Animals vs humans

AIBU to think if faced with choosing a pet over a human (even if a stranger), you should choose the human?

The idea was brought up in another thread and put in life or death situation. Building on fire contains your pet and a stranger. You could only save one, who would it be?

I had a dog, Ralph, I cried my heart out when he died 3 years ago. The only dog I wasn't scared of! But I can't imagine leaving a person to die instead, no matter how my heart would break.

They wont let you take your dog to prison with you outraged Grin

Spider7 · 02/11/2013 18:57

I'm with you outraged..... Stranger under a bus every time. Why are we pushing people under buses to save dogs tho? This is all going a bit fast!

OutragedFromLeeds · 02/11/2013 18:58

To the stranger savers would it be worse if I didn't save the stranger or the dog? If I came to a burning house and just called the fire brigade?

Is that better than saving the dog over the human?

OutragedFromLeeds · 02/11/2013 19:00

I imagine we'd be forced to go on the run 2tired. The dogs already wearing an afro wig and a pair of sunglasses just in case Curlew comes round.

2tiredtoScare · 02/11/2013 19:01

I the stranger gets pushed to knock the dog out of the buses path?! I could be wrong though

Spider7 · 02/11/2013 19:01

Good point outraged. Indeed the fireman often quoted on here as advising people not to run into burning building to save dog would also advise the same re human. 2 tired... if need be I would risk my life for my dog. I've ensured adoptive parents are lined up. He's so cute there are more than a few willing!

2tiredtoScare · 02/11/2013 19:01

I havent RTFT whats Curlew been saying now!

PrincessFlirtyPants · 02/11/2013 19:01

Outraged Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

PrincessFlirtyPants · 02/11/2013 19:03

2tired - curlew said that if anyone saved their dog over her child she would hunt down the dog and kill it.

Spider7 · 02/11/2013 19:04

Oh ok, in that case defo. Just that same if it was a human I loved needed saving at the expense of a stranger. Lol at Afro wig dog!

OutragedFromLeeds · 02/11/2013 19:04

Curlew would kill the dog of anyone who rescued their dog before her family member (even if you went back in and risked your life to then get her relative). You'd come out, she'd thank you and then kill your pet.

2tiredtoScare · 02/11/2013 19:05

Grin that sounds about right

fifi669 · 02/11/2013 19:06

While I don't agree with the dog savers, I can understand your rationale when you say you'd save your pet due to the emotional connection. However a couple of people have said they'd save any random animal over a stranger. I don't get that at all.

This thread was pissing me off for a while, but this bit is hilarious! Grin

Ivyfairy · 02/11/2013 19:07

"To the stranger savers would it be worse if I didn't save the stranger or the dog? If I came to a burning house and just called the fire brigade?

Is that better than saving the dog over the human?"

Yes, but only if you did it because you were unsure about your own personal safety. The OP here states that you have time to save one, and safely I think; if you knew that and saved neither I would be Confused

candycoatedwaterdrops · 02/11/2013 19:07

This has been better than Strictly but I'm afraid I'm off out now. Night all. Remember to blow out any candles before you go to bed!

2tiredtoScare · 02/11/2013 19:08

Again apologies for not RTFT but dog lovers what if you had a dog you adored plus DCs would you save your kids from a house fire over the dog?

Spider7 · 02/11/2013 19:09

Really re Curlew? Curlew, I have said this in RL many times as I live in an area where dogs are stolen for dogfighting...... anyone harms my dog I will hunt them down & inflict the same pain & whatever else happens to my dog on them. Fact. Serious. And I'm capable. I really would. I know others who would too. We've agreed to help each other should our loved ones be taken. I'm not saying the stranger savers are wrong to save strangers even over their pets, I'm not saying I'd kill anyone for choosing to save a stranger over my dog. I am saying that if someone seeks out & hurts my boy, there will quite literally be hell to pay.

livingzuid · 02/11/2013 19:09

Oh god. Laughing so hard!

Have read some of these to DH. He wants to know if some people have had a sense of humour failure. And he says he'd push a stranger under a bus any day to save the hound. Outraged you are not on your own!

SharpLily · 02/11/2013 19:10

Meh. I blow out candles and am very safety aware. Can't see any fires happening chez moi, I'm pretty much at the end of my tolerance for hypotheticals plus I really, really need to make the bed instead of sit here snorting at this thread, so I'm bowing out of that one, 2tired.

Strumpetron · 02/11/2013 19:11

Spider Thanks lovely too see such love and protection for out furry friends.

trish5000 · 02/11/2013 19:11

livingzuid. You are more important than your pet. So is everyone here, more important than their pets. Human life is precious.

And would I rescue anyone, no matter what they had done. Yes. It is not my job to judge them.

PresidentServalan · 02/11/2013 19:13

I don't have children so yes, I would save a dog (or any animal) over a child. If that makes me an arsehole, then so be it. And I have also lost people who were close to me. The people who are really 'shocked' by the dog savers on this thread really do need to get a grip.

Spider7 · 02/11/2013 19:13

This has now lost any semblance of rational discussion & any hints of what could have been fun.... Candycoated etc. I really had not seen that post of Curlews. Bye now. Thanks for the lighthearted posts. They were fun. Time to leave the zealots to it.

Strumpetron · 02/11/2013 19:14

Human life isn't precious as a whole. It's precious when considering your loved ones. In the grand scheme of things we're very insignificant and basically parisites.
