To think pampers nappies are really not the best out there (or rubbish?)

My LO has been in pampers since birth but always leaks poos out onto vest and baby grow. I thought the problem was her explosive poos. But one day DH bought waitrose nappies and she didn't leak at all!

Pampers are currently half price in tesco and I'm wondering whether I should stock up on them or instead go for a cheaper alternative like waitrose or aldi (I haven't tried aldi nappies but I'm tempted). What do you think?

Definitely shop around I think. We used to use Huggies until they somehow changed the design (and advertised they had done so), oh this was before they stopped selling them in the UK too. My DD exploded out of the new design of nappies nearly every time she pooed, so we changed to Pampers.

I've also just discovered Waitrose own brand nappies, and so far they are great, so will be sticking with them from now on.

I use Lidl and Aldi, Lidl more often as they're nearer to me. Not had a problem with wees, they seem more absorbent than pampers as pampers would sometimes leak overnight and Lidl never have, but they couldn't contain DD's poos either.

We switched to cloth and since then had very very few explosions. Now she's on solids we don't have the same problem though.

Yonididnaedaethat · 01/10/2013 21:50

I've found Aldi or Lidl nappies the best.

enormouse · 01/10/2013 21:51

I tested nappies for mum and baby magazine last year and found just4bums and Asdas little angels to be the best. I now buy little angels instead of pampers. If the quality of the waitrose/aldi ones are better (unfortunately I haven't tried those) and they're cheaper it seems like a no brainer. Smile

MrsManshape · 01/10/2013 21:53

Change to cloth. DD2 is nearly 20 months and i've never had a leak.

Much friendlier on the purse and the environment too.

ISolemnlySwearThatIAmUptoNoGoo · 01/10/2013 21:53

Lidl or Aldi are the best I also like Asda have not had any leaks with these.

moustachio · 01/10/2013 21:53

Asda Little Angels are unbeatable imo. I've used them on DS since birth and not had one leak! They are far far cheaper than Pampers/huggies, even when there are offers on the branded ones.

Funghoul · 01/10/2013 21:53

I don't like pampers much. Bought a box when they were on offer but much prefer aldi. They seem to fit better, and the tabs have never ripped off like a couple of the pampers have. Won't be buying pampers again, they're overpriced. I can get twice as many for the price in aldi. Does anyone else notice that pampers seem to smell more when they're wet?

Famzilla · 01/10/2013 21:53

I think it all depends on the body shape of your baby. Pampers are the best for DD, everything else has leaked or given her happy rash.

Btw the tesco BOGOF deal and 3 for 2 are working together. Yesterday I bought 6 large packs of pampers for £19.98 with click & collect!

Fairylea · 01/10/2013 21:54

Tried everything including all kinds of cloth and aldi suit us best, and so cheap too!

Famzilla · 01/10/2013 21:54

Haha, happy rash. I wish!

whatshallwedo · 01/10/2013 21:54

Lidl are my nappy of choice.

Lariflete · 01/10/2013 21:54

Pampers are dreadful for leaking. Sainsbury's Little Ones or Aldi Mamia have been fantastic. I have only ever had to soak DS's clothes because of 'explosions' when he's worn Pampers.

Lariflete · 01/10/2013 21:55
  • DS's AND DD's that should read
MurderOfBanshees · 01/10/2013 21:56

Pampers are a nightmare, we mostly stick to Tescos or Cheeky Bots, glad to hear the Aldi ones are good though, as we've got an Aldi opening up here soon.

pianodoodle · 01/10/2013 21:57

I used to use the Lidl ones at night but for DD Pampers Active fits are the only ones that don't explode during the day :)

iwantanafternoonnap · 01/10/2013 21:58

I used reusable until DS grew out of the second size and then I tried various ones. Pampers and huggies utter rubbish but lidls were brilliant and cheap.

There baby wipes are brilliant as well

KateSpade · 01/10/2013 21:59

I like Pampers, hated Huggies and Lidl/Aldi ones. Thought they were awful.

Very please with Sainsburys/Asda ones aswell.

pianodoodle · 01/10/2013 21:59

Huggies are by far the worst we've tried.

Smartiepants79 · 01/10/2013 22:00

Have only ever used pampers really and had no issues with them at all.
Tried Little Angels for a while and they gave my DD horrible nappy rash.

lottieandmia · 01/10/2013 22:02

Pampers were the best years ago when my older dds (now 9 & 11) were babies. Then they removed the back of the nappy and they are now not fit for purpose. I agree that Little Angels Asda ones are the best.

Bloob · 01/10/2013 22:03

Famzilla it's not working for me! Was just about to order more and got all excited! What am I doing wrong?

IamSlave · 01/10/2013 22:04

Aldi are fantastic I recommend them 100%. Used brands for first I cant notice difference, and they are soooo cheap.

At least try them.

WahIzzit · 01/10/2013 22:04

I found pampers leaky occasionally but only when dc was needing to go a size up. I now use Asdas Little Angels because of the price and also they are pretty good. Tried Huggies they were crap though my 3 year old is in the Huggies Pull ups at night which are ok.
Morrisons own are the worst brand I've tried. Tesco's own are ok, similar to Little Angels.

lyndie · 01/10/2013 22:05

Waitrose have just brought out Essential nappies and they are excellent and not expensive!
