I thought it was necessary to take CB off those on 50k so why are those on a lot more getting yet more money given to them?

It's not fair.

But they don't have the same thing - there are choices, bread instead of veg for one. Several meal options. And sorry in my teaching /dinner duty experience most kids would rather go hungry and leg it out to play than eat something they didn't like.

My own kids often go to bed hungry at night if they don't like the meal I cook at night. Not being a cafe it's that or nowt.

I have had a child in the dinner hall recently, one lunch was mash, sausage and beans. They didn't want the mash, cos they don't like it, apparently they don't like mash or beans either!

What can you do?

It's not just the stay at home mums that it hits. It annoys me that that has been the main argument point of this v infair rule.
Two couples all working full time but with different splits in who earns what are treated v differently.
So a couple eating £40k each with a combined income of £80k get child benefit.
A couple earning £60k and £20k with same combined income not only get taxed more to begin with but don't get child benefit.
There really is no fairness on that.

Sausages!!!!! Not mash, course the poor little devil wouldn't like portions of mash!!!!!

This is so wrong. Ds2 will get it as of sept. We shouldn't be given it. It should only be for those in deprived areas.
What a waste if money!!

MissWinter01 · 22/12/2013 14:21

Got to a say if I was on 50k I wouldn't be fussy about losing CB.

BRAIIINSSS!!!!

Glad I've seen this threa, I agree that FSM for all is a bloody waste of money.

We're skint but we manage, id much rather the money be spent on the little things that fall through the cracks - remember Riven talking about incontinence products for older kids or more home start helpers for respite.

It's the little things that are causing pain, the nhs is a money pit. I'd just like the govt to think a bit more, LIB DEMS are coming across as the tossers rather than torys, who'd have thought?

Well I think that making policies so obviously unfair (taking away CB according to 1 income) just makes people want to screw the system more. Myself, sister and mother all left well paid jobs to become SAH when we had children. We also looked after our elderley grandparents between us. None of us claimed any benefits apart from CB and we were fine. Now we have all lost CB and yet see families next door with a lot more disposable income than us still claiming it. The sheer unfairness of this made me look into what benefits we could be receiving and I now get middle rate DLA for a child with speech delay (this seems ridiculous to me), carers allowance for all of us and attendance allowance for the grandparents. Not such a saving for the government in this case was it?!

How big percentage of wage earning people are on 100 or 300k? How many of them opt to send their children to the local state school?

These people are generally not taking resources from the nhs and education sector, paying for private healthcare and schooling for their children, yet they pay a lot of tax.

I really would not begrudge the very few rich kids in state education a free lunch.

You are creating a storm in a tea cup over a few rich family's kids getting free lunches when this initiative will help a large amount of children across the board.
