Are we to assume that all of you who are so fastidious about germs also sit in a bucket of Milton for 20 minutes before participating in oral sex?

Or any sex for that matter?

Well it is Friday night Grin

sex? what's that? Confused

Crowler · 16/08/2013 17:39

When I pee at home, I don't wash my hands. I pee so frequently I can't be bothered (lifetime bladder issues!). I can see the problems with it, but I can't get worked up about it.

I always wash my hands before food prep or touching my kids' face or similar.

I also have developed a habit of flushing the toilet with my pinky finger, since it's the least used.

littlemog · 16/08/2013 20:19

I have just googled and read that faecal germs can pass through 10 sheets of loo roll. I thought that everyone knew that germs can pass through the paper on to hands and that washing hands after using the loo is a bare minimum of hygiene. This thread has proved me wrong.

Upthread KellyHopter said that all of the non handwashing MN skanks would soon be along to defend their dirty habits and, sure enough, you have all appeared.

To the poster who found it hilarious that her child said that if you have to wash your hands after using the loo you're not doing it right.....er, that may have been an opportune moment to explain to your child that germs are invisible so you MUST wash your hands. Although amazingly most of the non-handwashers on here seem to agree with you.

As for people who change nappies and then don't bother to wash their hands...WTF?

Some of these threads about hygiene on MN really gross me out but I do realise that the dirty folk are probably in the minority (although it is a loud one) and that most people are actually pretty clean I hope

usualsuspect · 16/08/2013 20:51

MN 'I'm cleaner than you' threads make me laugh.

Oh and step away from Google.

FrankSpenser · 16/08/2013 20:54

Tongues had me weeping! Oh dear. Grin

There's nowt more queer than folk.

ImNotBloody14 · 16/08/2013 21:03

interestingly (or not) it's the "i'm dirtier than you" threads that make me laugh! Grin

usualsuspect · 16/08/2013 21:04

The germs ,the germs!

shufflehopstep · 16/08/2013 22:28

Oh grow up. There's nothing clean-freakish about maintaining basic hygiene standards. I'm not obsessed with germs (anyone who's seen my house can vouch for that) but I always wash my hands when I've been to the loo, changed my baby's nappy, patted the dog, put anything in the bin, or cleaned the worktops in the kitchen. Germs are indeed everywhere so surely it's in our best interests to hinder their spread rather than help it?

I hope I don't know any of you lot who walk around your homes with pissy hands personally.

Libertine73 · 16/08/2013 22:31

OK OK going to the loo=hand wash, no that's not freakish, but patting the dog? wiping down the worktops and putting anything in the bin then hand washing seems a touch freakish to me.

ouryve · 16/08/2013 22:34
Biscuit

You might want to select carefully. I had a shit and didn't wash my hands before opening the packet, OP. That's OK, though, since I only touched the toilet paper.

phantomnamechanger · 16/08/2013 22:39

I've just remembered an incident from back in the 80s - I would be about 12 and we stopped off in an unfamiliar town when off on holiday and went to a bakery to get pasties for lunch

the assistant bent and ran her fingers round inside her sandal, then without washing her hands went to serve our food

when dad challenged she just about tutted and rolled her eyes

we left without the items

I've also seen a waitress enter a loo with a new tampon in hand and leave the cubicle and not wash her hands - OK she may have washed them back in the kitchen but what about all the doors etc she would touch on the way.

ImNotBloody14 · 16/08/2013 22:40

the only one in shuffle's list that i dont really wash hands after is when i've wiped the counter because the cloth is coming out of bleach and then being rinsed in hot water and put back into bleach so I don't really feel like my hands are dirty.

but petting the dog? definitely, aswell as feeding him, handling his lead or his toys.

and putting stuff in the black bin outside? yes but not the tiny bin under the kitchen sink.

I also wash them when I come back in the house after being out in asda or other shops. my hands just feel grubby so I wash them.

phantomnamechanger · 16/08/2013 22:42

of course you should always wash your hands after handling pets - there are numerous parasites and viruses/things you can catch regardless of their own arse-licking hygiene methods, then again, some people sleep with their pets in their beds and let them lick their faces- boak!

Pigsmummy · 16/08/2013 22:45

I think that you are sweetly naive about how much bacteria your foo, toilet, flush, taps and knickers contain.

shufflehopstep · 16/08/2013 22:47

Washing hands after patting the dog is freakish? Do you have a dog? They're smelly, have no personal hygiene whatsoever (would probably fit right in on here) and hair gets everywhere. They don't have shoes so walk dirt in and then lie in their bed with their mucky feet. They don't use toilet paper and if they sit on a light coloured blanket after they've been out you see the evidence of that! They use their tongue to clean their bits and then everywhere else so I would say they're pretty dirty. I love my dog, but I always wash my hands after I've been fussing him.

Cleaning the worktop? We've already established that a dish cloth is pretty germy. I'm guessing that the side you've used to wipe with that has whatever cleaning solution you use is fine but the sbit you've been holding is going to be pretty germy.

Putting stuff in the bin? Every other week, the bin men put it on a little lift that tips all the rubbish into their great big spotlessly clean van (not). It's outside in all weathers with flies buzzing round it and you think that it's freakish to wash your hands after you've put something in it?

I don't think I'm freakish but if you do, fair enough. I'm tired and I need to go and need to step into my decontamination booth before I go to bed. Smile

SPBisResisting · 16/08/2013 22:50

And this from a forum which has attacks of the vapors when people open a carrier bag by licking their fingers.
Because spit is vile but wee is sterile Hmm
