AIBU to really not believe that even 50% of women do pelvic floor exercises every single day?

Im talking about women who have children, not babies.

I.e your pelvic floor hasnt recently been stretched, therefore it will be on your mind to fix it.

I really need to do my pelvic floor but dont.

Im looked into it recently and every time, what makes me stop is the fact that you have to do it several times a day for the rest of your life.

I really cant believe it crosses womens mind every day, let alone several times a day?

It doesnt happen, surely?

Maybe when you have a baby and its on your mind but not when they are 2 years old, 8 years old, 15 years old?

I just cant believe it?

Oh God. Is this another thing that I have to add to my list of 'lady-admin' tasks? Angry. I've never done them...probably explains why I keep peeing my pants Confused.

eddiemairswife · 04/09/2013 22:29

They didn't exist when I had my 4 children!! The lightest was 8lb 12oz. I now have grand children. I don't wet myself when I cough or sneeze and I'm too decrepit to run. I don't have to get up to wee in the night. I don't think they would be much use to me.

Jan49 · 04/09/2013 22:39

When my ds was born (early 90s) the advice about pelvic floor exercises included stopping mid wee, holding it and then starting again, then stopping etc. But more recently it's been said that this is not advisable. However I admit I'd not been doing them anyway. Blush

largelandmass · 04/09/2013 22:43

I bet over 50% are doing them now after reading this Grin

Annunziata · 04/09/2013 22:44

My oldest is 23 and the youngest is 15 and I still do mine most days. I trained myself to do that one where you stop peeing and then start again and now I can't stop Blush

jammiedonut · 04/09/2013 22:45

I've just started doing mine in bed, before I go to sleep and as soon as I wake up. Took going for a run and peeing my pants to take them seriously. Not a good look at 25, but muscles are a lot weaker than I thought after 9lb ds!

snowlie · 04/09/2013 23:22

One of the few advantages of having a section - my pelvic floor has never been a problem.

MistressDeeCee · 05/09/2013 01:43

Never ever had any issues, but

" My poor Mum was all 'nah dont worry I never didnt them and I have three babies' then her bladder fell out her fanny " has sent me reeling Shock Im starting today.

mrsmalcolmreynolds · 05/09/2013 02:16

snowlie you can have pelvic floor issues even if you've never had s VB - the pressure of carrying children in the womb has an effect as well as actually giving birth. ..

snowlie · 05/09/2013 06:06

Mrsmalcom I carried triplets and was quite large and I never so much as had one uncontrolled drop escape and I do put that down to having a c section.

FeijoaVodkaLovesHokeyPokey · 05/09/2013 06:41

You need a chat with Gussiegrips. She did a whole (hilarious) show at the Edinburgh Fringe about this very subject. The up shot is if you want to stop weeing yourself and have better sex, three sets of hold for 10, twitch for 10, 3 up then down, three times a day for three months will sort your slack fanjo/yoni out.

Humuhumunukunukuapuaa · 05/09/2013 07:39

No snowlie neither have I....yet....

It's the future that scares me

I'm pretty sure it's the weight of the baby on your pelvic floor whilst you're carrying it that does the damage. Damage that doesn't present itself for some time

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 05/09/2013 08:17

I do them when I brush my teeth and when I'm washing up so 3 or 4 times a day and whenever I see or hear the words pelvic floor

valiumredhead · 05/09/2013 08:25

I do, always have done even pre baby,ds is 12 now.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 05/09/2013 08:28

You shouldn't be doing levels, you should be doing squats....

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 05/09/2013 08:29

Levels=kegels

Weegiemum · 05/09/2013 08:34

I do!!

The day after dd1 was born (she's 13 1/2 now) the obstetric physio who had helped with my spd put her head round he door. She was very forthright which is why I thinki liked her so much.

She said "10lb baby? OP? Ventouse? 23 stitches? Start the exercises today or you'll be pissing yourself by 40!".

I'd like to report that I'm 42 now and have never pissed myself!

CairngormsClydesdale · 05/09/2013 08:44

Massive myth - everyone's pelvic floor gets fucked even c-sectioners. Where the fuck did that myth originate from?

What a load of bollocks. 2 sections here, no pissy gussets and haven't done kegels since I was 18 and read in Cosmo (probably) that it would make my sex life better.

It's a myth perpetuated by those who had vaginal births and now wet themselves.

GertBySea · 05/09/2013 09:07

I'm just commenting because every time I see this in Active Convos, it reminds me to do them.

snowlie · 05/09/2013 09:23

Suggests it's not entirely a myth!

Pigsmummy · 05/09/2013 09:30

I did them a lot in pregnancy but not since?! There is an app for iPhone, will download it now. It worked for me in pregnancy as it pops up a reminder.

Fakebook · 05/09/2013 09:35

I'm pregnant and do them randomly, but when not pregnant I do them as much as possible when I get a piles flair up. They go away much quicker when I do pelvic floors.

As an aside: Did anyone else start doing them as soon as they read the thread title?
