To be a bit confused about Mumsnet Classics?

A lot of threads have gone into Classics, but really that's because people get swept away with it. At the time. The thread may have been funny and those posting had a day or so of laughing, but why does it need to be in Classics?

Does anyone ever look in Classics? Apart from maybe to find the unfunny Pom Bear thread? Confused

Oh booble plate. It was the thread that got me.

Also, the neighbours buggy in the shared space.

LadyBeagleEyes · 15/09/2013 23:13

I loved crap tips, someone should start a new one.
I don't get Take a Break or Viz, I'd love to see it revived.

OryxCrake · 15/09/2013 23:24

The ones I find funny are the ones that have loads of anecdotes. I loved The least professional moments of my illustrious career and What not to do - the stupidity thread.

ChippingInNeedsSleepAndCoffee · 15/09/2013 23:26

I think that often it is the 'unfolding' of the thread that is funny and when you read it 'cold' it's just not the same...

The thread that always makes me laugh when I think of it is 'Ya minge, everyone can see ya minge' - but it was a time & place. You 'know' the OP, you see the thread unfolding...

I don't know if the other one that makes me laugh is in there or not - but I am CANADIAN - yet, reading it cold, I don't suppose it's that funny.

Sorry, Sparkling - Classics has it's place :)

Oh, my favourite, and our family use this phrase frequently: Cutted up Pear thread

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 15/09/2013 23:33

Cutted Up Pear is the "If my 3 year old was on AIBU" - the phrase "utter arse of a woman" will stay with me, and amuse me, forever Grin I don't even have to read the whole thread, it is just the first post - Classic is the only word for it Grin

ZingWantsCake · 15/09/2013 23:36

mumsnet at its best

better?

ShakeAndVac · 16/09/2013 00:20

I occasionally venture into Classics. There's some really funny threads in there that have me laughing my head off [I'm easily amused. Grin ]
The grandparents one had me reminiscing for Sunday afternoon visits and cups of tea on trays, and remembering long forgotten memories.
I love classics, always good for a laugh or a reminisce!

Wuldric · 16/09/2013 00:24

Some threads are really funny and stand the test of time.

I reckon MNHQ would do well to wait for a month or so and then see if they still find it funny before saving it for posterity.

FWIW my feeling is that the standard for hitting MN Classics is going downhill. Like GCSEs, there is an element of grade inflation. I give you the-towel-that-wasn't-missing thread. Two good lines and it hits classics. Sheesh.

MrsSippy · 16/09/2013 00:49

why isn't there a link to Classics on the menu at the bottom of the page? I can never find my way there without a link...

elcranko · 16/09/2013 00:49

T Rex in Asda was hilarious. As was the supersoaker thread. There's one about bad experiences when visiting someone else's house which I found funny too.

MrsCakesPremonition · 16/09/2013 00:59

Some Classic threads are the gradual unrolling of a story. They are good, but don't generally merit a second reading.
The best Classic threads are the ones where everyone bundles on and tells their own personal best/worst stories. Like Cutted Up Pear or some of the embarrassing stories ones.

thistlelicker · 16/09/2013 01:00

Tidy dancer wedding thread well four of them were epic, but worthy of classic????

Monty27 · 16/09/2013 01:09

I love the booble plate and the Parle Francais Mamanset Classiques.

Not fussed on the Penguin thread or the Pom Bear thread. I thought the Penguin thread was funny at first but it went very flat, well as did the Pom Bear thread.

Monty27 · 16/09/2013 01:12

I loathed the poo pouffe thread.

I was reading one today "Well that Ended Well" and I was laughing, but I'm only half way through it. I hope I'm not disappointed. Grin

sashh · 16/09/2013 06:12

I didn't see it 'live' but PMSL at the tRex one. I love a good rummage in classics

Sparklingbrook · 16/09/2013 07:06

Morning all. I think everyone has stated their case that they love Classics so proving that Sparkling knows nothing and is a right old misery. Grin

Maybe they are just not for me, I am more of a 'at the time' type of gal. Grin

The painted pigeon one always makes me laugh All i have to hear is someone say paul is that you and i'm off giggling like a loon

RustyBear · 16/09/2013 07:10

I seem to remember someone at MNHQ saying that getting into the Talk round-up meant instant promotion to Classics, which could account for a lot of them.

AmberLeaf · 16/09/2013 07:34

Mumsnet classics has given me hours of amusement, but, the 'you had to be there' ones are tedious and very unfunny. Very emperors new clothes IMO. All 'Im crying here' really? I doubt it.

But there are some brilliant threads in there, I like the heartwarming or funny anecdotes the best.

HoneyDragon · 16/09/2013 07:35

No. Round up doesn't = classics. For starters a lot of the threads in classics aren't suitable for the round up, due to their adult nature. Grin

MoaningMingeWhingesAgain · 16/09/2013 07:36

Threads you were following live definitely have an extra frisson IMHO. I distinctly remember googling for suitable replacement pouffes for the pooey pouffe threadBlush
And the mumsnet prayer was originally in Chat and I wanted to keep it, so I put it my profile pageGrin It was quote of the week though

Sparklingbrook · 16/09/2013 07:38

I have never said 'I am crying here' . Sad Blimey I am a misery. I do though.
