the girls singing the song at the end.

especially the girl who was a carer to her mother and helped with childcare and couldn't afford the concert ticket.

aibu, made me cry a little.

The 19 year old really needs to grow up.

grants1000 · 15/08/2013 23:15

I had a wall like that full of Duran Duran, totally convinced John Taylor would marry meGrin

RumAndBoak · 15/08/2013 23:17

Possibly the most depressing thing I have ever watched, I don't even know where to start!

Those poor lads and their families- the pressure on them is insane.

The girls have just left me aghast, the entitled attitudes, the devotion, the sheer intensity of their obsession is tragic. I have 2 dd's and I cannot imagine enabling an obsession like that, it makes me want to cancel the sodding broadband!

I know it is just a heavily edited programme with a possible play to the cameras knowing 1d would watch it but fuck me, where is their drive for a real, live and happy life?
Jesus!

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 15/08/2013 23:18

I was convinced I'd marry Mark Owen from Take That, thank god that never happened.

RumAndBoak · 15/08/2013 23:19

I wasn't a take that girl, maybe that's why I found it so shocking!

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 15/08/2013 23:23

I've been to a few Take That concerts since they got back together. It's brilliant.

Saying that, by the time they split up I'd moved on to Radiohead ha ha.

That Larry stuff is disturbing.

intheshed · 15/08/2013 23:26

Aww I felt sorry for them. Though I remember years ago watching a programme about girls who followed really shit boybands like Five and Bad Boys inc, so at least the quality of boy bands has improved! not a secret Harry fan, oh no not me

thebody · 15/08/2013 23:29

see my dds , 13 and 14 were disgusted but then they are both,to be honest, pretty and popular.

these girls weren't and agree the 19 year old was wacky but I still felt very sorry for the carer girl.

my dsis was mad on Donny Osmond and saved her school dinner money to go to America.

it lasted 2 days as she loves her food and her maths isn't the best. 😄

In my day it was the Bay City Rollers . It was so much easier then. They were on TOTP once a week and on the cover of 'Jackie' every so often. If you were really lucky you'd get to see them in concert. That was it. No Twitter, 24 hr news, minute by minute Internet - nothing. I feel sorry for those kids.

SPsTotallyMullerFuckingLicious · 15/08/2013 23:47

I was in love with Alan Smith but even I weren't that mad.

UnknownGnome · 16/08/2013 00:00

My walls were full of New Kids on the Block and I've got a couple of video tapes full of interviews with them on tv shows like Going Live, The 8:15 From Manchester and Wogan!

I do remember being completely obsessed with them and i was convinced that if i could just meet them they'd all fall madly in love with me. I may have had conversations with my posters Blush

I was massively jealous of Tiffany for going out with Jon Knight (it's all coming back to me Grin ) but i never felt hatred for her like he girls on this programme. And what do you know...all these years later we now know she was his beard anyway Grin

SPsTotallyMullerFuckingLicious · 16/08/2013 00:03

girls who followed really shit boybands like Five

Shock Its 5ive and they weren't/arent shit! Leave them alone.

I dont need to be around such negativity. Still time for Scott to fall in love with me.

hectorslarry · 16/08/2013 00:10

The comment about the girls on the programme not being pretty or popular like your dds...not nice and not true. The 19 year old does need to grow up but I don't think she's the only one...

ImNotBloody14 · 16/08/2013 00:21
Confused

what do looks and popularity Hmm have to do with being a fan?

"The 19 year old really needs to grow up."

does that go for 27 aswell? Sad

I loves them I do. don't care what you all say Grin

and yes leave 5ive alone!

ddubsgirl · 16/08/2013 00:22

Unknowngnome doesn't matter about Tiffany anyway she's not his type lol!!!

ddubsgirl · 16/08/2013 00:23

36 and still a nkotb fan :) have met them all camped out in 2008 outside hmv to see them

ImNotBloody14 · 16/08/2013 00:23

I also wailed when TT split up. gutted didn't even come close.

chinup2011 · 16/08/2013 00:59

What makes me most sad is the fact that they have shared their thoughts and it has been put on telly for everyone to say ' they need to grow up' etc. etc.
The whole programme made them look very obsessive and was embarrassing to watch.
How much of the programme was edited to make the viewer give a ' OMG' reaction.
I'm sure they are all lovely girls in RL.

Campari · 16/08/2013 04:00

Not keen on their songs, but I like Harry Styles' hair Blush

DrDance · 16/08/2013 04:09

wham for me....cut out all their pics from smash hits and just seventeen and cellotaped them to my ceiling

throughgrittedteeth · 16/08/2013 05:02

The Internet has caused this. When I was their age and IN LOVE with Ben from a1 all you had to go on was Smash Hits magazine and the occasional appearance on SMTV Live Grin
The Larry stuff was mental though and they were all so casual about it, like it was normal to have homoerotic fantasies about a boyband ever when you're 14.

Bea · 16/08/2013 08:00

Pretty and popular? Shock

Footface · 16/08/2013 08:10

They just seemed so naive and vulnerable. They had this romantic imagination of sitting backstage with Harry holding hands, while he declared his undying love to them.

I did feel sorry for then. The poor girl who got so excited about sitting next to zain's wax work was sad.

But I now sort of get the appeal of Harry!
