been watching 'The men that made us thin' and am simply overwhelmed.

So diets don't work....most people end up heavier than if they had not dieted at all...one guy was like "well duh! if they worked we would lose our customers"....another wrote a book aimed at teenage girls including the advice to " buy scales and keep them secret from your parents"

The constant stream of adverts aimed at middle aged women are seen by children who by age 6-7 have self-esteem issues and can quote the number of calories in most foods...

My evil-ometer is broken.

Inability to comprehend financial planning or budgeting, sometimes even at a basic level; for example, estimating the cost of the items in a shopping basket or balancing a checkbook

I CAN do this but it takes AGES standing there trying to work it out and always end up having to use a calculator.

inability to tune out, filtering unwanted information or impressions. Might have a well-developed sense of imagination due to this (possibly as cognitive compensation to mathematical?numeric deficits)

THIS Was told in English at school when writing short stories that i could spin a good yarn.

Darkesteyes · 18/08/2013 20:38

Whiter to do that i would have to work out the calories in a portion in the first place and thats not always whats on the container. Sometimes whats listed on the container is 100 g.
Division is not easy for someone like me when we cant work out what to put in the calculator in the first place.

Whitershadeofpale · 18/08/2013 21:56

I do appreciate that though many products do have calories per portion on them. I just thought it might narrow down the amount of numbers you're looking at. So instead of fat, protein, carbohydrates, fibre etc. You would just have to look at calories % 40.

I think really though you're right it shouldn't be this hard and if it is you're unlikely to stick with it. Most ways of eating involve some form of numbers when you're trying to watch your intake. I've never done low-carb myself but it sounds like it might suit you.

Good luck. I hope you find a way of eating that suits you Smile

Darkesteyes · 18/08/2013 22:26

Thanks White Dropped Pro Points today and started low carbing and eating more protein.

encyclogirl · 18/08/2013 23:19

As this thread has been bumped i would just like to say that i have been excersising for over 2 months now and ditched WW for Slimming World five weeks ago and have lost 11 pounds.

Darkesteyes · 06/04/2014 18:07

UPDATE.

Ive been dieting since last August and have only lost just not quite 2 stone Yet ive followed the SW plan stayed WELL below my syns and only had choc at Xmas. Am actually considering taking diet pills Ive tried excsrsising Ive tried not excesrsising. Makes no difference In 8 months ive had 2 takeaways a Dominos on August 4 last year and fish and chips on NYE.

Short of sticking my fingers down my throat i dont see what else i can do. Id take laxatives but i have IBS so it isnt a good idea I am losing about 2 pounds a month going from 16stone 8 to 14 stone 11 Im fucked off and fed up Have refused cake EVERY TIME when its offered to me at my mums. My DH says something isnt right.

In 2002/2003 i lost ten stone going from 21 down to 10 stone 12. A stone a month for seven months and then a year to lose the last 3. I was 29/30 when i did that and now im almost 41. im fucking fed up with this and i FUCKING WELL DESERVE a better loss than what im getting.

lollerskates · 06/04/2014 18:18

Woah there.

Neither diet pills nor bulimia nor laxative abuse is the answer.

It's clear that SW isn't working as fast as you want it to - although almost 2 stone isn't nothing, is it?

It sounds like you've had issues with your weight for a long time. What are you eating at the moment, in a typical day? What exercise were you doing? And do you post on any of the weight loss threads?

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 06/04/2014 18:21

Hi darkest - just a thought, but have you had your thyroid checked?

OneUp · 06/04/2014 18:41

Darkest - you're supposed to eat all your syns.
