I've been a secretary for a company for nearly ten years now and work 16 hours per week since my maternity leave ended.

The company are moving 15 miles away down the busiest stretch of motorway for miles around so I've started to look for something else

I've sent about 80 cv's and covering letters out but I'm struggling to find part time secretarial work so I think I may have to start looking for something else

Just looking for ideas? This has been my only full time job as I'm 28 so apart from a shop I can't think of anything - not that I'm adverse to working in a shop!

Community Care Worker - I used to be a Legal Secretary (BK - before kids).

SparePants · 29/08/2013 23:33

I'm a school librarian and work 3 days a week term-time only. Totally love it. It's not a profession I'd recommend getting into though as we're all being made friggin redundant under this government.

FreudiansSlipper · 29/08/2013 23:40

Integrative Psychotherapist

so another therapist :) but i do not work for the nhs

also furthering my studies so hours are pretty much full time

breadandbutterfly · 29/08/2013 23:48

Chief Examiner. Not sure how many hours I spend but timing totally flexible. If I end up working evenings or weekends it's because I've been on MN during the day...

FunnyRunner · 29/08/2013 23:48

Writer. The hours vary from easy hour or two a day in lulls to full on 12 hour madness as deadlines loom - but I LOVE the flexibility and not having to commute.

TwelveLeggedWalk · 29/08/2013 23:54

I work for myself. I'm working now, so I don't think i've really got 'part-time' cracked Grin

AngryGnome · 30/08/2013 06:18

I work 3 days a week in university management. Very few part time positions at my grade in my field, and I only have this arrangement because I was FT pre-ds and had to fight for a flexible working request to be accepted.

WithASpider · 30/08/2013 11:01

Communication Support. I work 12 hours a week supporting the Deaf Operations Manager and head of HR.

NoisesOff · 30/08/2013 11:16

Clinical psychologist.

frostyfingers · 30/08/2013 11:27

15 miles (or 30 daily) isn't that much, I'm not sure I'd start looking for another job just for that reason.....Do you do your 16 hours in two sessions or is it a couple every day - in which case it would be worth moving!?

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 30/08/2013 11:31

I don't see a 15 mile commute as much either, surely thats about a 20-30minute drive. Takes me an hour to get to work.

RamsgateMummy · 30/08/2013 11:43

I am an accountant, 14 hrs in the office and 7hrs from home. I travel an hour each way on 2 motorways, but I asked if I could start and finish at a certain time so I miss the really heavy traffic, perhaps your firm will allow that...worth an ask as you are a long serving member of staff.

outtolunchagain · 30/08/2013 11:44

Deputy head of finance for a charity.Have annualised hours contract ,roughly averages at 21 hours a week but in practice works out more !

GrumpyKat · 30/08/2013 11:46

Teach music for the lea. Three days a week, term time only.

LydiasLunch · 30/08/2013 11:46

Childminder. I work 7-9am every day, and after school until 6pm. I also have one who comes every day 9-12 and one who does two full days. So I still have a couple of free afternoons. I only do term time.

Finance analyst, but I've just upped my hours to increase my chances of promotion, so probably not the best example of a successful part time worker.

Wild a 15mile motorway commute be that bad?

Idreamofsunshine · 30/08/2013 11:51

Work in civil service - 26 hours over 4 days and have the summer hols off. I am very lucky.

googietheegg · 30/08/2013 11:54

Tattva · 30/08/2013 11:56

TA in a primary - 30 hrs

Good luck with the application. School hours and hols would be excellent.

BellaVita · 30/08/2013 12:07

Doubtfuldaphne · 30/08/2013 12:16

Transcribing audio documents from home for a secretarial company. Sounds like it would be right up your street!
