Inspired by the HW thread, I have been thinking about this for a while.

Arthur works for the MoM so wont be on a pittance as a head of department, even a minor one as there would surely be grades?

They eat massive amounts of expensive food having three courses at every dinner, cooked breakfast every day. When they win a load of money, instead of saving it in the knowledge that they have 4 kids still at school they blow the lot on a holiday of a month in Egypt! At the beginning of CoS Mrs W takes some silver sickles and ONE gold galleon from their vault, and then happily blows 1000 galleons on a holiday rather than see them financially secure for the next few years.

Seems to me that the reason their kids are in second hand robes and reading second hand books is because they are shit with money, not that they dont have enough.

Books.....They have to have a new Miranda Goshawk book each year, so when F&G have finished with them they could have passed one to Ron who passed it to Ginny and the older ones shared the remainder if they needed it, which is unlikely. Why have several unused copies of the same book in the family and still buy another one for the youngest student? Same with robes. Rons dress robes are second hand, but Mrs W says that Arthur has some for parties so why not lend him those (with some magically performed alternations if needed) rather than pod out for horrible second hand ones? Actually, thinking further, Mrs W is supposed to be a whizz at household stuff so why doesnt she transfigure the second hand stuff to look better?

They just throw good money after bad!

I got Ginny, longest 'fun' quiz ever! I thought it was going to be a trick thing at the end.

DiseasesOfTheSheep · 01/09/2013 22:21

I didn't have strong feelings on the quiz (I can't say I generally have strong feelings about such things!), so I picked what I regarded to be a mocking abstention from answering the question Grin

I fear I'm more Barty Crouch Jnr's impersonation of Moody though. I'd totally love to be able to reprimand students by turning them into ferrets and forcing them down their friend's trousers if I were a teacher...

Goldendandelion · 01/09/2013 22:30

I got Crookshanks at first, then Molly Weasley. Well I have got the same number of children!

pourmeanotherglass · 01/09/2013 22:41

another lupin here. Could be worse, he's one of my favourite characters. Surprised i got a bloke after being asked my gender at the end

Trills · 01/09/2013 22:53

I am happy to be Lupin, and I enjoyed that test!

nicelyneurotic · 01/09/2013 23:05

Fun quiz! I'm Minerva McGonagall with Peter Pettigrew as my opposite.

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance · 01/09/2013 23:13

Me too Nicely but I got Crookshanks first.

BellaTheGooseIsDead · 01/09/2013 23:19

I'd have been cool with Lupin.

Wondered myself about the gender and had a horrible time trying to prove I wasn't a robot - or maybe I need new glasses?

Voldemort though...

Bogeyface · 01/09/2013 23:47

I did it again in a bad mood after trying (and failing) to fix the dishwasher (my dishes come out covered in gritty stuff...anyone?) and I came out as Narcissa Malfoy. Polar opposite was Albus Dumbledore.

Comparing Dobby and NM's description I really am a bit of both!

I think you should all take it twice to see the differences.

BellaTheGooseIsDead · 02/09/2013 00:08

Good idea Bogeyface. I suppose it could be worse - I could have been Draco, the cowardly snivelling little git. At least Voldemort had the courage of his convictions.

Or maybe bedtime just turns me into The Dark Lord?

Be interested to see results from doing it early in the morning before you've a hot drink / cigarette / stuck head under the tap Grin

Bogeyface · 02/09/2013 01:11

Bella I agree that Voldy did at least stick by what he believed. OK so what he believed was fucked up beyond belief but still!

I always have more respect for people who have offensive beliefs and stand by them than wet lettuces who will say one thing and then retract it when challenged. Changing tack but this why I got pissed off at the outcry when the BNP members list went public. If you are racist then stand by it! If you are ashamed then its because you know it is wrong.

OP posts:
Bogeyface · 02/09/2013 01:13

That sounds like I support racism doesnt it? I dont, I am the mother of a mixed raced family!

BellaTheGooseIsDead · 02/09/2013 01:32

Goodness, it honestly doesn't!

I do remember in the questionnaire saying that I don't blindly follow a faith and am always open to having my views challenged and will change if I think it's right. Voldemort chose, but for all the wrong reasons.

Good point about the BNP hypocrites Angry

I suppose Tom Riddle was very conflicted and to be fair my result was Tom / Voldy and there are positives to taken from both. I feel very much for the young Tom and Severus.

Bogeyface · 02/09/2013 02:02

I cant help wondering how different life would have been for Tom/Voldy if his mother hadnt thought more of her lost love than her unborn child.

I think thats what Harry picks up on when he realises the similarities between him and Voldy. Harry had a shitty life but he knew that it was because his parents died for him. Tom had a shitty life because his mother loved his errant father more than she loved him. Snape had a shitty life because of his abusive father but his mother loved him and did her best for him, so he was conflicted at first but ultimately did the right thing.

Bogeyface · 02/09/2013 02:07

And all of those lost boys came to their realisations at the same age.

Harry got rescued at 11 by Hogwarts and got the truth about his parents so went one way. Tom got rescued at 11 by Hogwarts and realised that his father wasnt going to come to him so went the other way. Snape got rescued at 11 by Hogwarts and his friendship with Lily but was waylaid by his Slytherin pals and his inner issues, so was always conflicted but ulitmately his inner love won.

Sparklysilversequins · 02/09/2013 02:49

I am Remus Lupin and I am actually quite pleased with that.

Am a woman though so not sure why they bothered asking for gender Confused.

hermioneweasley · 02/09/2013 09:09

How do you know snape's father was abusive?

Bogeyface · 02/09/2013 09:18

Its in the last book, part of his memory that Harry looks at, he and Lily and talk about it.

They're upper middle class bohemian (father civil servant, family concerned about their education etc.) in contrast to the Dursleys LMC neatness and materialism. They're only poor because it's a convention in children's books that the poor are always good. Their poverty is very patchy- clothes may be second hand but they have a large house in the country, eat very well and the wedding was very smart

MissHC · 02/09/2013 10:16

I'm Ginny! Actually really happy with that Smile

Gracelo · 02/09/2013 10:18

I'm Ginny it seems, Umbridge my polar opposite.

Beastofburden · 02/09/2013 10:45

remus lupin here
