Animals vs humans

AIBU to think if faced with choosing a pet over a human (even if a stranger), you should choose the human?

The idea was brought up in another thread and put in life or death situation. Building on fire contains your pet and a stranger. You could only save one, who would it be?

I had a dog, Ralph, I cried my heart out when he died 3 years ago. The only dog I wasn't scared of! But I can't imagine leaving a person to die instead, no matter how my heart would break.

"Curlew would kill the dog of anyone who rescued their dog before her family member (even if you went back in and risked your life to then get her relative). You'd come out, she'd thank you and then kill your pet."

No I didn't.

I said that if you had the choice between saving your dog and saving my child, I'd hunt down your dog and (very humanely) kill it.

I said if you chose to save your dog first and then managed to save my child, I would thank you- but despise you. I didn't say I'd kill your dog in that scenario.

Hear hear spider. My cav got attacked by some bastards training poor staffs for dogfighting on my estate. I prosecuted and got the RSPCA in and ultimately kicked off the estate by the council. Vile people abusing animals and terrifying people. They can stay in that burning building and the staffs be rescued any time. Not a stranger scenario tho but still.

PresidentServalan · 02/11/2013 19:14

living Your DH sounds awesome! Grin

livingzuid · 02/11/2013 19:15

Well said Strumpton

Spider7 · 02/11/2013 19:15

Ooh just saw your flowers before I left strumpeton! Thank you! :-D

curlew · 02/11/2013 19:16

"I don't have children so yes, I would save a dog (or any animal) over a child"

Hamster? Fruit fly? Wasp? Goldfish? Mouse?

APartridgeAmongThePigeons · 02/11/2013 19:16

I'd be interested to know how many dog savers actually have children? Or is the dog a replacement child?

What a shitty pathetic thing to say.

PresidentServalan · 02/11/2013 19:17

And living Sad about your cat. Those people deserve to have the same thing happen to them.

Ivyfairy · 02/11/2013 19:17

I'd like to bet that the dog savers, in position of needing to be rescued, would be shrieking and pleading with us to save them instead of our pets Grin

Fortunately for them, we probably would.

PrincessFlirtyPants · 02/11/2013 19:17

Curlew wasn't the only one Spider

PresidentServalan · 02/11/2013 19:17

Curlew yes actually - any of them.

APartridgeAmongThePigeons · 02/11/2013 19:18

Curlew, put it this way, you spend enough time on FWR. Some people see speciesism as no different to sexism or racism.

And saying you wold kill someone's innocent pet makes you look like a dick.

UrgentNews · 02/11/2013 19:18

trish5000 Why is human life more precious? I think we can all say that some animals are more 'human' than other actual humans. And would you rescue someone if they were in the house to deliberately hurt you? How about if they were there to hurt your DCs? I think we both know that there are some people you wouldn't save.

PresidentServalan · 02/11/2013 19:18

In my previous post I said I would rather someone saved my cats before me.

Ivyfairy · 02/11/2013 19:20

Who was that to, President?

It would be my cat/dog with you in the building, not yours.

livingzuid · 02/11/2013 19:20

Hahaha Several - what I posted was actually quite mild compared to what he really said but we are trying to keep the thread nice :) he did say he couldn't give a shit about strangers if the choice was saving something he loved vs something he had no relationship with if he's going to risk his own hide going into a burning house. He's only going to risk going inside the house if there's something he's attached to inside. Such as dog or play station... And a child had better run damn fast behind him out the house whilst he's got the dog in his hands :)

APartridgeAmongThePigeons · 02/11/2013 19:21

No I didn't. I said that if you had the choice between saving your dog and saving my child, I'd hunt down your dog and (very humanely) kill it.I said if you chose to save your dog first and then managed to save my child, I would thank you- but despise you. Honestly take a deep breath and read this back to yourself.

You are making violent threats to a hypothetical dog who was saved before your child in a hypothetical fire.

FortyDoorsToNowhere · 02/11/2013 19:22

I would save the human.

fifi669 · 02/11/2013 19:25

If someone saved a random animal they had no connection too instead of my child I wouldn't be responsible for my actions.

OP posts:
livingzuid · 02/11/2013 19:25

Dammed autocorrect - Servalan doh! It was a dog sorry cavalier king Charles spaniel. She wouldn't have hurt a fly and converted dog haters to dog lovers! Although I have my doubts about some on this thread.

PresidentServalan · 02/11/2013 19:26

Ivy Sorry, misread your PP - still stands though, save the animal before me every time!

curlew · 02/11/2013 19:26

"And saying you wold kill someone's innocent pet makes you look like a dick."

Just wondering what saying you would save the life of a dog before you saved ther life of a child makes you look like? Not to mention saying you'd save the life of a wasp before you'd save the life of a child........

livingzuid · 02/11/2013 19:27

Ivy that's also been answered. I'd want people to save my dog over me.

PrincessFlirtyPants · 02/11/2013 19:28

livingzuid I'm so sorry, what a horrible thing to happen. What utter cunts those people were.

Sad Angry

livingzuid · 02/11/2013 19:30

Curlew do you have a sense of humour or perspective? This is a hypothetical question on an internet forum. Yet you are being quite violent all things considered. And how did a wasp come into it!
