To think pampers nappies are really not the best out there (or rubbish?)

My LO has been in pampers since birth but always leaks poos out onto vest and baby grow. I thought the problem was her explosive poos. But one day DH bought waitrose nappies and she didn't leak at all!

Pampers are currently half price in tesco and I'm wondering whether I should stock up on them or instead go for a cheaper alternative like waitrose or aldi (I haven't tried aldi nappies but I'm tempted). What do you think?

Tesco, asda and morrisons nappies are all far, far better than pampers.
I can't understand why so many people buy them.

sleepyhead · 01/10/2013 22:10

I use whatever supermarket's own brand nappies I happen to be shopping in when I need to buy some. (usually Tesco). They're all fine.

pigletmania · 01/10/2013 22:19

Pampers are rubbish, leak overnight, jst blooming leak in general.

TwelveLeggedWalk · 01/10/2013 22:24

See I often find myself thinking that Pampers are bloody amazing. We use the Dry Night ones at night, and the Acti-Fit ones in the day, and they stand up to just about anything. We've used Huggies and own brands, and they just don't seem to fit my two.
Bloody hate Huggies wipes as well, it takes me about 10 attempts to get any out of the pack. Waitrose wipes are my fave for their clicky top and lack of chemically smell.

FreeWee · 01/10/2013 22:33

Aldi changed my life! My sisters told me Pampers, Pampers, Pampers. But they leaked poos every day. Aldi have leaked far far less and actually can only remember 1 wee leak ever.

WillYouDoTheMonsterMash · 01/10/2013 22:35

I think it depends on the shape of the baby. My baby has chunky legs and a tiny waist. Asda are great in the day but at night Pampers baby dry are the only ones that can hold his enormous wees.

I found aldi nappies utterly useless for him and the wee would just run straight out of the leg holes without absorbing at all.

Rotterwallah · 01/10/2013 22:44

I'm in my fourth yeAr of buying nappies and I've always just bought whatever is on offer or cheapest. Until I noticed pampers active for make my dd smell like a Brighton seafront urinal

And they get all heavy and droopy

I shall never buy them again

TokenGirl1 · 01/10/2013 22:45

Second the Lidl baby wipes, they're bigger than all other wipes I've used so no accidental poo on hands!

Asda and Lidl nappies are fab, this from a former Pampers buyer.

Famzilla · 01/10/2013 22:51

Umm I don't know, it worked for me yesterday! Literally just clicked "add to basket" x 6 and it did all the deductions for me. Even sent a picture of the checkout screen to DH as I was so chuffed

MintyChops · 01/10/2013 22:57

Lidl or Aldi by far the best. Lidl nappy bags great but Aldi wipes better as have the clicky thing.

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 01/10/2013 23:03

I find sainsburys little ones great. They don'tt leave dd looking red and sore and pampers aren't so great as to Warrent three pounds more. The fit is better but not enough to justify the extra cost.

KenAdams · 01/10/2013 23:13

I've tried all the disposables bad Pampers are the only ones that worked for us.

KenAdams · 01/10/2013 23:13

And not bad. DYAC.

ChrisTheSheep · 01/10/2013 23:18

We use the Aldi ones - they're brilliant. Haven't tried the Lidl ones, but I reckon Aldi beat Tesco and Morrisons.

After 2 kids with pampers without any issues we then had ds and constant leaks. We changed to Lidl on multiple recommendations and never had the problem again.

cartoad · 01/10/2013 23:28

I think it depends to some extent on the shape of your child - pampers were rubbish for ds1 and for the most part we used huggies but they were rubbish for ds2 and pampers fitted him much better...

hoppingmad · 01/10/2013 23:36

I don't know, I have dt's - one chunky & one skinny. Pampers don't suit either of them. We switched to cloth & never looked back. No nappy rash, no leaks. The latter particularly surprised as dts is a super heavy wetter but can go all night in cloth with no problems

FortyDoorsToNowhere · 01/10/2013 23:38

I found that different nappies suit different babies.

Not changed a nappy now in around 20 months so don't know the latest upgrades in nappies, but dd was fine in pampers. Huggies gave her terrible nappy rash and aldi nappies used to explode.
My niece could only wear Huggies.

HoppinMad · 01/10/2013 23:44

Hoppingmad dtwins must run in the family Grin howdy!

hoppingmad · 01/10/2013 23:52

I don't think mine are genetic Hoppin, given the frequency with which total strangers say
"Oh they're lovely. Boy/girl? They look so alike, definitely identical"

Argh!! I know sexual equality is the 'in thing' but really, that's taking it a bit far!!

SamHamwidge · 01/10/2013 23:57

If this thread proves anything it's that there is no 'one size fits all'!

When DD was little I hated Pampers as they always leaked, b ut they seem better now (or maybe I am just better at doing nappies!) My favourite are Simply Dry (the orange packet) as they often seem to be a bit cheaper than Active Fit/Baby Dry and they are quite thin and flexible as opposed to all stiff and bulky. Some nappies make DD look like she has a brick in her pants but they are quite slimline.
I also quite like Cheeky Bots, Lidl are good value too and not too bulky (but bulkier than the pampers). Not tried Aldi yet.

SaltySeaBird · 02/10/2013 00:02

I can't seem to get Tescos to give me that offer either, what type / size combo did you go for?

MurderOfBanshees · 02/10/2013 00:22

We tried the Sainsbury's ones and didn't get on with them at all.

And I agree with whoever said the Huggies wipes are awful.

FloraPost · 02/10/2013 00:30

Pampers are dreadful, they stink when wet and both my DSs cry well before saturation point. There's something in them which really irritates the skin. Boots, Sainsbury's, Tesco and Waitrose are all good.
