I've been a secretary for a company for nearly ten years now and work 16 hours per week since my maternity leave ended.

The company are moving 15 miles away down the busiest stretch of motorway for miles around so I've started to look for something else

I've sent about 80 cv's and covering letters out but I'm struggling to find part time secretarial work so I think I may have to start looking for something else

Just looking for ideas? This has been my only full time job as I'm 28 so apart from a shop I can't think of anything - not that I'm adverse to working in a shop!

Family Outreach Worker at a children & family centre. 18.5 days a week. Fantastic job which I love and they're very flexible & understanding but the pay is pretty shit so you may struggle if you need to pay for all your chilldcare.

MumOfAPickle · 29/08/2013 22:42

Hours a week!!

Weegiemum · 29/08/2013 22:44

I'm a teacher but now work as a literacy tutor for a small charity doing basic skills training for young mums. I do 4x classes a week, term time only. I also volunteer a day a week at a local project providing second-hand furniture to aim lies in need via my church.

cleoowen · 29/08/2013 22:47

Freelance teacher.

TiredFeet · 29/08/2013 22:47

solicitor, but in a local authority.

but... it was a full time role that I applied for and I was just cheeky and asked if I could do part time hours instead, to start with they agreed 4 days a week but after 6 months or so they agreed to drop again to 3.5 days.

there's lots of flexibility in the hours too, I can shift around start / finish times and also do some of the work from home in the evenings as appropriate

pay is rubbish compared to what I could earn in the private sector but for me it is a compromise worth making

Runwayqueen · 29/08/2013 22:53

Airfield operations duty officer

30hrs over 3 set days. Quite tiring as its shifts ranging from 4am starts to 4am finishes but a very rewarding job if you like aviation

MillyStar · 29/08/2013 22:54

Thanks ladies you have given me a lot to think about!

I've just been on the councils website and found three days a week admin in a primary school term time, that would be absolutely perfect for me, applications close on Monday so I will be having a wine free weekend making sure my application is a good one!

I'm an engineer, and work 3 days, but I have always had to start a new job full time and then apply for flexible working. There are no part time jobs in engineering!

Absolutelylost · 29/08/2013 22:56

Have just secured one day at home, but more due to technology advancing

MrsGaryKielhofner · 29/08/2013 22:59

I'm an electrician. Some of my customers have been very happy to have me back on contract work, negotiated days to suit both parties.

SeaSickSal · 29/08/2013 23:28

OP there are loads of medical typist jobs available which you normally just need a fast typing speed to get. You normally need to register with an agency for them. I have had several part time contracts. You can also get an OCR qualification which is for medical typing.

EvaBeaversProtege · 29/08/2013 23:29
