to return dog shit to the dogs owner

Our neighbours opposite are very nice, always pass the time of day etc.When they take their dog for a walk they dont put it on a lead (another subject) as a result the dog sometimes runs on to our drive/front garden.On a couple of occasions the dog has had a shit on our drive.The owner (to be fair) hadnt realized, so i just cleaned it up and didnt say anything.

The dog had got out the other day,our neighbour didnt know, so i took the dog back to them and politley said that he was in our garden again. Our neighbour apologized and thanked me for returning his dog.

My nephew came to stay with us yesterday and went and stepped in some dog shit that was on our drive.This was the final straw, would it ub to put their dogs shit on their drive? (I know its prob childish, but have had enough!)

If they didn't know the dog had shit,they didn't know to clean it up.

This is why dog owners should be putting their dogs on leads on roadways and near private land.

No excuse to say they didn't see the dog do it IMO. You don't wander off down the road blithely letting your dog crap where it likes and then say 'oh, i didn't see it!'

I think you need to let them know next time OP. It doesn't have to be agressively done. Just ' sorry, but Fido pood on our drive this morning - it's not actually the first time. Would you mind picking it up?'

It would be far more effective to just go over and let them know, then they can come over and clean it up. Don't do the work for them. Going over with a tub of dog shit is just childish imo.

I would invest in a gate. I don't think any one should let a dog run loose - what are your neighbours thinking? Aren't they worried he could get run over? Is your nephew little? I would tell the neighbours about your concerns (and what happened)...and tell them that he needs to be on a lead when he's walked, at least in your neighbourhood. At the park they can do what they like...let him run free (as long as he's not a danger to children or other dogs) and they can keep an eye out for him doing his business. YANBU...it's not your dog, why should you clean after it?!

Agree they should not have their dog off lead if there's even a chance it's going to do this.

As a dog owner I would be mortified if my dog pooed on someone's garden. Sadly a lot of people do not share this view.

dog shit and owners not picking it up is really getting on my wick atm. the last few weekends we have gone for walks in the wood(national trust ones) and every few yards there was a disgusting mouldy dog turd a few inches off the edge of the path.
we spent the whole of every walk shouting for the kids to stay on the path and watch out for poo.

3yo dd still stood in one and tried to pick it off with her hands before I could screech at her to leave it. yuk

owners shouldn't be letting their dogs run off lead out of sight, letting them shit all over the place and then pretend not to know and pick it up.

so sick of shit but feel a bit better for a nice rant

Someone near us the other day had a nice little sign beside a pile of poo on their driveway. It said 'Would the owner of the dog that left this please collect it'.

It looked more like cat poo to me though.

I think you need to just ask them to keep their dog on a lead near your property as its pooped there a few times and say there is one ready to be cleaned up when they are ready! Best just to be upfront about it.

Don't dogs have a poo timetable like humans? I can predict when my DS, DD and DH will poo. I'm always right. I bet the dog owners know when to let it off the lead so they don't have to deal with it.

Bamboo, if you are waking in National Trust woods it's more likely to be fox or deer poo tbh. Dogs are supposed to be on leads in most NT areas.

We have horse owners round here who ride through the village with a couple of dogs running alongside and it makes me to see them merrily trotting along with their noses in the air while their mutts shite where they please.

Grrrrr.

Deer poo looks more like sheep poo than dog poo.
Fox poo looks more like cat poo - you can usually see the hair from the small beasties they eat.

Dog poo is quite distinctive.

The really evil cunts are the dog owners that bag up the poo and leave that by the path. Why would they do that? Can any MN dog lovers explain the logic?
