Babygrows aren't pyjamas!

... so are fine to be worn during the day!

Two-piece "outfits" just look so uncomfortable on a newborn. Waistbands? Elastic? They have no waist! They ride up and I find babies awkward to handle in "proper clothes."

I recall ex-SIL pointed out a 'dressed' baby at a party, in jeans and trainers (2 months old) and went on and on that I'd brought mine out in PJs.

DM made similar comment today about my youngest. She's not even three weeks! What's wrong with vests and rompers until they at least have a waist?!

Vests and rompers and babygros should (imho) be worn for as long as poss.
They're cute and comfy and snuggly.
Dd has a drawer full of unworn beautiful, impracticle clothes bought by kind friends. I love my babies in babygros.
Yanbu.

McNewPants2013 · 18/08/2013 19:53

Of course babies have a waist.

Baby grows are sleepwear and as babies sleep alot then mine was always in them and got dressed when going to a party

woopsidaisy · 18/08/2013 19:55

YANBU!!
I do babygros until they can crawl, when they can be a bit slippy.
I don't mind a body suit and dungaree combo in jersey, but really mine were all in babygros for 6/7 months, at least.
They look so comfy, and you can get smarter ones for day wear.

I simply cannot bear to see babies in jeans etc. I never used any of the designer ones I was given.

I think vests and rompers are fine, I hate seeing tiny people in jeans, they aren't comfy for sleeping in, which babies and toddlers do on and off during the day, so why make them uncomfortable? My ds had some soft cotton trousers and long sleeved t shirts for when we met people out that he wore from 4/6 months, but they were pretty much pyjamas too?

pianodoodle · 18/08/2013 19:55

YANBU

Until DD was about 4 months we just had a two plastic boxes - one for vests, and one for babygros. Just pluck one out of each box and sorted!

Couldn't be arsed faffing about with "real" clothes until she got bigger Grin

WinkyWinkola · 18/08/2013 19:56

Babygros are lovely for the first 2 years, I find. Day and night. Soft, snugly, comfy...........Perfect for babies all the time.

Plus babie sleep a lot so interchangeable wear is important. Ignore your sil op. she's a bit regimented.

jimijack · 18/08/2013 19:56

fuck em, seriously fuck em all & their daft opinions.

Mine lived in baby grows till at least 5 months. Now this summer he lives in all in one rompers or vests that have short sleeves. I did try actual clothes but they are as you describe.

I make no apologies, and give no explanations. My baby, my choice.

DangerousBeanz · 18/08/2013 19:57

My DD hated anything but babygros until she was about 8 months, old, I bought lovely one with matching jackets and she looked really cute and was lovely and warm and comfy. IMHO you are really sensible and your SIL should wind her neck in. YADNBU

Yonihadtoask · 18/08/2013 19:58

Babygros are perfect for babies. Day or night.

Soft, cuddly, no ironing required..

pianodoodle · 18/08/2013 19:59

Just thinking about it we probably used babygros as day wear for a lot longer Than 4 months!

JADS · 18/08/2013 19:59

YAsoNBU

Ds was is babygros in the day til 6 months. He was dinky so it was less obvious. Saw a baby of that age in a babygro and cardi at the playground today and I thought how lovely it was.. She was the youngest of 3 though so I wonder if that makes a difference

MillyStar · 18/08/2013 19:59

My dd wore only baby grows till she was three months old and she wore them probably 3 days a week till she was about ten months,

I used to put her in ones off the hanger in the day then 'pyjama' ones out of multipacks for bed

We love at my parents house at the mo and every day when my mum came in from work she used to say oohhh mummy has got you in pyjamas again!!

I can't stand little babies in proper clothes

mamalovebird · 18/08/2013 19:59

Maybe it's because they're called sleepsuits these days.

I dressed ds in little outfits on the days I had the time to change him before going out. Other days he went out in his babygro. Same with dd, although I tend to dress her in long sleeved vest and little leggings and babygros to sleep in. She looks comfy in either to me.

I can't say I really care what people dress their kids in. Babies are just cute, babygro or outfit. Whatever you fancy.

Charlie01234 · 18/08/2013 20:00

Both mine wore babygros til they were about 8 months old. Practical comfortable and very very cute. Hate seeing babies all trussed up in 'real clothes'.

harrietlichman · 18/08/2013 20:00

My HV told me (with DS1) that I had to dress him in 'proper clothes' during the day so that he would get into a routine. She was an idiot, but I thought I had to do as I was told. DS2 was in babygro for ages, perfect attire!

melliebobs · 18/08/2013 20:00

Dd lived in sleepsuits till 4 months or so. And even then if she wore an outfit n it got messy it was strait into a sleepsuit. They are easy, comfy, and look nice Smile

pianodoodle · 18/08/2013 20:00

Newborns really don't like having clothes hauled on and off much either (well mine didn't anyway)

Adding socks tights and what not at that age would have been hard work!

Ethlinn · 18/08/2013 20:01

DS lived in babygros and vests until he was at least four months old. Comfy, cosy, not awkward for a nappy change. He did seem very underdressed in comparison to other babies though. But I think there's plenty of time for them to be wearing grown up clothes in the future. I still only dress him in comfy cotton clothes, no jeans or other bizarre things.

McNewPants2013 · 18/08/2013 20:02

It's newborn girls in frilly dresses with matching socks and frilly knickers that look the most uncomfortable.

dopeysheep · 18/08/2013 20:02

Original Onesies! Totally agree with the OP babygros rule.

mrspaddy · 18/08/2013 20:03

I am planning on using vests and babygro's. The main point here is people are too pass remarkable.. your baby .. your way. SIL/DM should keep flippant comments to themselves.

There are bigger things in the world for them to worry about

BeauNatt · 18/08/2013 20:03

We used babygros/onesies as long as possible - they're easy to take on/off, and newborns often require many outfit changes a day!

I'd say if I put my 10mo in a babygro now I would see it as sleepwear though, she crawls/cruises/stands so that might be the tipping point iyswim.

YANBU anyway!

jimijack · 18/08/2013 20:04

What's more, you Chuck em into washer then dryer or out on the line then put them back on. Simple easy and no fuss, just what you need with a wee one. You have enough to do.

MrsBucketxx · 18/08/2013 20:04

It wouldnt bother me either way. I liked dressing mine in proper clothes for outings there is just too much choice not too.

When babies are tiny sleep suits are fine.
