the girls singing the song at the end.

especially the girl who was a carer to her mother and helped with childcare and couldn't afford the concert ticket.

aibu, made me cry a little.

Are you on about the program that was on c4 last night? Was it suitable for a 9yr old? I dont particularly want to watch it but my dd is 1d mad but with it being on so late I thought it might be to adult?

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 16/08/2013 08:30

"The 19 year old really needs to grow up."
does that go for 27 as well

I still love Take That, I go to their concerts and have a great time. I love it!

However yes she does need to grow up. She's 19, she doesn't talk to boys because she thinks about one direction, she's sitting in her room surrounded rounded by posters obsessing over them and has a tattoo of song lyrics down her arm. At 19 I was at uni and had a boyfriend.

There's nothing wrong with being a fan and liking the music I'm not saying that. But at 19 a boy band shouldn't be the be all and end all of your life.

UnknownGnome · 16/08/2013 08:34

I don't think the level of hysteria is anything new; screaming, fainting girls have always followed boybands. I agree that the internet has intensified it all what with twitter etc.

The homoerotic thing seems new though. I'm not sure what that fantasy's all about.

It's funny that its mainly a girl thing. Why is that? Even with girlbands like The Spice Girls the main fanbase seems to be female.

wonderingsoul · 16/08/2013 08:38

i watched half of it...

i cant stand them.. dont see the big hype..

but you know what.... they are a boy band.. the girls love them.. their all pretty young (bar a few Wink)
i dont see hwo this puts them in a bad light.. their supposed to have crush's on popstars.. its about gorwing up.

though.. i can see some looking back when thier older and thinking omg lol.

JerseySpud · 16/08/2013 08:40

tbh i can remember being mad over Boyzone until i was about 12. Literally couldn't think of anything else.

I do look back and blush. But i think its a normal part of growing up

TiggyD · 16/08/2013 08:53

My fan goes in one direction. I think that's how they work.

duchessandscruffy · 16/08/2013 09:00

see my dds , 13 and 14 were disgusted but then they are both,to be honest, pretty and popular.
What the actual fuck does the fact that they are pretty and popular have to do with anything?
As a teenager I was a little bit obsessed with Robbie Williams and actually thought that we would meet and he would fall in love with me and we would get married. I was, of course, gorgeous and everyone loved me......!

Only saw a bit of the programme - what was the bit with the gay fantasies between them all about?!

OctopusPete8 · 16/08/2013 09:04

That sandra wasn't ugly most of
them werent ugly tbh, not sure what that has to do with it anyway.

The homo fantasy thing started with Harry Potter, I think.

i cringed at those girls traipsing round the hotel.

Sparrowlegs248 · 16/08/2013 09:05

I didn't see it but gay fantasies?!?! What?

Sparklingbrook · 16/08/2013 09:09

I started a thread too thebody. Grin Here

I found the whole thing quite disturbing and I had a major Duran Duran obsession.

mrsjay · 16/08/2013 09:09

if my dd was that obsessed id be confiscating her laptop they were fruitloops the lot of them and the fantasy gay thing is just weird I cant remember being that loopy over wham a band when i was there age

Sparklingbrook · 16/08/2013 09:11

What did the parents make of it watching that back I wonder?

jamdonut · 16/08/2013 09:23

Ok didn't see the programme, but I can guess.

I was never totally devoted to a pop star or a band in my teenage years, but I am about to be 49 and I am totally obsessed with knowing everything about Muse.

For the last 6 years, since I became aware of them, I listen to their albums all the time,I watch their tweets,I'm part of their fan-site, I go to their concerts whenever they are in the UK. But I don't fantasise about marrying them!!Don't think my husband would be very pleased about that! He just about tolerates my fan-girling as it is.He just says "You wouldn't have heard of them if I hadn't brought them to your attention!" Grin Yes, he likes them too,and comes to the concerts with me,but his dedication is not like mine Smile

However, it makes me feel as though I know them well, even though I've never got even close enough to see them "full size" ,so to speak...always from a seat up high! Still ,they are an amazing band!Looking forward to their 20th Anniversary year, in 2014....

Sparklingbrook · 16/08/2013 09:24

No jam don't guess. It is far worse than anything you can guess.

thebody · 16/08/2013 09:30

oops sorry re pretty and clever comment. far too much wine last night.😷 this morning they are fuckin annoying and noisy.

Grin thebody

thebody · 16/08/2013 09:33

thanks sparkling will look.

as said up thread I suppose the Internet and twitter with 24 hour news feeds have made things more intense.

OP posts:
FreyaSnow · 16/08/2013 09:37

The kids I know go around in single sex groups.

In fact a lot of the adults I know go around in single sex groups.

They just seemed like normal teenage girls with a crush.

Sparklingbrook · 16/08/2013 09:37

I have to police Minecraft and FIFA 13 time for my pre teen and teen boys. Do 1D parents have to police 'Being manic and scary about 1D' time for teen girls?

JerseySpud · 16/08/2013 09:38

I've now watched it.

And i am thanking my lucky fucking stars that my eldest is waaay too young at 6 to be into this shite.

Sparklingbrook · 16/08/2013 09:39

Aah but who knows what awful boyband will be around in 6 years time Jersey. Shock

thebody · 16/08/2013 09:42

oh god yes Jersey far far worse to come. 😄

mind you as said on chat( thanks sparkling) grown men obsess and follow football teams who are not even successful and don't win anything.

at least 1D are eye candy.

OP posts:
thebody · 16/08/2013 09:44

Freya, yes single sex until around 12 but around here anyway its usual to have lots of mates of both sexes in friendship groups. maybe it's because the local schools are huge mixed sex comps.

cushtie335 · 16/08/2013 09:44

The Larry stuff was mind boggling. Seriously weird. I was crazy for Pink Floyd and had crushes on both Roger Waters and David Gilmour (Gilmour was the most attractive "back in the day" but looks a bit lizardy now, Waters has just got better and better looking) but to have imagined the pair of them getting it on is giving me the dry boak!

mrsjay · 16/08/2013 09:46

my dd goes about with girls and boys dd is obsessed about batman and marvel so not quite 1D but i do have to tell her to shush sometimes as that is all she goes on about,
