I've been a secretary for a company for nearly ten years now and work 16 hours per week since my maternity leave ended.

The company are moving 15 miles away down the busiest stretch of motorway for miles around so I've started to look for something else

I've sent about 80 cv's and covering letters out but I'm struggling to find part time secretarial work so I think I may have to start looking for something else

Just looking for ideas? This has been my only full time job as I'm 28 so apart from a shop I can't think of anything - not that I'm adverse to working in a shop!

mrsDevere I found the job on gumtree- I was convinced it was a scam but it wasn't! It's solicitors mostly talking in to a dictaphone and sometimes it is impossible to hear what they're saying. I'm new to it which might explain things but it took me about 8 hours to do my first letter! You soon get used to the terminology though. You could contact lecturers, doctors, surveyors etc and see if they need anyone? Very handy for genuine work from home employment :)

Could you do secretarial work, ie outsourced copy typing, from home? I know a couple of people who run virtual secretarial services from their own home and seem to enjoy the autonomy it brings.

I advocate for children in child protection proceedings and for children who are unhappy with the decisions being made by social workers etc. I work from home but the hours are 'as and when' so sometimes need childcare at short notice to go to conferences and i don't have a routine. I love it but hope to be able to work a basic 18 1/2 hours over 2 or three days in the future doing something similar but with colleagues and an office to go to!

I have been offered a share of a gift shop too and am quite tempted to give that a go!

Police officer. I average 20 hours a week but I have to do shifts so it changes weekly.
Not to be recommended as I can't just walk out at the end of a shift even when I have to pick up the kids so I always have to have someone on standby

I work 20 hours a week in childcare. Very low wages but hopefully it will help with my qualifications! Even if it doesn't I'm loving it.

I love the work as opposed to my old job, in a large corporate setting for so many, long, wasted years!

Another Parish Clerk here, working a few hours a week from home. I'm hoping to get another job (in addition to this one) at some point in the next year or so and have thought of looking at church administrator vacancies (probably few and far between and often just a few hours a week, but you at least get to meet other people...). Interesting to read about university posts - will start investigating those as well.
