In what sense is it OK for Tesco to use this message to sell this?

A hand-counter is a perfectly fine thing for Tesco to sell.

But calling it a Totty Clicker? Really, Tesco? Really? I know you're just a marketplace for someone else here, but still....

If you have a strong stomach, here is the copy:
"Totty Clicker The Totty Clicker was made famous by a Mr. Ben Affleck in a Lynx television advertisement. Tally counters were usually carried around by large burley bouncers for counting people entering clubs and bars, but thanks to the Hollywood star there has been a keen following of the Totty Clicker ever since. The Totty Clicker is the latest 'mancessory' used by young gentlemen whilst wetting their whistle at the local public house or 'Disco.' These Cad's click their Totty Clicker tally counters when smiled upon by a good looking filly, thus creating a competitive sport in which to embark upon on an evening. Chap's all over England are exercising their right to judge whether they think they are 'Wed worthy or not' at the click of a button. Competitive sports have always been popular with the young men of this country and Totty Clicker's have just added one more to the books. The Totty Clicker comes in a chrome finish (this can also be used as a reflective instrument to comb ones..."

Aw bloody hell! Just realised I have an ology too.

NotAQueef · 30/08/2013 16:06

I submitted a form on their website to point out the distasteful nature of the product - particularly as their site says the age range is 3-4 years!!
I also gave them a detailed break down of the grammatical/punctuation errors.

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 30/08/2013 16:06

I've got 2 OLOGIES

NeoMaxiZoomDweebie · 30/08/2013 16:07

[runs into thread and smacks DrArnie on back of head]

[runs off again]

MurderOfGoths · 30/08/2013 16:07

NotAQueef I think I love you for that Grin

PramQueen1971 · 30/08/2013 16:07

Arnie, I'm with you on the twatting of old people. Only them what stink of piss and talk about the war, though.

ShatnersBassoon · 30/08/2013 16:07

I knew that would shut you all up with your doctorate shizzle. I hate bragging about it, but sometimes one just has to pull rank.

PramQueen1971 · 30/08/2013 16:08

Queeff, that should do the trick. Not. Hmm

YouTheCat · 30/08/2013 16:09

I got my ology from Newcastle Polytechnic. It's now Northumbria University.

When it was changing status we wanted to call it the City University of Newcastle upon Tyne - but they wouldn't let us. Grin

RedPencils · 30/08/2013 16:11

Do men really have competitions to see who gets the most girls to smile at them?

Dobbiesmum · 30/08/2013 16:12

I've just tweeted the customer care. I think I might have broken through my own personal sarcasm limit at the same time. I've just about managed to get sarcasm, passive aggressive and a smidgen of disdain into 136 characters...
Grin

Arnie123 · 30/08/2013 16:14

No need to call me drarnie as I left academia a few years back to set up a sme but thanks anyway

Secretswitch · 30/08/2013 16:14

It seems so odd and desperate to me when a poster brings their supposed educational credits into a forum discussion. As if the mere mention, will silence everyone with shock and awe.

NotAQueef · 30/08/2013 16:14

PramQueen1971 Why the Hmm face?? I didn't suggest I had resolved anything by sending the message to Tesco did I? Confused

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 30/08/2013 16:15

I've complained and did ask them if the use of the Grocer's apostrophe was ironic.

DuelingFanjo · 30/08/2013 16:15

my degree is useless since we entered the digital age :D

You can submit a 'product review' on the Tesco site if you are so inclined Smile They say it will take 72 hours for them to publish it, though I bet they don't publish mine Wink

NotAQueef · 30/08/2013 16:18

Grin Dueling. I don't care if they ignore me, just made me feel better about myself for sending it.

Secretswitch · 30/08/2013 16:18

I took a Hello Kitty lunch box with me every day whilst pursing my graduate degree at Big Name University.

ShatnersBassoon · 30/08/2013 16:19

All of those contacting Tesco, make sure you mention any ology you might have. It really has paid dividends for me when I've dropped it into conversation with Customer Services reps. Even a doctorate might carry come clout if they underestimate who they're dealing with.

NotAQueef · 30/08/2013 16:23

Shatners Damn it, I forgot my ology - they'll never take me seriously now!

I checked the product description on the find me a gift site and it is different - no rogue apostrophes and a definite different tone.

Tee2072 · 30/08/2013 16:24

So much for people taking this seriously.

NeoMaxiZoomDweebie · 30/08/2013 16:25

Queef what that tells me is that Tesco have paid someone to rewrite descriptions...something I'm asked to do a lot when the same product is going to appear on various sites. The only trouble is that they seem to have paid a badly educated 12 year old to do it!

ShatnersBassoon · 30/08/2013 16:26

Oh come on, Tee. Nobody is messing around off topic because they think the complaint is a joke. It's keeping the thread bumped up if nothing else.

I am Tee I've written them a very strict letter. Grin Gave them a proper telling off and demanded the description is changed NOW!
