To object to double dipping?

Madamecastafiore · 12/08/2013 09:56

Because I do not want people to put stuff that has been in their mouths back in salsa or some other dip.

Apparently I am being odd. I should respect that other family members do not have communicable diseases and be happy with them sticking the carrot stick back in the hummus after they have wrapped their lips around it once already!!!!!

Bleugh!!!!!!!

I was at a party yesterday and was very much put off by all the double/triple dipping going on in the dips. Yuk!

HorryIsUpduffed · 12/08/2013 09:58

YANBU. Vile behaviour.

YouTheCat · 12/08/2013 09:59

To avoid this, I put a spoonful of whatever is being dipped onto a plate so it is for me to dip in as much as I want.

Flobbadobs · 12/08/2013 10:00

The only person I double dip with Is DH. Otherwise I do the same as YouTheCat.

Whothefuckfarted · 12/08/2013 10:01

If I am at a social gathering I will dip one end in the bite, then turn carrot/bread stick/celery around and dip the other (uncontaminated) end in for the second dip. Grin

If i'm at home with just my DP/kids/mother then double dipping doesn't bother me.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 12/08/2013 10:02

I soooo thought this was going to be something else, did think it was a bit ooh er for a Monday morning! Grin

AmazingBouncingFerret · 12/08/2013 10:02

And on both counts YADNBU!

snooter · 12/08/2013 10:03

Turning the stick round to dip the other end is fine - as long as your hands are clean!

Whothefuckfarted · 12/08/2013 10:05

Generally at a social gathering I have been bathed, dressed up and made an effort so yes... my hands aren't dirty Hmm snooter

Madamecastafiore · 12/08/2013 10:05

Goodo. Am glad its not just me who finds it offensive.

I did almost say (for shock value alone)'well I tea bagged DH this morning and haven't brushed my teeth, do enjoy the dip!' (But not totally sure what tea bagging is and even if it is what I think not sure that dh's sexually repressed brother would know what I was talking about).

Yuk! You're supposed to decant onto your plate.

Norfolknway · 12/08/2013 10:06

YANBU
Who does that? Yak - spitty salsa? No thanks!

snooter · 12/08/2013 10:09

WTFfarted - glad to hear it Smile

I was at a BBQ recently & spotted a small child repeatedly dipping his finger into the dips & licking it - nice!

YouTheCat · 12/08/2013 10:16

The trick with dips, if it's at a social thing, is to get in there first before a random child has stuck their grubby fingers in it. Grin

Pachacuti · 12/08/2013 10:16

They did look into double-dipping on Mythbusters once (taking samples and analysing them in a lab and so forth) and didn't find any difference in hygiene between single- and double-dipping.

littlemisswise · 12/08/2013 10:22

I thought the same AmazingBouncingFerret!Blush Grin

YANBU, though, OP!

lifesgreatquestions · 12/08/2013 10:26

I never put a dip out unless it has a spoon in it and plates for spooning it on to and never place it next to the things that could be dipped into it! Yuck!

HairyGrotter · 12/08/2013 10:29

Christ on a Bike, I've never bothered to notice such behaviour?! I'm usually busy being sociable and not focussing on what others are doing.

MrsMangoBiscuit · 12/08/2013 10:31

Madamecastafiore assuming you are female, you would unable to teabag your DH. You could have been teabagged BY him, then the tooth brushing would be relevant!

As for the dips, YANBU. I don't care if the entire family is healthy as a horse, I still don't want to eat their saliva!

Madamecastafiore · 12/08/2013 10:35

Mrs Mango what is tea bagging?

Had heard it before and thought it sounded rude but have no idea what it means.

Mind you considering dh's brother can't actually say the word sex, instead makes a ring with one finger and pokes other finger through it am pretty sure he wouldn't either!'

You don't want to know what I thought this thread was about Grin

littlemisswise · 12/08/2013 10:38

Teabagging

ComtesseDeSpair · 12/08/2013 10:40

I don't mind it when it's DP or my mum and when it's things which are going to be eaten all in one serving. It makes me shudder when anyone does it with things which aren't going to be finished but put back in the fridge or cupboard so that all the double dip saliva starts to break down the stored food between eatings. Grim.

ComtesseDeSpair · 12/08/2013 10:41

Hasten to add that it's double dipping which DP and my mum can do all they please. Not so much teabagging. Not my lovely mum, certainly not. Grin
