To object to double dipping?

Because I do not want people to put stuff that has been in their mouths back in salsa or some other dip.

Apparently I am being odd. I should respect that other family members do not have communicable diseases and be happy with them sticking the carrot stick back in the hummus after they have wrapped their lips around it once already!!!!!

Bleugh!!!!!!!

The whole of DP family double dip anything that can be. It's vile and makes me gag. Even putting a tub of icecream on the table and all given a spoon after Sunday lunch, I just see saliva on every spoon full. Needless to say I decline. Bleugh.

KittyLilith · 12/08/2013 11:01

I came on to say the Mythbusters thing but Pachacuti beat me to it Grin.

Wickedgirl · 12/08/2013 12:26

Double dipping is gross. If I serve dips, I always out out spoons so that everyone an put some onto their plate.

My DCs know that if they are eating dip from the pot, they break their breadsticks first and each small bit gets dipped. If food goes near a mouth, it then doesn't go back into a shared pot

mouldyironingboard · 12/08/2013 13:08

I must admit I thought this thread was going to be about something else Blush

YANBU I hate seeing food going back into a dip after a bite has been taken. Yuk!

Funghoul · 12/08/2013 13:11

Exactly the reason why I never go near chocolate fountains either.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 12/08/2013 13:25

I'm glad i'm not the only one with the filthy mind!

WhatAFunnyPotato · 12/08/2013 13:37

I also clicked on this thread with filth in mind....mild disappointment.

Was at a lunch party yesterday and people were using the SAME forks they'd eaten with to scoop more dip onto their plates. Not only that, they went for the crab dip first, then attacked the houmous Confused!

Being a veggie I was most irked.

Oldraver · 12/08/2013 13:48

Snooter..I witnessed almost the same at a childrens party, only the small child was dipping a finger in the houmous, followed by nose dipping.....

TwoTearsInABucket · 12/08/2013 13:50

When I used to work in an office, there was always great horror at buffets with the double-dipping. For some reason there were always lots of buffets at my office...
There was a particular guy who was a well-known double-dipper and on one occasion he dipped a sausage roll in some salsa, took a massive slobbery bite and then dipped the rest of it in. Shock I tell you, we gossiped about that for weeks!!

Fourwillies · 12/08/2013 13:54

YANBU. DH's friend's wife double dipped her poppadums when we went for a curry. I haven't spoken to her since!

HarrietSchulenberg · 12/08/2013 14:12

Oh god is that rude? I think I might be a double dipper, I certainly am at home. I cant think how you would actually slobber on the dip stick, though. Unless you lick the thing and put it back in, which I'm certain I don't do. Suppose it's on your teeth. Still, it's never worried me as I've never thought about it, until now.

Golferman · 12/08/2013 14:15

I soooo thought this was going to be something else, did think it was a bit ooh er for a Monday morning! grin

LOL exactly what I thought......

Geordieminx · 12/08/2013 14:17

I did think we were going down (or upWink) the pink and brown route when I opened the thread Shock

daftdame · 12/08/2013 14:19

Mmmm spitty dip.

I also get annoyed when serving utensils aren't used for pickle jars etc. Just plop your own knife in that is already covered in mustard, cheese etc...end up having to chop lumps off cheese and spoon the top out of each jar or chuck entirely. Angry

It depends who it is with. If I am with close family, boyfriend etc... then I will double dip and sure they would not be too bothered either. But if I was at a bigger do then I wouldn't.

helenthemadex · 12/08/2013 14:34

I'm another one with a mucky mind Blush

YANBU double dipping is disgusting

BumbleChum · 12/08/2013 14:37

At a social occasion it's pretty unpleasant. It's also the reason my coeliac kids can't eat dips/sauces/butter etc. on occasions like this - because some mucky bugger will have dipped their gluten-containing food in the communal pot. So, in fact, I also think single-dipping is anti-social. Put some on your plate, people!

ThePorpoiseofStupidity · 12/08/2013 14:46

Another one too who thought this would be about something else Grin.

A slight variation of the double dip is when said dipping apparatus is dipped in more than one dip at the same time, therefore resulting in mixed dips. That's really annoying, I don't want onion and garlic in my cool salsa thanks very much.

CSIJanner · 12/08/2013 17:11

LMAO over the tea bag comment!

YANBU - both I and Sheldon Cooper would agree. I did go to urban dictionary to find another comeback for you but even I am appalled with my own suggestions Shock

Madamecastafiore · 12/08/2013 17:20

Do you think this could be a mumsnet campaign?!!

Am glad you don't all think I'm crazy?

hophophippidtyhop · 12/08/2013 17:21

Being a seinfeld fan, I knew what double dipping meant...

picnicbasketcase · 12/08/2013 17:24

Clearly I'm in a minority but I really haven't ever noticed anyone do it, so I guess I'm not bothered enough to be looking out for it Confused

cantspel · 12/08/2013 17:30

I often wonder how some posters managed to ever have their first kiss/sex with their oh.

Did you make them dip their bits in bleach before insertion and put a condom over your tongue before the first kiss?

EatingAllTheCrumpets · 12/08/2013 17:48

Crikey you'd hate me and my friends, when we go to the seaside we all get different flavours of ice cream in cones and all have a lick to see which ones we like Grin

But I think that we're probably the abnormal ones here so I'll go with YANBU
