So many non-English voices, especially East Europeans, but so many different nationalities en masse it seems have moved here in the last 10-20 years - completely unprecedented historically. And in an already very over-crowded island.

Today I read Labour MP Frank Field say that the population increase due to immigration by 2031, i.e. less than 20 years, will be approximately 10 million and will require building something like seven new Birminghams! Or another London! Based on latest predictions in the papers today anyway.

Did Blair and Mandelson envisage this when they signed up for European Community rules on immigration and refugees? Or did they cynically not care because it meant cheap labour, cheap votes, increased profits (via membership of the European Community).

Did the architects of this policy not consider how it would affect housing, jobs and education and the resulting massive investment needed there, and the over-crowded population we have already.

I believe we have never been consulted or told anything honestly about what the consequences of EC membership was immigration-wise, if indeed there was ever any plan (doesn't seem to be, just a kind of opportunistic carpetbaggers philosophy approach of selling England by the pound).

I feel deceived and hoodwinked really. But are there any more positive thoughts on this? I find it v. depressing.

feelingood yes I've relocated several times for my/DH's work too, including overseas. I've always been grateful for the openness with which other nations and cultures have accepted me. Just one of the many reasons why I practice the same for people coming to the UK.

dozeydoris · 07/11/2013 20:41

My DD is in the south-east and there is a definite upturn in house building there.

feelingood · 07/11/2013 20:53

its picked up here too houses in bracket are selling again

MrsOakenshield · 07/11/2013 21:05

I've got my pedant's hat on, but could it be that MNHQ haven't deleted some posts because they aren't racist, because a white Brit cannot be racist about a white Pole, for example, as they are the same race? So racist no, but hugely xenophobic, unsubstantiated bollocks, yes? Which there doesn't seem to be a policy on?

(I should say I haven't read the whole thing, last time I looked it was on page 25 so I'm a bit behind.)

BIWI · 07/11/2013 21:05

Well my post was deleted as well. I suspect because I called the OP a Goady Fucker.

I'd like to know, MNHQ, why that was wrong?

And I'd also like to know why the OP's posts - which are blatantly racist - have been allowed to stand?

This is absolutely appalling and really worrying.

I'm both shocked and disappointed and actually revolted that you would let this thread and the OP stand. I thought better of you.

anewdispensation · 07/11/2013 21:09

Never has so much wisdom been spoken by so many Smile

feelingood · 07/11/2013 21:16

there seems to be a difference of opinion on what constitutes racism or not both within the thread and by MNHQ.

BIWI maybe because the point is whether you right or wrong it was name calling simple as that.

I think MNHQ are on a hiding to nothing if they try and clarify what is deemed racists or not for so many posts that may fall within a 'grey' area. I dont think some parts of the original OP was very well worded but I think I get what she was trying to say initally.

I think it is also fair to say that different levels of ability of posters to articulate points, on an extremely complex issue, can come make some posters be misconstrued. I'm trying to be positive in light of a highly evocative and contentious thread.

prettybird · 07/11/2013 21:34

trish500 wants to know what parts of the Uk would actually want immigration.

I'd already stated earlier that Scotland for one example does want - nay needs immigration.

Here's one article that gives a bit of background.

I repeat my frustration about immigration policy being driven by UKIP fearing, Daily Mail reading, South Eastern biased Tory party.

The only positives of threads like this (MNHQ deletions notwithstanding Hmm) is that it gives me hope that such racist policies are being resisted.

We need people to continue to call-out racism and prejudice and misconceptions when they seem them even if it means they end up being deleted by MNHQ Hmm

feelingood · 07/11/2013 21:42

parts?

surely it would hav to be a natinal policy - I dont understand.

Sometimes its not yes or no to immigrations its yes but....

usualsuspect · 07/11/2013 22:00

That's exactly how I feel,BIWI.

I'm disgusted that this thread has been allowed to remain.

YouTheCat · 07/11/2013 22:11

The RoI's population density is entirely irrelevant to anything. It is not part of the UK. Ffs. Look at a map.

prettybird · 07/11/2013 22:18

Are we allowed to comment on the apparent ignorance of someone who allegedly didn't realise that Southern Ireland wasn't part of the UK? Hmm

After all, it would be a fact that anyone who didn't know that was indeed an ignorant fu... person. Grin

feelingood · 07/11/2013 22:20

I pointed that out you and pretty without being so...wel like how you guys put it do keep up

YouTheCat · 07/11/2013 22:21

All this bigotry always comes from a point of ignorance.

YouTheCat · 07/11/2013 22:21

I pointed it out too, but was ignored.

feelingood · 07/11/2013 22:24

Sometimes it is not due to ignorance it canbe a reluctance to accept ro change ones POV

Misspixietrix · 07/11/2013 22:26

Arf at Banker Bashing! Erm? Okay then! Hmm. To be fair HQ I'm a bit agog at the whole deleting thing too. Seeing as I take it this thread isn't going to be deleted lets all just fill the rest of it with random nonsense you know in the Spirit of the thread like Grin

AthelstaneTheUnreadyFucker · 07/11/2013 22:33

In that case, Misspixie; for dinner today I had steak and wine and lettuce. Deeply unplanned shopping trip went sour.

YouTheCat · 07/11/2013 22:37

I had sausages and mash. I'm making a Christmas cake tomorrow. I hope it works this time.

feelingood · 07/11/2013 22:48

Now I really want to insult YouTheCat for mentioning the cake thing....oooh such a raw nerve go on go on go on..tell me you are making homemade sweets and jars of brandied stuff.....

Misspixietrix · 07/11/2013 22:54

AtTheIstane Lettuce?! With Steak?!

Misspixietrix · 07/11/2013 22:56

Farage is on Question Time (again!). Mentioning half the Ill-Informed things that have been mentioned in here you know Hospitals Schools etc

Serendipity30 · 07/11/2013 22:58

I'm concerned about how many Brits have emigrated abroad, and are using other countries resources, how about that OP?

YouTheCat · 07/11/2013 22:58

I am going to have a bash at rum truffles but not tomorrow.

Christmas cake baking and then put away and fed booze. Chocolate cake for ds's treat.

AthelstaneTheUnreadyFucker · 07/11/2013 23:04

sorry, pixie Blush - I Do Not Know what possessed me to buy fecking lettuce; of all the pointless cellular structures to masquerade as edible. I think I had some sort of steak sandwich in mind, but being unable to eat bread needed something other 'wrap'. Shit idea.
