Animals vs humans

AIBU to think if faced with choosing a pet over a human (even if a stranger), you should choose the human?

The idea was brought up in another thread and put in life or death situation. Building on fire contains your pet and a stranger. You could only save one, who would it be?

I had a dog, Ralph, I cried my heart out when he died 3 years ago. The only dog I wasn't scared of! But I can't imagine leaving a person to die instead, no matter how my heart would break.

You were not asking if the fireman would do as we asked you were asking what we would wish. That would be my wish. And the FF would have to physically subdue me to get me out. Would I really do that? How I feel right now, yes. I feel very sure. Just as you feel very sure that you would insist the FF save your child over you. Or would you? This is of course hypothetical. It is unreasonable to start a hypothetical discussion & then start saying ahh yes but if it were real! It's bloody hypothetical. On that note the hypothetical wasp over you..... I don't know this wasp, a stranger to me, but you a dog & possibly human killer..... Wasp all the way!

APartridgeAmongThePigeons · 02/11/2013 19:42

Just wondering what saying you would save the life of a dog before you saved ther life of a child makes you look like? Not to mention saying you'd save the life of a wasp before you'd save the life of a child..

It makes you look like someone who doesn't see a human life as being more important than an animal's life. And all thing being equal you would choose the one that meant most to you because it is human nature. I'd say 99% of the pro animal people on this site have said they would choose a beloved pet over a stranger and not a random wasp Hmm

But whatever you chose... it wasn't your fault something died. You didn't go and choose to kill something. That is majorly fucked up.

Ivyfairy · 02/11/2013 19:42

I know what you said, thank you, and I refer you back to what I said.

And in the absence of the luffliness and fluffiness it's probably more difficult for you to project your emotions onto them

2tiredtoScare · 02/11/2013 19:43

Surely no one would save a dog over their own DC

livingzuid · 02/11/2013 19:44

Ty princess and spider. It was terrible. She recovered but was never quite the same despite our best efforts to not project. We moved us all to NZ where she had a much better life for the end of her days. And yes I actually moved halfway round the world to give my do and family a nicer life than the one we had. Also exH was a kiwi which helped!

If I could have done serious physical violence to those people I would have.

And yes a puppy in a crate is just as vulnerable!

Are we allowed to continue on another thread this is fun :)

curlew · 02/11/2013 19:44

"Seriously, STOP the mental health slurs. Say you think it is wrong, don't question people's sanity."

Am I not allowed to question the mental health of a person who seriously says they would save a wasp before a child? Really?

PrincessFlirtyPants · 02/11/2013 19:45

"Project my emotions"

FFS, I can't even be bothered to respond that. Enjoy your evening Ivy

Spider7 · 02/11/2013 19:45

Living.... Lol. Princess.... blowing raspberry at you! Still, it is quite funny prodding zealots! They do so love to reveal the ugliness of humans & therefore highlight the gorgeousness of my boy, so all's forgiven. ;-)

PresidentServalan · 02/11/2013 19:46

Actually I WAS taking the piss - Curlew asked a question which I assumed wasn't serious, I was being sarcastic.

Spikeytree · 02/11/2013 19:46

You can do what you want, of course, I'd just hope that you wouldn't throw mental illness out as an insult.

PrincessFlirtyPants · 02/11/2013 19:47

Spider for fear that the stranger could be one the wankers posters on this thread I'm pretty happy I'd be saving my dog.

Ivyfairy · 02/11/2013 19:47

"Am I not allowed to question the mental health of a person who seriously says they would save a wasp before a child? Really?"

I think most people would think something not quite right about that.

Writerwannabe83 · 02/11/2013 19:47

curlew - I think you need to realise that many posters on here are just taking the p*ss and having a laugh Smile

If you genuinely believe that someone would choose to rescue a wasp over saving thre life of a child then maybe you need to look at your own state of mind Grin

trish5000 · 02/11/2013 19:48

I could not possibly just stand there and watch someone burn. I just couldnt. I would hope however that they learned something from it. Hate doesnt conquer anything.

Spider7 · 02/11/2013 19:48

Are you a child curlew? For indeed I would merrily sacrifice you for a wasp! Woof, woof, grrrr! Man I need a good belly rub right now!

PresidentServalan · 02/11/2013 19:49

Actually curlew I think you should stop making comments about people's mental health - and you are hardly promoting the 'pro human' cause

livingzuid · 02/11/2013 19:49

Lol at your earlier post urgent. Jimmy Savville over lassie!!

Ivyfairy · 02/11/2013 19:50

"then maybe you need to look at your own state of mind grin"

I thought mental health insults and insinuations were out of bounds. They ought to be.

littlewhitebag · 02/11/2013 19:50

I can't believe this thread has nearly reached capacity. All because me and someone else made a throwaway comment on another thread. I have loved it. Will we continue it?

PresidentServalan · 02/11/2013 19:50

spider Grin

PrincessFlirtyPants · 02/11/2013 19:51

Yes, the world needs more paedophiles less dogs on an adventure... Grin

livingzuid · 02/11/2013 19:51

I take your point Trish. We agree to differ although I can see your point. Ty for not making insults in the process :)

Curlew - I have bipolar disorder. So yes I find your comments on mental health seriously below the belt.

Spider7 · 02/11/2013 19:52

LOL Princess! They do so confirm my thoughts on this also. There do be nice people here, but I do hope they (you) would not mind me choosing my boy. I'm thinking you wouldn't. I would come back for you nice ones tho :-) cos this is hypothetical I have special mind powers that tell me who is naughty & nice..... See.... (Whispers) Im really Santa! :-D

Ivyfairy · 02/11/2013 19:52

Do the dog savers dress up their dogs in those little dress-up outfits you can buy? I'm interested and suspecting yes Grin

FortyDoorsToNowhere · 02/11/2013 19:53

Clothes on dogs is just wrong.
