to keep the expensive stuff for me and let the kids use the normal stuff?

There are few things in life that are reserved for me alone.

However, I buy the DDs the normal bog standard chocolate spread for their weekend breakfast pancake treat and keep the lovely Cadbury stuff for me alone, on a high shelf.

when dc were little it was easier-we all had the same they just got kiddie portions. Now though it annoys the fuck out of us that they go through everything like a plague of locusts, very selective locusts who start with the good stuff and leave bog standard for later. Angry

I don't do this with anything. Well, with crisps there are adult crisps and child crisis. The adult ones are Tesco value and the child ones are quavers, so I'm sure that doesn't count.

Child CRISPS not crisis.

If your kids are happy with what they have then why not? Smile

dd prefers value chocolate spread, and I love nutella, unfortunately the other dd has
dcs get lettuce and value ham,
I get watercress or special salad but no ham, don't like it.
I unfortunately gave one dd my special salad by mistake and she liked it a lot.
she is getting the same taste buds as me.
and the oldest two like mayonnaise, and it has to be hellmans

I buy lovely shampoo and conditioner for myself and provide the kids with alberto balsam 4 for the price of 3 stuff Grin I have no intention of letting two lads with short hair anywhere near my posh shampoo and conditioner.

OK, for example, I have posh designer glasses because I'm vain and I'm not going to break them probably

DC have perfectly nice, non-designer glasses that they chose themselves, but that we're significantly cheaper than mine. They will almost certainly break/grow out of them.

Am I depriving them? Adults get posher stuff than children on the whole, I thought that was part of the deal.

My children have a healthy diet with the odd treat. But I'll be buggered if they're getting the posh cheese. Both broccoli and pomegranate are considered superfoods. I know which one I'll be giving to the kids.

YANBU. It's chocolate spread FFS. It is not like OP is eating steak while giving her DCs gruel.

oh yes, me too, eggy. I have really nice but horribly expensive specs. My kids have £20 on top of the nhs voucher that all kids get. Which is good, cos they've both broken them umpteen times and my eldest lost his once.

It is bloody chocolate spread It is ok to treat yourself now and again jeez some of the responses are like you keep them underthe stairs and throw them a crust now and then I hide my bournville chocolateit is the only chocolate I really like and they would eat it and leave me none,

Banana and chocolate spread sandwiches sound scrummy! No Nutella in this house as I have a nut allergy!

I know it's lighthearted, but I'd struggle with hiding anything from my children. Ishoos from a deprived childhood and all that. My mother locked the fridge and hid food from us, we could hear them ripping open packets while we were in bed Hmm

If I manage to buy myself something nice I make a point of sharing. It feels very wrong not to. Giving them a cheaper chocolate spread would give me the major guilts.

I was a bit hungover tired on Saturday and needed super noodles for lunch. I refused to share with the DC as they had already had their boringly healthy lunch. Did I feel guilty? Did I heck as like. They were mine.

it isn't hiding though Kirjava it is having your own treat the children have the things they like the op is having hers and as are other people on the thread I honestly dont think any of the posters children are deprived, that must have been horrible though kirjava your parents being so greedy and selfish , but it is ok to treat yourself now and again to the food you like and not give it to Dc they have their own food ,

I hide Marmite when I have it.

I am in Australia, so on the odd occasion that I kid myself that it is a bargain can justify $7 (for the smallest jar) I hide it. DH & the kids get Vegemite (hate it) or the Oz equiv of Marmite (vile) & I have the good stuff.

If they had the Marmite we would be out of it in two/three days & it can last me ages.

I don't see it as depriving them if they are happy to eat the lesser alternative brand.

YABU

I wouldn't deliberately buy my child something cheap whilst I got stuck into something more expensive.

Mean spirited.

Nutella isn't cheap it is just different to the spread the op likes

I forget sometimes that we all have to become martyrs when we have children and eat only value food and leftovers whilst the dcs eat steak and ice cream and fruit Confused

I have my own, more expensive treats that i eat occasionally. The teenage dcs who would eat everthing in site have cheaper treats because they eat a lot more of them.

I also have my own cereal because I do not like the stuff that they like.

What a horrible person I am Confused
