To be really fed up with reverse aibus?

K8Middleton · 10/08/2013 21:30

Is this a thing now? I keep seeing outrageous aibus that turn out to be reverse ones and it is really very annoying. Why not just openly lay down the facts from your point of view like err, normal?

Nobody can ever know all the ins and outs of what another person is thinking or feeling at the best of times but when someone has their own agenda and bias they are just pointless.

Not a reverse aibu before some smart arse suggests that Grin

OutragedFromLeeds · 10/08/2013 21:31

YANBU. Completely pointless and annoying.

Joiningthegang · 10/08/2013 21:32

Yabu
Doesn't bother me in the least

ChippingInHopHopHop · 10/08/2013 21:33

A bit mean to post this right after the thread from the poor girl with the god awful parents.

People do it to try to see things from a different POV - there's no harm in it, it's not like they're trolling.

NoelHeadbands · 10/08/2013 21:33

YANBU.

Pointless, annoying and automatically make me suspect that the OP is manipulative and passive aggressive by nature.

amiwickedwitch · 10/08/2013 21:34

YABU Doesn't bother me either.

K8Middleton · 10/08/2013 21:37

Mean? Eh?

I don't think I've even been on another thread this evening Confused

OP posts:
Ezza1 · 10/08/2013 21:39

What is a reverse AIBU? Never quite understood what people mean by it? Can someone give me a rough example please?Confused

Panzee · 10/08/2013 21:40

I love them. They always out the ones who don't read the thread before posting.

MayTheOddsBeEverInYourFavour · 10/08/2013 21:41

YANBU

I hate them and they are pointless, they don't give the 'other side' because they are still written in a way that's biased

Iamsparklyknickers · 10/08/2013 21:42

Here you go Ezza Smile

OP YANBU

JumpingJackSprat · 10/08/2013 21:44

Definitely not BU i bloody hate them, so manipulative and rather than just giving facts they always seem to be just so people can gather up lots of yanbus to make themselves feel justified. theyre always so bloody obvious as well.

Eilidhbelle · 10/08/2013 21:44

YANBU, they are annoying. It's a waste of time too, because they are always so biased in favour of the poster so you don't get a balanced account of the issue.

Patchouli · 10/08/2013 21:45

I don't mind people doing them and can often see why they have.
But what irritates me is when half the posters have missed the reveal.

inallmydays · 10/08/2013 21:49

agree exactly with MayTheOddsBeEverInYourFavour

K8Middleton · 10/08/2013 21:49

Ezza it's where something happens to the op and instead of saying "aibu to think it's terribly bad form to invite someone to dinner and then not give them pudding? The host kept saying if we wanted some to just help ourselves to something from the freezer like we do at home. It was really weird and she kept going on about people on benefits being scroungers even though she knows we get housing benefit" (or some such) they post "aibu to invite guests to dinner and not give them pudding because they get housing benefit and could buy their own with all their free money and they wouldn't know a tiramisu from a zabaglione any way?".

Ie loads of supposition and assumption being presented as facts.

OP posts:
K8Middleton · 10/08/2013 21:54

X-posted with Iamsparklyknickers and her post answering a whole load of questions.

While that looks like a really sad thread I would have been sympathetic and understanding of the facts as presents by the op from her own point of view. It just didn't need all the faffing and it tells the op nothing because there are unknown unknowns.

But then I hate posters who do a Columbo on every non obv trolling run of the mill thread and never just take a perfectly plausible op at face value.

OP posts:
HeffalumpTheFlump · 10/08/2013 21:54

Yanbu, I find them annoying. There is no way that the poster can 100% know the motivations and thought processes of the person in question so they are bound to be biased towards what the op thinks has happened. I don't see why they can't post from their own point of view as surely it would be more accurate.

Iamsparklyknickers · 10/08/2013 21:58

Sorry I didn't think about the content when I posted the example..

K8 is still NBU though, more than anything I dislike it because after a flurry of them, people tend to start ignoring posts because they seem suspiciously like a reverse or worse start asking if it is. It's like trollling accusations imo, it's the internet, either take it at face value, click away from the page or report it. Threads debating the validity of the poster tend to be dull.

ImTooHecsyForYourParty · 10/08/2013 21:58

I think that often they are pointless because they are written so outrageously that no sane person could think they were right.

I think it would be better for people to lay out a story neutrally. Third person.

A does 1, b does 2, a thinks this, b thinks that, what do you think...

Reverse aibu are written with such bias as to trigger a wtf yabu. Same as right way round ones are written with a bias that aims to get a yanbu.

3rd person, full story, neutral reporting is the best way.

Primadonnagirl · 10/08/2013 21:59

I was just about to start the same thread! So annoyed with myself cos I've fallen for a couple of these and wasted time responding ..IT'S NOT BIG AND IT'S NOT CLEVER !

Ezza1 · 10/08/2013 22:07

Ah right, I see now, thanks to iamsparkly's example. Thats a very obvious one though - as in the op came back and said so...I've not seen that before.

I've seen others where some people say "is this a reverse aibu??" and I'm like Confused How can they tell?

I guess I'm just rubbish at deciphering thread content Grin or I don't spend enough time mumsnetting

FancyPuffin · 10/08/2013 22:09

Been thinking about starting a thread about this.

YANBU.

They give me the rage. What is the point?

MalcolmTuckersMum · 10/08/2013 22:09

Annoys the fuck out of me and if I live to be 300 I'll never understand why the poster would think they'd get different answers with a reverse than they'd get if they just laid out the case in an adult and rational manner. Perhaps someone who has done a reverse can tell us WTF they were thinking at the time?

K8Middleton · 10/08/2013 22:09

Yeah you've gotta put the hours in Wink

OP posts:
MrsOakenshield · 10/08/2013 22:11

I don't mind them but there's no point people getting hufty that posters have only read the OP and haven't picked up on the fact that halfway through page 2 the OP announces that it's a reverse.
