The box at the side of the screen on the right, saying Discussions of the day, sometimes there are another ten or so topics on there, when I go to click something of interest it disappears. How to I make it show the whole list of discussions of the day ?

I must be doing something wrong. Or not doing something to make the list show ?

Hello, welcome Smile
If you click on active threads (top left hand side under the menu bar) It shows you the last 25 or so active threads

Armadale · 17/08/2013 18:49

The list in the blue box is just 5 chosen discussions, and the 5 most active currently, which changes minute to minute

purple15 · 17/08/2013 18:51

Right, I get it, if they change minute to minute.

I always see something that catches my eye, try to click then cant find it.

So if I click active and search through the list it should be there.

Thanks.

All you need is Chat and AIBU anyway Grin

Welcome to the hotel calafornia

BeCool · 17/08/2013 18:54

There are loads of great topics.
Active good place to start for a mix.
Threads I'm on very useful.

Welcome Smile

RustyBear · 17/08/2013 18:54

When a new page is loading, the Discussions of the Day and Most Active lists usually show as one list - as the page loads they separate into two tabbed lists - is this what you're seeing?

Oh, and Active Conversations doesn't have to be just 25 threads - you can go into customise and change it - I have 100 on mine.

BeCool · 17/08/2013 18:54

Check up on the Acronyms - link somewhere up top.

Armadale · 17/08/2013 19:23

You can choose to hide certain topics from your active list too, so you get a list more tailored to the sort of topics you read. Change in settings.

Incidentally, AIBU is not really the calmest place to start Grin,

The most useful thing no-one told me about for ages is that you can choose to turn on 'bookmarks' in your settings. This means if you are reading a long thread, or have been commenting on it a thread and want to see what other people have written after you, you can hover over the last post you have read and the word bookmark appears on the right hand side of the post and if you click it, then the next time you go to that thread, the computer magically takes you to where you left off reading even if it is 4 pages into a thread which is now 6 long!

Libertine73 · 17/08/2013 19:27

Shit does it Armadale ? Well, I never knew that!

Armadale · 17/08/2013 19:51

Yep, when you last read a thread up to page 9 and its now on page 17, you really wish someone had bothered to tell you about it earlier....

BelieveinWigan · 17/08/2013 23:43

How do you link on the iPad app?!?

Nagoo · 17/08/2013 23:52

and highlight the OP and yourself helps too :)

welcome :)

Nagoo · 17/08/2013 23:55

www.blah de blah but no spaces.

I don't use the app. The emoticons offend me, and there's no Cake.

BelieveinWigan · 17/08/2013 23:56

Thanks!!!

purple15 · 18/08/2013 08:12

ARMADALE - where do I find the bookmark link, I have gone into customise and can see loads of information, but not bookmark ?

OP posts:
RustyBear · 18/08/2013 10:39

You have to be using the Mumsnet New style to use bookmarks - also it won't work if you're using Internet Explorer 6 or older (though if you are,you should update for other reasons anyway!). The link is down towards the bottom of the customise page.

CorrineFoxworth · 18/08/2013 10:43

You do get previews for a second under discussions of the day. Took me years to work that out I could find them under Active!

DiaryOfAWimpyMum · 18/08/2013 10:48

I've always used 'active convos' and sometimes if I get very bored I head into discussion of the day or most active.

AIBU is not the only subject title either

I miss MN pre-AIBU tbh

Oh and hello! Smile

BeCool · 18/08/2013 12:17

I just learned about the brilliant bookmarks this year. I've been here since 2008 Hmm

DoItTooJulia · 18/08/2013 12:22

I know what you are talking about. Sometimes when I load a new thread DOTD is weird. It's like I can also see the most active too. But if you click on one, you end up clicking on the advert....

You just need to give it a minute to settle down I think.

purple15 · 19/08/2013 08:23

Still not sure about the bookmark.

I thought I had found it in Customise, I turned it on then added to a post.
This morning, I checked the post and thought I would just see the posts after the one I added, but I had to look at all 41 post.

What am I doing wrong ?

OP posts:
FruOla · 19/08/2013 08:43

Did you look at the thread you had bookmarked before you logged in? If you're just lurking on threads, without logging in, your bookmark won't show up, so you need to log in, click on the thread title and the bookmark will automatically take you to the last post you bookmarked.

Also, there appear to be a few glitches, now and then, with book marking in _Chat threads at the moment.

Armadale · 19/08/2013 09:34

If you just add something to a thread, it won't automatically bookmark that place- you need to hover over the rhs of any message and a little box saying 'bookmark' will appear- if you click on the box it will then say 'saved' and take you back to that place next time- oh, and you need to click on the thread title- if you are in 'threads i'm on' which displays the thread titles and the most recent posts- clicking on one of the most recent posts will take you to that post, whereas clicking on the title will take you to your bookmark

FruOla · 19/08/2013 09:44

You explained that much better than I did Armadale Grin, actually I've only just got that purple might not have bookmarked it in the first place.

insancerre · 19/08/2013 09:48
Cake when did we get Cake? and why? I am well know for my powers of non-observation
