I obviously wash my hands after going in a public toliet, but at home I don't mind because I don't touch anything except the loo roll aibu?

OP posts:
Crumbledwalnuts · 18/08/2013 22:44

There was a thing where they put a cctv in public toilets. They found that women ALWAYS wash their hands after the loo when another woman is there.

When they're alone - not so.

Crumbledwalnuts · 18/08/2013 22:45

er can I just say I wash my hands

apart from anything else I always touch the lid to put it down to flush so that wee spray flush doesn't go on the toothbrushes etc

Crumbledwalnuts · 18/08/2013 22:46

even in the loos at work, even if it's a unisex loo

quite disgusting, you do feel the need to scrub for quite some time

Got to love all the "it takes seconds" smug folks being just as germ riddled as those they are complaining about!

Sounds like people who wash their hands quickly are being called smug there. Hmmm.

elQuintoConyo · 18/08/2013 22:56

MINGERAMA!

Don't come near my Cake !

If it is the middle of the night, I don't "wash" either, I use anti-bac stuff: squirt, rub, job done. For both poopsies and weewees.

During the day, I wash with soap and water like other hygienic people when they touch their bumbum or feefee.

OnTheBottomWithAWomensWeekly · 18/08/2013 23:19

Sounds wrong then, since thats not what it says. Ill explain, since youre confused. The post was laughing at those who thought themselves superior to none handwashers because "it only takes twenty seconds to do it, you mingers" .
If you only wash your hands for twenty seconds, you might as well not have bothered, youve got almost as kuch on your hands as those that didnt.

Trazzletoes · 19/08/2013 02:39

Someone up- thread suggested/asked about alcohol hand gel being more effective. It's not. When DS is isolated in hospital we have to use soap and water - they take away the hand gel in the isolation rooms so people aren't tempted to use it instead - as alcohol gel doesn't kill bugs like C. difficile. At least the stuff they use in hospital doesn't.

While it seems most people's immune systems can cope with it, it's not a bug i would choose to get. But it's ok because I wash my hands properly after using the toilet and changing my DCs nappies.

harverina · 19/08/2013 08:48

But surely even the 20 second hand washers will get some of the germs off their hands during the 20 second wash, especially if using anti bac hand wash?! Not saying its enough, but better than nothing surely!

Punkatheart · 19/08/2013 08:53

Also - please remember that you may be spreading germs to people with a compromised immune system - like me. Trazzle has made an excellent point - hand gel is not the saviour of the world.

LadyBryan · 19/08/2013 09:06

My god the outrage here is something to be believed Grin

I always wash hands in a public loo. I always wash hands after doing a poo/helping DD in the loo. I don't always wash hands after a wee. I get shocking exzema on my fingers and repeated washing/drying exacerbates. So sorry, I don't bother to wash when I've been for a wee.

And we don't always flush following a wee either

Waits for outrage to hit red alert

diddl · 19/08/2013 09:16

Good grief!

I don't think anyone thinks of hand gel as a "saviour of the world"!!??

I mentioned it above as people were going on about touching germy taps.

I should hope that people using hospital facilities due to visiting patients are extra vigilant!

Trazzletoes · 19/08/2013 10:57

diddl but its not just when he's in hospital. He's at risk of infection all the time. I was just explaining that alcohol gel is not a complete replacement for soap and water. It's good. I use it a lot. But it's better to wash your hands under a tap if you have the option.

littlemog · 19/08/2013 11:01

Who actually knew that there were so many filthy skanks in the world? And so overly defensive about their dirtiness too!

Pretty funny really.

diddl · 19/08/2013 11:03

No, of course-I knew you'd come back & say that.

But I mentioned the antic bac stuff in a home environment to prevent touching dirty taps-where it might be good enough.

Ideally of course, everyone should wash their hands properly after the toilet.

Not to mention coughing/sneezing into a tissue, etc.

FetaCheeny · 19/08/2013 13:52

Bit late to this but I have a really genuine question...
If you wipe your bum after a wee or poo, and your hands remain clean (use plenty of toilet paper) you then touch the flush (which has germs on) and your hands are dirty.
You go to the sink and touch the TAP and make the tap dirty, so even if you always washed your hands after going to the toilet, your hands will be just as dirty from the tap, as the person who touched the flush but didn't wash their hands? and I mean this from the perspective of women who don't touch their bodily parts in order to wee.
By the way I do wash my hands, but have never understood the hysteria around it.

Trazzletoes · 19/08/2013 14:04

Feta one hand to wipe and flush. One hand to turn the tap on. So the tap stays clean. At least, that's the way it works in my house...

SPBisResisting · 19/08/2013 14:07

Also viruses and germs don't last long on metal surfaces do they? So they would apply to the flush and the tap.
TBH I'm sure if I really thought about it I'd decide the risks were fairly minimal. I wash my hands thoroughly because they thenfeel clean!

FetaCheeny · 19/08/2013 14:09

Ahh I see, thanks :)

I'm not ambidextrous!

MadeOfStarDust · 19/08/2013 14:50

viruses do not last long on dry metal surfaces - on dirty wet ones they will breed like anywhere else wet and dirty.... and just because one person uses one hand for flush/wipe and the other for tap does not mean everyone does... or do you have your own toilet, for sole use...

Trazzletoes · 19/08/2013 15:08

No but there are 4 people in my house, including me. 2 of them wash their hands under my supervision. 1 is me. DH agrees with me that its sensible so that's what happens.

littlemog · 19/08/2013 15:38

Also germs get through loo roll!

littlemog · 19/08/2013 15:40

And one poster was bragging very proud about the fact that she used 3 sheets for a wee and 4 sheets for a poo.

It can't be just me that thinks that this is a woeful amount of loo roll surely?

Libertine73 · 19/08/2013 15:53

Is this still going?!
