Im talking about women who have children, not babies.

I.e your pelvic floor hasnt recently been stretched, therefore it will be on your mind to fix it.

I really need to do my pelvic floor but dont.

Im looked into it recently and every time, what makes me stop is the fact that you have to do it several times a day for the rest of your life.

I really cant believe it crosses womens mind every day, let alone several times a day?

It doesnt happen, surely?

Maybe when you have a baby and its on your mind but not when they are 2 years old, 8 years old, 15 years old?

I just cant believe it?

I've got into the habit of doing a round of 10 when I'm in the car. Sometimes this will be just twice a day, sometimes more. I figure anything is better than nothing.

Fairyliz · 04/09/2013 21:17

Well my kids are teenagers and reading your thread I have just done them for the first time in ten years!

CocacolaMum · 04/09/2013 21:17

tmi.. are you ready?... I am not even sure HOW you do pelvic floor exercises < blush >

Happily I don't gush everytime I cough yet but I suppose I ought to google it really

mamalovebird · 04/09/2013 21:21

I do 5 every time I go to the toilet. Ten takes too long. It's just become habit now.

OHforDUCKScake · 04/09/2013 21:21

No I dont piss my pants either but I have a very slight prolapse which will, presumably get worse with age.

My poor Mum was all 'nah dont worry I never didnt them and I have three babies' then her bladder fell out her fanny.

Which is why I think I should do them. But forever?!

Cant I just be pinned back up eventually?

When you are going for a wee squeeze the muscles that stop the wee midflow. It's the same squeeze as the pelvic floor exercise. I do a set of 10 when I brush my teeth so twice a day ;-)

mamalovebird · 04/09/2013 21:22

I was told to imagine you are doing up a zip in your vagina then you're doing them properly.

McNewPants2013 · 04/09/2013 21:23

I do them every day, it a habit after i have been to the toilet.

DC are 4 and 7.

If i don't do them then i am afraid to sneeze or cough.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/09/2013 21:24

The stopping the wee thing is not a good idea, it seems.

I reckon that the reality is that less than 5% of women do them routinely. DD2 is 16 and this thread is the first time I've even thought about it since after she was born!

CocacolaMum · 04/09/2013 21:24

My poor Mum was all 'nah dont worry I never didnt them and I have three babies' then her bladder fell out her fanny

you bloody what?!!?! :O I do not like this at all! off to google it now

Jengnr · 04/09/2013 21:28

I don't believe anyone does them until they see the word 'pelvic floor' then they do a couple of squeezes.

DuelingFanjo · 04/09/2013 21:28

If you spend ages holding your wee in because you are too busy to goto the toilet, is that pretty much the same thing?

Capitola · 04/09/2013 21:29

This thread is making me do them involuntarily - especially when I read the zip bit.

OHforDUCKScake · 04/09/2013 21:30

Duel No. That will just give you cystitis and on top of that your bladder might fall out your fanny because you werent doing pelvic floor exercises. Brew

Every time I'm at a red light!

And since I live in SW London, that's a LOT of squeezes....

LuvMyBoyz · 04/09/2013 21:31

OhForDucks you made me giggle! I only started doing them when I actually wet myself when I went running. Scary not to be able to stop it. I do 2 sets of 10 before I get out of bed 3 times a week. I know you have to do an action 40-50 times for it to become a habit so I persevered by putting a note beside the bed...and now it has been a habit for 2 years. I never did them before the age of 49... Sucked my slight prolapse right back up there!

So worth it for peace of mind.

OHforDUCKScake · 04/09/2013 21:31

Totally agree Jenger

Humuhumunukunukuapuaa · 04/09/2013 21:33

I bought a tool after having 10lb DS. DS is now 4 and has been joined by 10.5lb DD. the tool is still in it's box. Unused

MissMuesli · 04/09/2013 21:33

I don't mean I do it when I'm weeing, just trying to explain that the action is the same. (Am I wrong about that? As that's the squeeze I do?

CocacolaMum · 04/09/2013 21:33

what if you are clenching the wrong muscle?! is that possible?!

Meglet · 04/09/2013 21:33

I did them before I even had children, not sure what triggered the habit.

Try and do them when you're queueing, at traffic lights, waiting at school etc.

cowmop · 04/09/2013 21:34

Well...I go to Pilates for an hour a week, so I reckon I do the recommended 900 sets of 200 reps a day all in one go. Yay me!

pizzachickenhotforyou · 04/09/2013 21:35

I've got a free app on my phone that goes off twice a day to remind me & says how long you do them for Confused

ElsieOops · 04/09/2013 21:36
