Have we been offensive...?

My DH has / had become quite good mates with one of our neighbours. They have two kids, we don't know her as well but he is the kind of person you bump into outside and find yourself talking to for nearly an hour.

DH and he have been going out for early morning dog walks. These have generally been great, lots to talk about etc, apart from our neighbour tends to go on and on (sometimes three quarters of the walk) about how either DH is old and calling him grandad etcetera, or about DS being ginger. (For the record, DH at 43 is three years older than neighbour and DS has blond hair, not that either of us would give a shit if it was ginger.) This constant 'banter' is quite irritating but DH couldn't change the subject or tell him to give it a rest without neighbour then going on and ON about how it was true /don't try and deny it and so on. Apart from this he's an alright bl

Shellywelly1973 · 31/08/2013 21:20

Mmmm...?

Roshbegosh · 31/08/2013 21:21

He sounds boring, can he just be avoided?

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 31/08/2013 21:21

I don't need any more to know that your neighbour is a twat.

Humuhumunukunukuapuaa · 31/08/2013 21:21

Intrigue...

babysaurus · 31/08/2013 21:22

Fucking phone!

As I was saying... Apart from this he's an alright bloke but it was getting quite tedious on that front.

On Weds DH got a text from him saying something about how he'd seen a 'scary looking old man in shorts' outside so DH replied 'whatever', which then provoked another 'old man' type text. DH replied 'perhaps you're spending too much time with 2 and four year olds, please give it a rest' which prompted this response "I make no apology for spending all (or "too much") of the available time I can with my beautiful family. I'm lucky. Sorry to disappoint your expectations - I'll continue to operate on the low level I do and remain ignorant to the teachings of this 'adult conversation'

He hasn't spoken to either of us since! Which is awkward as we live two doors up!

I didn't think it was that offensive, so MN jury AIBU or not...?!

Sorry! Pressed post accidentally before and had too much to add!

Tiredemma · 31/08/2013 21:24

I'd give him a wide berth. He sounds like a nobhead.

Tee2072 · 31/08/2013 21:25

Sounds like a self centred git. Avoid him.

babysaurus · 31/08/2013 21:26

I'm starting to think that too. Thing is, other than that he seems very switched on etc and we have had a goodlaugh. Its weird.

YANBU he sounds a complete knob.

Eilidhbelle · 31/08/2013 21:26

YANBU and sounds like you've had a lucky escape!

Marshy · 31/08/2013 21:27

Neighbour sounds a bit of a knob and clearly not spending all of his available time with his beautiful family if he can spend an hour chatting with your dh about nothing. I think you have had a lucky escape

Marshy · 31/08/2013 21:28

Many crossed posts re knobs and lucky escape!

Roshbegosh · 31/08/2013 21:28

Maybe your DH did offend him but tough. He sounds like a pain in the arse and this fallout would have to have happened sooner or later for your sanity. You should be relieved.

babysaurus · 31/08/2013 21:28

So, am getting the consensus that we are not bring especially (or even remotely) offensive then? I didn't feel as if we were but wondered if perhaps we have the hides of a rhino or something instead.
His reaction I found bizarre to say the least

Pascha · 31/08/2013 21:29

Definitely a knob.

cookielove · 31/08/2013 21:29

What a dick some people need to be ignored!!

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 31/08/2013 21:29

He sounds an utter twat. I bet he says things like "for my sins" and "yourself" when he means "you"

cookielove · 31/08/2013 21:30

Whoops, that should have said:

What a dick!! Some people just need to be ignored!!

LemonPeculiarJones · 31/08/2013 21:30

What a twat. Count yourself lucky he's asked off!

LemonPeculiarJones · 31/08/2013 21:30

*backed off

BlackholesAndRevelations · 31/08/2013 21:30

Does he go out to work? Why would he get so touchy about spending time with his kids?

Also- yes he sounds like a right nob. Just steer clear.

LaurieFairyCake · 31/08/2013 21:31

He just has poor social skills.

Don't feel tempted to adopt him though.
