It's absolutely vile isn't it.
I just don't get how you can not want to soap your feet at least once a day. Jesus there are people without access to soap and running water who would love the luxury of a good wash - I think it's of the nicest everyday things there is. Nowt as queer as folk though I guess. Some people aren't right into cleaning their teeth either are they

teenagetantrums · 20/08/2013 20:21

I wash my feet when I have a bath or a shower

But to be honest I never wash my hands are going to the toilet, I know its lazy and bad but to be honest my parents never told me I should. However I always wash my hands before I start to cook and none of us ever get sick so I think its all good.

Presumably you are a grown woman...? And realise that this is really not a valid excuse for being manky?

StephenFrySaidSo · 20/08/2013 21:38

teenage have you never been in a bathroom somewhere and seen a sign reminding you to wash your hands? did you never think "hmm, might give that a try"?

it's actually really odd to hear an adult saying they don't do something as basic as that because their mummy never told them they had to! surely it must have occurred to you since leaving home that the people in public bathrooms washing their hands must be doing it for a reason?

This thread is hysterical ...some people need to stop worrying so much ...(unless you have someone immune supressed etc)

Washing hands in public toilets/ hospitals etc is important because you are being subjected to a wider range of 'germs' -they have come from a wide number of people ...

The only germs in your house really are those belonging to you/your family ...(assuming no/few visitors) so unless anyone in your family has a stomach upset you are pretty safe not washing your hands...

For those worried about germs getting onto toothbrushes/ splashing loo seats etc - I had salmonella - admittedly I did try to do good handwashing - but suspect that after almost 24 hours crapping water every 30 mins or so, sleep deprived and weak - my standards may have dropped slightly -but no-one I shared a flat with got it ...

Out of interest - wash your hands with anti bac soap and put it on a petri dish and leave it to grow (sealed) - there will be fewer bacteria present - but shock - there will still be some!

Things like threadworms - they are so easy to transfer if one of your dcs have them you are just as likely to get them from inhalation etc...

I would say you were more in danger of getting ill from not washing your hands after touching the lid of a food waste bin that hasn't been cleaned for a week in your kitchen...than by not washing your hands after a wee....

Just remember - anything that comes out of your bottom went in through your mouth!

(Just if they survived going through you they are more likely to make you ill - and will probably be in larger nos)

Finally do you wash your hands after touching money? - that is really gross stuff ...has been handled by lots and lots of people ...
(after having to count it - especially lots of notes - it stinks... coins smell metallic but less unpleasant than notes...lots of notes together smell (to me) of stale sweat....)

Ladies, always remember to wipe from front to back, not from back to front. Very important for the nonny region!

"The only germs in your house really are those belonging to you/your family ...(assuming no/few visitors) so unless anyone in your family has a stomach upset you are pretty safe not washing your hands..."

and what about when you leave the house to go to work/the shops/visit your mum? you're carrying those germs with you and handing them over to everyone you touch or share a door handle with. not very considerate really- what if they are immune suppressed and you don't know?

"Things like threadworms - they are so easy to transfer if one of your dcs have them you are just as likely to get them from inhalation etc..."
which is the whole point of washing hands! I cannot believe how ignorant this comment is!

unlucky83 · 21/08/2013 01:12

I didn't say never wash your hands - and the point is that if no-one in your family is sick - there are no 'bad' germs to transferred...and as I said there are germs on your hands even AFTER washing with antibac soap - just less than there would be if you never washed them...

Threadworms - someone mentioned catching them from one egg on a flush up thread (actually think about it - you would need more than one egg to get an infection going anyway....)
Once your DC has got them - probably from biting their finger nails/ sucking their thumb etc - from another small DC whose parents don't realise and haven't cleaned their DCs finger nails with a nail brush in the morning - (because of course every time we wash our hands we use a nail brush don't we?) and before we realise DC has them there will be eggs every where -
Washing your hands before eating and never putting your hands in your mouth is the best way to protect yourself - so not necessarily after going to the loo - but anyway you will probably have inhaled them as you folded their PJ trousers/ they are getting dressed...or drank them as they floated into your morning coffee ...you really have more to worry about than one stray egg on a flush...

littlemog · 21/08/2013 10:25

Oh dear God. Leaving this thread as I genuinely cannot believe that it is a real debate.

I refuse to believe that there are people as filthy as this in the world. It is just internet bravado surely?

AmazingBouncingFerret · 21/08/2013 10:58

I genuinely cannot believe it's still going on.

Rest assured I gave skanky cow the OP some antibacterial hand gel stuff earlier this week so at least she's halfway there...

Punkatheart · 21/08/2013 13:23

It's certainly a worry for someone like me with cancer and a compromised immune system. It makes me a bit sad that people genuinely cannot think about other people. But also, it is just such an automatic reflex that when you deal with matters of your own bottom, you wash your hands.
