Im talking about women who have children, not babies.

I.e your pelvic floor hasnt recently been stretched, therefore it will be on your mind to fix it.

I really need to do my pelvic floor but dont.

Im looked into it recently and every time, what makes me stop is the fact that you have to do it several times a day for the rest of your life.

I really cant believe it crosses womens mind every day, let alone several times a day?

It doesnt happen, surely?

Maybe when you have a baby and its on your mind but not when they are 2 years old, 8 years old, 15 years old?

I just cant believe it?

I did them throughout my first pregnancy. Ever since I've had to focus on relaxing if I need to pee. I can be bursting, but if I don't force myself to relax, I can't fecking go. I will not be doing pelvic floor exercises again for some time.

mignonette · 05/09/2013 09:50

I have done these very simple exercises every day of my life bar the days I gave birth and probably a few high days and holidays. They are the only exercise you can do imperceptibly, need no special gear, clothing and can be performed during sex if you want (recommended!).

I cannot understand why women tolerate even slight levels of urinary incontinence without seeking help. In France you are offered post natal physio input to address PF issues.

Please do them. They are so simple. Stopping and starting micturition (urination) once you have started is a good and easy way of exercising. You should be able to stop full flow of urine several times with decent strong PFM's.

Having a decent PF keeps a whole heap of post Menopausal problems potentially at bay.

mignonette · 05/09/2013 09:53

Yes it is generally VB's that cause the most damage. Hormonal changes caused by pregnancy do relax ligaments and other tissues+weight of baby can cause some PF weakness but generally not enough to cause the incontinence experienced by post VB's.

You should be able to trampoline with a full bladder whilst laughing and not be incontinent. PF's will allow you to do this. There is more intensive treatment available from GP's if you ask for it too. Please don't suffer in silence.

CalamityGin · 05/09/2013 09:56

is it just me who hates the sensation you get when you do them - I feel like punching someone Shock

what about those kegel machines, anyone tried those?

YoniBottsBumgina · 05/09/2013 09:59

I've read you're not supposed to actually do it regularly when weeing though, fine to do it once or twice to identify the movement needed, or if you need to get up mid wee or whatever, but not to do it regularly.

Doing it during sex is rather fun... in fact doing it directly after sex is hilarious

Toizzy · 05/09/2013 16:51

I keep forgetting (2 1/2 month old) but have just been doing them now while reading through all the posts
Someone needs to post daily about PF Smile

Tuppence2 · 05/09/2013 16:58

I do 10 every time I get a bus... 4 buses a day when I'm at work)
I also have those little ball things you can put up there, which adds to doing them as you have to hold in the balls when you wee!

I definitely have never had them in at work, then ran to pee, forgetting about them, peed them out and had to fish them out of the toilet! Nope, not me! Blush

Feminine · 05/09/2013 17:07

I do pilates a few times a week.

And for an extra boost , I do it during sex.

Ladysamantha · 05/09/2013 17:28

So does anyone else know anyone whose bladder has fallen out of their fanny?. If it isn't that common then I will continue not to do them and risk it.

lotsofcheese · 05/09/2013 17:32

Never done them, had 2 pregnancies & c-sections. No issues with continence whatsoever.

SlippersAndPipe · 05/09/2013 17:49

Hmm...thanks for reminding me. I should do them, especially since I had surgery a couple of years ago for a prolapse (one of those bladder falling out of fanny incidences post childbirth...AND I was under 40) but I keep forgetting Blush

Did someone say something about a fanny squeezing app?

Feminine · 05/09/2013 19:23

lady it was that woman from the famous nursery rhyme Grin

I know she suffered.

my gran mumbled about hers too, I can't quite remember?

lyndie · 05/09/2013 19:32

If you do twitter follow GussieGrips and she reminds you to do them everyday!!

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 05/09/2013 19:39

I did one as I read the thread title, is that enoughGrin

My pelvic floor is crap, I know that but I hate doing them so much! I've had a forceps delivery, a radical hysterectomy, a vault repair because the top of my vagina was prolapsing and I still have a rectocele. Mostly I blame the radical hysterectomy for the prolapses, they took my cervix and the top of my vagina so not much left to hoick me up. I'm a runner too which puts a lot of pressure on things.

I know I should do them regularly but I have that horse has already bolted feeling......

SueDoku · 05/09/2013 20:20

Saw a consultant today about a few bits and bobs; she took my birth history (2 epidurals = 2 forceps births = 2 episiotomies) and then asked how often I peed myself - I said 'Never', she looked astonished and said, 'When you sneeze?' - 'No' - 'You must have done your pelvic floors..!'. Smile

I've done a few each day for the last 40 years - it's obviously paid off..!!

cantthinkofagoodone · 05/09/2013 21:29

I had a third degree tear and was taught how to do them by a physio at 8 weeks pp. Amazing the difference it's made. He's 14 months and they're a habit. I didn't know how beforehand.

LRDMaguliYaPomochTebeSRaboti · 05/09/2013 21:31

Well god knows we're all doing them now.

ShatnersBassoon · 05/09/2013 21:35

I only do 'em when I'm having it orf roughly twice a year. Perhaps if I did them more I'd get more chance to exercise them Confused

FoundAChopinLizt · 05/09/2013 21:36

Let's post when we do them, and this thread will keep on going reminding us all to do them. I saw a friend today who has a prolapse, it did make me think a put it. They sell those egg shaped weights in Boots that are meant to help you practice? You put them inside and try to keep them in.

AKissIsNotAContract · 05/09/2013 21:42

Just have a wank everyday, job done.

digerd · 05/09/2013 21:47

I did have trouble in my 50s and an internal by GP confirmed a slight prolapse of bladder and womb. For many women it can be caused by lifting and carrying heavy objects, I was told.

However, just recently 10 years later, I was examined by a gynae who found no prolapses at all. I have not been doing any pelvic floor exercises and can't run or jump anyway, so wondering how the miraculous self-hoisting happenedHmm

I do know a woman who has had the hoisting op 3 times - every 7 years and been told she is well and truly bound up now due to all the scarring from the ops! She is pleased she won't need the op again in 7 years time. She is now 69. < so must have had her 1st one at 48>

DoJo · 05/09/2013 22:07

How often do I do them? Every time I see this thread...

hogwartsismyhome · 05/09/2013 22:13

How are they meant to feel when you squeeze as I'm sure I'm squeezing the wrong bit!?

AnyoneButLulu · 05/09/2013 22:19

I definitely think MN needs to set up some kind of random orange thread that floats around Active Convos and is titled Do Your Bloody Kegels! Now!

It would be a proper public service. I need to get one of these associations that people have - maybe lifts would be good.

snozzlemaid · 05/09/2013 22:23

I recently got the kegel app which you can set reminders if you forget to do them. I've found it really good and each level gets you to squeeze and relax for different lengths of time.
