live with permanantly Confused

prettybird · 08/11/2013 07:59

In case you weren't aware Trish5000 , Scotland is still part of the UK Hmm. Therefore, it is subject to the same immigration rules as the rest of the UK - and suffers due to a lack of immigrants as a result, quite contrary to the fear mongering of the OP and some of the subsequent goady fuckers ill-informed posters.

This is one consequence of such South Eastern driven policies. Sad
