To not want DH to cook stock this early?

He started chopping onions at 8.30am ffs. I don't WANT to smell onions and shit that early.

AIBU?

He said he was making stock but he's added all kinds of spices and it smells like a curry or something and personally I don't LIKE that this early. I also have a few people calling round this morning for various things and the house smells now!

I had worked hard to make it smell nice...and now it fucking REEKS of curry! Morning smells should be coffee and bread....gentle things...not cumin and frigging whatever seeds he's currently crushing!

Lol! I love MN for a varied response. Kirjava yes he is the DH of the elaborate toasts.

YABU. He is cooking and making bread on a Saturday morning. Presumably you will eat some of what he has made. Stop moaning!

Jinsei · 12/10/2013 09:58

What are elaborate toasts? Confused Link?

TrinityRhino · 12/10/2013 09:59

you really are a grumpy arse

its not his fault that you don't care about food

ICameOnTheJitney · 12/10/2013 10:03

Jins I won't eat it you know. I don't like the kind of thing he's making.

I have fried chicken this morning before putting it in the slow cooker and made bread so I would have to say you AIBU Blush

krazipan · 12/10/2013 10:05

Rather YABU! It's obviously too early for me to type though!

Dawndonnaagain · 12/10/2013 10:09

I think you are being unreasonable. However, I'm biased and get quite arsy when people moan about things being done by others. My dh would love to do those things. He used to hoover, he used help prepare food, used to make chocolate cakes, etc. He can't even wash and dress himself now.

"and don't really care about food. I find it annoying to be honest...can't get into passion about eating."

How boring! You eat to live, I live to eat. I am passionate about good food.
I'm not surprised he concocts delicious meals if he lives with someone who isn't interested in food.

If OH was as uninterested in food as you I would probably go OTT about making nice food for myself as well. I can't think of anything more depressing than sitting down to eat a meal with someone who doesn't appreciate my efforts. LTB and send him to me Grin

Oh, and YABVVVU

moogy1a · 12/10/2013 10:29

I'd much rather the smell of yummy food than the stench from Yankee candles and the chemical shite they burn off.
yabu

ICameOnTheJitney · 12/10/2013 10:34

Bun it's not boring...it's just not the same as you. I might find your lack of interest in MY passions boring but I wouldn't say so...it's personal.

Open the windows. Sorted.

Tuonz · 12/10/2013 10:40

I'm not big on cooking. Dh does the complex stuff too. Slow cooker is on the go with soup. Best to put up and shut up if someone else is cooking. Dh makes thing he think we'll like though.

Bunbaker · 12/10/2013 10:55

I think the difference is that everyone has to eat to survive, so why not make the experience enjoyable? Surely there must be some foods you really enjoy the taste of?

Do you never feel hungry? Do you never think "I really fancy eating some...?"

ICameOnTheJitney · 12/10/2013 11:02

Bun you can't "make" something enjoyable...if you're a bit meh about it. To me, food is just something to eat....it's not an "experience". I eat something...I may like it or not but I'm not going to pursue it like DH and others do....I don't think about it. If I'm hungry I think "Oh I'm hungry what do I fancy?" and it's usually something quite simple...I don't consider how to improve it or how to make it extra nice.

Elaborate toast guy!! Op I sympathise. My dh is one of those kind of men.

He bakes bread, makes home made pizza, curries, stews, soups.... BUT even when he,makes lunches its an epic project. I slap the sandwiches together in 2 mins, he has all the ingredients lined up, measured out, sitting in bowls Hmm

yanbu - its too early for cooking smells!! Apart from bacon or coffee!!

sashh · 12/10/2013 11:18

OP

Hire him out

You get no smells, other people get fab food and you both get some extra money

DoJo · 12/10/2013 11:22

HIBU - who wants onions and shit stock anyway? Grin

GreyWhites · 12/10/2013 12:49

Suck it up, moaning minnie.

AmberLeaf · 12/10/2013 12:53

YABU

worsestershiresauce · 12/10/2013 13:04

This post made me smile as can you imagine the response if a bloke came on here and had a whine about his wife ruining the ambiance of the house with cooking smells. I suspect he would get both barrels Grin

I take it the OP is tongue in cheek. I hope so....

Bunbaker · 12/10/2013 13:37

So you never bother eating out for birthdays etc, or bother with a nice Christmas dinner or make/eat any kind of celebration meal? Ever? Shock

Mintyy · 12/10/2013 13:41

Yanbu, I understand completely what you are saying. Its why we could never have a slow cooker, I just cannot be dealing with raw meat and vegetables before noon at the earliest.

Lj8893 · 12/10/2013 13:47

I have an indian restaurant next door to me, and an Italian restaurant behind me, and a pub kitchen below me.

Can you imagine how constantly hungry I am with all those gorgeous smells?!
