Animals vs humans

AIBU to think if faced with choosing a pet over a human (even if a stranger), you should choose the human?

The idea was brought up in another thread and put in life or death situation. Building on fire contains your pet and a stranger. You could only save one, who would it be?

I had a dog, Ralph, I cried my heart out when he died 3 years ago. The only dog I wasn't scared of! But I can't imagine leaving a person to die instead, no matter how my heart would break.

Candy! Genius. Grin

2tiredtoScare · 02/11/2013 18:40

I genuinely thought you were talking about a real boy their Spider I thought oh thats odd behaviour for a child Grin think I need to read things properly!

candycoatedwaterdrops · 02/11/2013 18:42

Oh littlewhite, I wish! The only thing I am really a genius at is procrastinating my university work. I blame MN and hypothetical burning building situations.

Ivyfairy · 02/11/2013 18:43

So your dog boy would rescue the boy from attackers, but you'd leave him screaming in a burning building, Spider Wink Hmm

OutragedFromLeeds · 02/11/2013 18:44

I can't be bothered to go back, but what was the general consensus on the bus issue? Was I the only stranger killer?

2tiredtoScare · 02/11/2013 18:44

spiders dog is a humanist!

Spider7 · 02/11/2013 18:44

Lol, just read candycoated, littlewhitebag' 2tired & princess! That's really made me laugh & helping the shock to lesson that bit more! Ha ha.....

SharpLily · 02/11/2013 18:45

I live in the middle of nowhere. We don't see many buses.

Ivyfairy · 02/11/2013 18:45

"I cannot say firmly enough, I will choose my dog! And yes, I did take the time to ask these people their thoughts re this..... they said they'd choose my dog!"

They'd choose the dog over their son or over a stranger? How nice of them, either way.

Writerwannabe83 · 02/11/2013 18:46

outraged - yes, I think you were the only person to admit to being willing to push a stranger in front of a moving bus in order to rescue your pet, haha Grin

OutragedFromLeeds · 02/11/2013 18:47

but if you did Sharp? You're on holiday somewhere with many buses, one with a bomb on being driven by Sandra Bullock...

OutragedFromLeeds · 02/11/2013 18:48

Dammit Grin

candycoatedwaterdrops · 02/11/2013 18:48

Why would my dog be on a bus without me?!

Spider7 · 02/11/2013 18:49

Lol 2tired... Yes, sorry I used to think people were nuts for talking like that about their dogs before I got him! Yes, I would still choose my dog over a stranger....... it's been explained very clearly by others why. He is my family. To him I have a bond. He has a bond to me. If I see a human or animal in trouble I would try to help them. As I did tonight. But not at the expense of someone I love.

Writerwannabe83 · 02/11/2013 18:49

candy - He's running away from the irate relative of the person you didn't save in a recent fire....

Spikeytree · 02/11/2013 18:50

I've lost many family members, including my father who I performed CPR on as he died. I carry that guilt already, but that has nothing to do with saving the light of my life over a random stranger.

There are plenty of insults I could throw out right now, but I won't because I'm capable of respecting other opinions, and I don't ever think it is acceptable to use mental health slurs to attack people, no matter how much I disagree with them. Then again, I'm a despicable person according to some on this thread, so I'm sure those threatening other people know better than me.

OutragedFromLeeds · 02/11/2013 18:50

Your dog isn't on the bus Candy its about to be run over by the bus

candycoatedwaterdrops · 02/11/2013 18:50

Grin at Writer

candycoatedwaterdrops · 02/11/2013 18:51

Well, he's a twat if he'd about to be run over by a bus. I've taught him time and time again to sit on the pavement and wait for the command. Grin

Spider7 · 02/11/2013 18:52

Ivy fairy I think you are being deliberately obtuse...... My dog over a stranger. Their son is not a stranger to them. They know their son is a stranger to me. I asked would you save your dog over a stranger. They said they did not have a dog but they would save my dog over a stranger. Der!

Greydog · 02/11/2013 18:52

Can I ask why your child - that I don't know and have never met - is in the burning building with me? As for all those that are terrified and appalled by this thread - what a sheltered life you lead.

SharpLily · 02/11/2013 18:52

Oh dear, I can't remember the exact terms of the bus hypothetical - there have been so many today, dontcha know!
However, I think it's fairly safe to say that I'd save my dog. He's just really big and I think he'd leave a bigger, stickier mess on the front of the bus than a nice, clean human. Someone has to clean that shit off, you know.

2tiredtoScare · 02/11/2013 18:52

Surely a truly loyal owner would jump in front of the bus to save their dog rather that push a stranger under it! Grin

OutragedFromLeeds · 02/11/2013 18:54

That would be a stupid owner 2tired Wink

Writerwannabe83 · 02/11/2013 18:55

Grin @ 2tired

I agree - but that debate wouldn't be as interesting Grin
