I think the toilet seat is a bit of a decoy, of course it is quite clean, it gets cleaned with something like a spray cleaner/bleach/wiped down/vinegar whatever. That's what you should be doing with your hands when you've been to the toilet!!!!

The reason the chopping board is so full of bacteria is because of poor food hygiene but one doesn't cancel the other out, plus one really good reason to wash your hands before preparing food or after going to the toilet is to prevent virus transmission.

Do all those who think a bit of dirt on your hands does you good and actually strengthens the immune system feel the same should therefore be employed in hospitals, or are you prepared to concede that actually basic hygiene such as washing hands and cleaning the wards very thoroughly is one of the most effective ways of controlling infections? Would you be happy for your doctor or nurse to take the same cavalier attitude about hand-washing or washing their white coats?

I don't care if my kids are muddy and don't bathe daily, I don't cover them with soap/horrible shower gels all the time and I don't use air fresheners or other artificial stuff in the home if I can help it. But regular hand-washing is hardly in that category.

OnTheBottomWithAWomensWeekly · 15/08/2013 21:54

They do clean them, but not well enough. Same with sinks, fridges, knives, countertops...just because it looks clean doesn't mean it is.

Those of you so utterly convinced you are much cleaner (and, apparently, far superior Hmm ) probably have e-coli on your taps.

usualsuspect · 15/08/2013 21:54

I think you can get the plaque from wee germs.

ImNotBloody14 · 15/08/2013 22:00

how would I have e-coli on clean taps?

i'd still like to know why my son is likely to have asthma, whoever it was that said that.

DiamondDoris · 15/08/2013 22:03

Poo matter gets everywhere - it's on toothbrushes, it's in your kitchen, all over. There was a programme about it. So, with this fact in mind, not washing your hands after a quick wee (in your own home), isn't going to make much difference to hygiene. I thought wee was clean anyway? Can't you sterilize things with it?

DiamondDoris · 15/08/2013 22:05

Ray Mears turned his wee into water and then he washed with it.

WorraLiberty · 15/08/2013 22:07

I can honestly say I have never got up for a wee in the night and then washed my hands.

Unless of course I piss on my fingers...and I don't ever remember that happening.

I'm doomed aren't I? Sad

The wee germs are ganging up...just waiting to jump out and 'mace me' with a can of antibac, aren't they?

Oh what to do Sad

OnTheBottomWithAWomensWeekly · 15/08/2013 22:09

How do you know the taps are clean though, hey? Do you swab them for microbe content daily?
Fridges are another thing, totally filthy and swimming in germs.

pigletmania · 15/08/2013 22:14

Grim, I presume you wipe your Fanjo, so your hands will have Fanjo germs on, you have to flush the toilet, and your hands will have germs from that. Yabvvvvvu

ImNotBloody14 · 15/08/2013 22:15

because I clean them Hmm

those who don't wash hands- did you teach your dcs to wash hands when toilet training?

and it's not really just your own home you are keeping it to. you'll be touching money, pens, bags, coats etc that all leave your house, touching your mouth and face before kissing your dcs! touching your dishes and door handles that the rest of the family touch and spreading it everywhere they go.

OnTheBottomWithAWomensWeekly · 15/08/2013 22:17

I;m not sure you're listening. Yes, you clean them. Most of us clean our kitchens, to various standards. But the point being that the germs you are so obsessed with ARE STILL THERE even in your seemingly clean kitchen.
There are germs everywhere. Chill out a bit. Or wrap yourself in sterile bubble wrap if you prefer.

ImNotBloody14 · 15/08/2013 22:17

it's basic toilet hygiene to wash your hands after using the loo. it has been for a long long time, to pretend otherwise is just hilarious tbh. it doesn't make you a hardcore rebel Grin

FrankSpenser · 15/08/2013 22:18

I totally agree with Mumsyblouse.

You lot are clearly skanky feckers! Grin

ImNotBloody14 · 15/08/2013 22:18

who is obsessed with germs? Confused

washing your hands after the loo is an obsession now? riiiight...

OnTheBottomWithAWomensWeekly · 15/08/2013 22:21

no, banging on and on about poo germs being everywhere and how filthy other people are is the obsessed bit.

I always wash my hands. Most people do. But the hysteria here about "fanjo germs on your hands" and so on is just weird. And lacks perspective.

ImNotBloody14 · 15/08/2013 22:24

who said poo germs are everywhere and other people are filthy? wasn't me anyway.

if there are poo germs everywhere, it's most likely down to people not washing their hands after the loo. unless you're saying there aren't poo germs everywhere?

usualsuspect · 15/08/2013 22:25

Lol at fanjo germs.

edam · 15/08/2013 22:29

I know a GP, who is very respected, who stood up at a ruddy conference and cheerfully admitted he doesn't wash his hands after pee-ing. On the rather daft grounds that 'urine is sterile'. It may be as it leaves your body, but his fecking penis is NOT sterile, nor are his fingers, nor the many other surfaces he will touch on his way into and out of the loo. Dirty beggar.

No wonder it took the medical profession so many decades to accept that doctors not washing their hands was one of the major causes of death in the 19th Century... and there are still disgusting docs today, it seems.

OnTheBottomWithAWomensWeekly · 15/08/2013 22:30

Most people don't wash their hands properly either, so if you really think your hands are utterly coated in poo germs several times a day, I hope you're learned how to wash your hands correctly....

ImNotBloody14 · 15/08/2013 22:32

I have thanks- my mum's a theatre midwife and had it drummed into me from before I was verbal how to wash my hands

FrankSpenser · 15/08/2013 22:34

Oh, I'm well aware about poo particles being sprayed through the bathroom/house because of the flush, and I'm A-OK with that because it can't be helped. Meh...

I don't take the stance then to not wash hands after peeing because of this, though. We do what we can,to the best of our abilities. Washing hands is not a trek through the mountains. It takes 10 seconds to lather up an anti bac soap (if that's your fancy) through your fingers, and then dry. What's the problem? unless you're a lazy fecker...

Mumsyblouse · 15/08/2013 22:38

I must admit I am not so worried about the people who don't wash their hands after a wee. I do wash mine, but that's because I take every opportunity to wash my hands anyway now after reading the evidence on how washing hands lots prevents colds/viruses. But I think wee is sterile? But I don't believe all the people who don't have a quick wash for a wee suddenly get the soap out and start scrubbing after a poo and now that really is disgusting.

It's not obsessive to wash after going to the toilet, it was good sanitation (moving from throwing your crap into the street to having toilets with minimal contact with it) that has been responsible for a decrease in diseases in the developed world- this is not controversial stuff and whilst you can be too clean about some things, faecal matter on your hands probably isn't one of them.

usualsuspect · 15/08/2013 22:40

I wash my hands mostly in the day but I never do at night.

Am I a lazy fucker? Probably, do I care, nope.

I think.DP can cope with a few fanjo germs when I get back into bed.

OnTheBottomWithAWomensWeekly · 15/08/2013 22:40

nobody said it was obsessive to wash their hands, neither is anyone saying that other sources of germs means that you should not wash your hands, merely that people need to get some perspective, assess risk properly, and stop with the silliness.

ImNotBloody14 · 15/08/2013 22:44

those who don't wash hands- dis you teach your dcs to wash hands after using the toilet when toilet training?

what is the obsession if not washing hands then? you said I was obsessed. what with
