To not want DH to cook stock this early?

ICameOnTheJitney · 12/10/2013 09:17

He started chopping onions at 8.30am ffs. I don't WANT to smell onions and shit that early.

AIBU?

He said he was making stock but he's added all kinds of spices and it smells like a curry or something and personally I don't LIKE that this early. I also have a few people calling round this morning for various things and the house smells now!

I had worked hard to make it smell nice...and now it fucking REEKS of curry! Morning smells should be coffee and bread....gentle things...not cumin and frigging whatever seeds he's currently crushing!

I think you're being a bit unreasonable. Did you specify at what time stock-making was acceptable?

comingalongnicely · 12/10/2013 09:18

YABU & Moany too!

ICameOnTheJitney · 12/10/2013 09:19

Ok...I'll take it.....AIBU. Melanie I never specified but to me, this kind of cooking is fine after lunch. or no earlier than 11.00am

I disagree, I love the smell of cooking early in the morning. Like a promise of what's to come.

Wish my DP knew how to make stock Envy

ICameOnTheJitney · 12/10/2013 09:21

Kirjava he's always frigging making something or other....I'm very bad at cooking and don't really care about food. I find it annoying to be honest...can't get into passion about eating.

You sound a bit mean! Just because u don't care about food/cooking doesn't mean others shouldn't!! Perhaps 0830 is the only time he could do it!

AnotherWorld · 12/10/2013 09:25

YANBU. Sorry but 8.30 is too early for that sort of cooking. Pancakes in bed is acceptable but frying spices? No!

GrandstandingBlueTit · 12/10/2013 09:25

I love the small of stock brewing.

You have a DH who knows his way around the kitchen and you're complaining about it?! YABU.

TEErickOrTEEreat · 12/10/2013 09:27

Don't come to my house. I've had food in the slow cooker since 730 and it smells divine already.

Dolallytats · 12/10/2013 09:28

I don't think YBU at all!! My neighbour downstairs cooks really smelly things early in the morning and it makes me gag!! She uses A LOT of garlic and it stinks. She has also been known to cook fish at 6.30am.......'scuse me, need to go and throw up at the thought of it!!Envy

CMP69 · 12/10/2013 09:29

If you don't like cooking just be bloody grateful Angry

Chopsypie · 12/10/2013 09:29

YANBU. The smell of proper food first thing makes me boaky. DH often puts the slow cooker on first thing and I can't go into the kitchen.

Bejeena · 12/10/2013 09:31

Men who cook should be encouraged in my opinion

GuybrushThreepwoodMP · 12/10/2013 09:33

LTB.
Although you should have been specific about the stock cut off on the first date so he could make an informed decision.

kinkyfuckery · 12/10/2013 09:35

Why did you have to "work hard" to make it smell nice in the first place?

ICameOnTheJitney · 12/10/2013 09:36

Ooh it's split! It seems some people are more sensitive....

OP posts:
ICameOnTheJitney · 12/10/2013 09:37

Kinky well because it was a mess yesterday...2 of us working doesn't leave time for much hourswork....I washed the curtains and the sofa covers, got some Yankee candles...it smelled beautiful through the whole house and now it smells of curry!

OP posts:
ICameOnTheJitney · 12/10/2013 09:39

He says it's the sign of a good home....the smell of cooking. He's making bread next which will help the stench...but it's going to be an hour at least before that's smelling of anything.

for those who went on my "Toasts" thread you might notice that food is an issue in our home.

My husband would get a very happy ending if he made stock and baked bread on a Saturday morning.

GrandstandingBlueTit · 12/10/2013 09:48

He's doing it all wrong if it smells of curry.

You're still being U, mind.

comewinewithmoi · 12/10/2013 09:49

He sounds ace..you on the other hand..

KirjavaTheCorpse · 12/10/2013 09:50

Shock is he the Elaborate Toasts DH?

Oh dear. OP yanbu.

TheCrumpetQueen · 12/10/2013 09:52

Wanna swap? I've got a grumpy arse here who wants to just go to the gym and soak in the bath all day, no interest in cooking or doing anything for anyone else Envy

PuntCuffin · 12/10/2013 09:52

You bought Yankee Candles. YABU.

CoffeeTea103 · 12/10/2013 09:55
