A hand-counter is a perfectly fine thing for Tesco to sell.

But calling it a Totty Clicker? Really, Tesco? Really? I know you're just a marketplace for someone else here, but still....

If you have a strong stomach, here is the copy:
"Totty Clicker The Totty Clicker was made famous by a Mr. Ben Affleck in a Lynx television advertisement. Tally counters were usually carried around by large burley bouncers for counting people entering clubs and bars, but thanks to the Hollywood star there has been a keen following of the Totty Clicker ever since. The Totty Clicker is the latest 'mancessory' used by young gentlemen whilst wetting their whistle at the local public house or 'Disco.' These Cad's click their Totty Clicker tally counters when smiled upon by a good looking filly, thus creating a competitive sport in which to embark upon on an evening. Chap's all over England are exercising their right to judge whether they think they are 'Wed worthy or not' at the click of a button. Competitive sports have always been popular with the young men of this country and Totty Clicker's have just added one more to the books. The Totty Clicker comes in a chrome finish (this can also be used as a reflective instrument to comb ones..."

Arnold

What in the world world of sport is a "sme"?

Better answer or I might start guessing

MurderOfGoths · 30/08/2013 16:29

Jamie One of ?

Secretswitch · 30/08/2013 16:29

Jamie, I was sort of wondering myself..but figured it must be some esoteric lingo thing best understood in the ivy towers of academia..

Tee2072 · 30/08/2013 16:31

SME= small to medium enterprise

NotAQueef · 30/08/2013 16:32

I tweeted @tescomedia (possibly should have used uktesco though!). There seem to be a fair few tweets on the go about it. Interested to see if Tesco respond, and if so what they say/do.

Dobbiesmum · 30/08/2013 16:32

No answer from Tesco but my tweet has been retweeted. Their customer service people do seem to answer good and bad tweets so we'll see.

hollyisalovelyname · 30/08/2013 16:32

Star Ball Bunny I hate giving business to Tesco because
a) I have never seen the manager 'walking the floor' of the shop or greeting customers in my 25 years of using my really convenient Tesco store
b) they treat their customers ( suckers) in Ireland badly- crappy bags we have to pay for - really bad quality ( always bursting open) Confuseddifferent to the ones for their English customers.
c) Queues, always queues because they don't have enough staff , staff impact on the bottom line - huge profits.
d) the staff don't appear to be happy in their jobs. Is this cos they are not treated well by their employers?

Dobbiesmum · 30/08/2013 16:33

Queef I tweeted ukTesco, wasn't sure which one to use tbh.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 30/08/2013 16:34

Jamie it's a Small- or Medium-sized Enterprise, an acronym used by folks like the EU, UN, WTO etc. I think HMRC use it too.

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 30/08/2013 16:36

Thanks all for the sme explanation, although I none the wiser. My family is a sme

Tee - I have emailed Tesco, so have taken it seriously

SauceForTheGander · 30/08/2013 16:37

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 30/08/2013 16:38

I asked if they had a work experience person seconded from Nuts to write it. I don't think they'll reply

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 30/08/2013 16:38

X post

Good. Poor quality control

Squiffie · 30/08/2013 16:53

I would like to draw attention to the dimensions of the product again as it got lost amongst the talk of doctorates and ologies.

Incidentally I have an ology and it led me to a career of teaching teenagers in Scunthorpe. So anyone who fancies an ology foc please enquire within! ;)

HomeHelpMeGawd · 30/08/2013 17:11

Seensomuch, you win the prize for the most pointless moan I've seen on this thread so far. Congratulations!

As it seems to need pointing out to you: I was using the phrase metaphorically, not because I thought anyone would find it literally nauseating.

Incidentally, and a propos of absolutely nothing and certainly not your post, did you know that one of my favourite phrases is "Never underestimate the power of human stupidity"?

Glad it's getting removed - thank you all who helped.

I wonder if Everyday Sexism would be interested in a JV with Mumsnet doing Everyday Antisexist Activism, where these kinds of things are picked up and acted on. There was one a few weeks back about breastfeeding on Northern Rail trains.
