The Duke and Duchess gave their occupation as prince and princess of the United Kingdom on the birth certificate register

Thought their occupation was helicopter rescue pilot and housewife

"Princess of England" as an "Occupation" is ridiculous. The father's occupation is an RAF helicopter pilot. Prince, isn't an occupation.

These are titles not occupations. Or have I got this wrong?

Ah, thanks. As I said, I was just getting it from another thread. Where can you look this stuff up? I've googled with no joy.

DinoSnores · 03/08/2013 22:13

Wikipedia is surprisingly accurate in this regard. (I have to do something while BFing overnight and do like a good royal biography!)

HRHMargeSimpsonOfCornwall · 03/08/2013 22:16

it's less embarrassing than having two accountants for parents.

What did Charles and Diana put /??

juneybean · 03/08/2013 22:17

I thought Annes children couldn't be prince/princess due to her being female?

Cremolafoam · 03/08/2013 22:17

So how would the Interview for Princess go then.?

Can you tell me why you want this job miss Middleton and what experience you can bring to our organisation.?

You specify on you cv that one of your strengths is that you are a good communicator and have excellent people skills. Can you provide a recent specific example of what you have described?

ineedtogetoutmore · 03/08/2013 22:19

I thought it was awesome...

in hindsight I wish I'd put something like astronaut for hubbys occupation and secret service agent for mine ... it' not like they check :)

ParsingFancy · 03/08/2013 22:20

OMG, CoT, you're a genius!

I've just looked her up and found the 1841 census.

It reads:

Name of the Institution: Buckingham Palace

Name................Age of Males..Age of Females..Occupation........Where born (whether born in same county)
The Queen................................20..........................................Y
HRH Prince Albert........20........................................................F [Foreign]
The Prince?s Royal....................6 months..................................Y
Earl of Aboyne.............45.............................Lord in Waiting.......N
George Thomas Keppel.40..............................Groom in Waiting...Y

and so on.

Bizarrely, between all the Valets, and Pages of the Backstairs, and Pages of the Presence, is a Cabinet Maker.

HRHMargeSimpsonOfCornwall · 03/08/2013 22:23

Ineedtogetoutmore, I hear you, I asked the registrar, "can I put artist!?" but the registrar said "are you an artist?". I wish I'd said yes. I'm so embarrassed for my kids. double dullness. if their descendants are on who do you think you are in 150 years time, they'll be cringing!

twinklyfingers · 03/08/2013 22:25

My dd was born in November 2012 and her birth certificate is beautifully handwritten by the registrar in our village.

HRHMargeSimpsonOfCornwall · 03/08/2013 22:25

........ or "jewellery designer" . I have made a couple of pairs of earrings.

Cremolafoam, I think Kate is very good at communicating nothing, which, from somebody who always puts her foot in it and reveals too much, is a skill I admire. It's harder than it might seem.

Alisvolatpropiis · 03/08/2013 22:29

Can you put whatever you want for occupation or do you have to prove it?

"Queen of Fucking Everything" has a ring to it no?

IneedAsockamnesty · 03/08/2013 22:30

Dinosnores,

On marriage lady Diana spencer became her royal highness Diana princess of Wales, duchess of Cornwall, duchess of Rothesay, countess of Chester, baroness of Renfrew. And also retained the rights to the title lady spencer.

On divorce due to the rule changes the queen made she lost the right to use the title her royal highness (same as fergi) but retained the other bits of her title due to her sons being fairly high inline to the throne and she was still officially classed as a member of the royal family.

FrancesDeLaTourCoughngIntoABin · 03/08/2013 22:30

PMSL at one of her KIT days
I wonder how they'llget by once she's on SMP only

FrancesDeLaTourCoughngIntoABin · 03/08/2013 22:30

Ahh they can always sell a photo to OK, that should keep them in Weetabix for a month or so till she's back at work

AmandaPandtheTantrumofDoom · 03/08/2013 22:32

Snort at KIT days. Missed that first time round. It's daft to use them whilst you're still on the 90% SMP though Kate. Tut tut. Need to wait a while longer.

uselessinformation · 03/08/2013 22:38

kate's title is Princess William of Wales. They choose to go by their other titles of Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. I think their other title is earl and countess of Strathmore. the top royals sign with only their first names. Technically they don't have surnames it is the royal house of Windsor as in the past...house of Tudor/Hanover etc. princess Anne choose not to have titles for her children. prince Edwards children are lady Louise Windsor and viscount Severn. Apologies for lack of apostrophes in the correct places.it takes too long to go back and put them in (capitals too!)

SirChenjin · 03/08/2013 22:42

I suppose Professional Waver and Opener of Things With Ribbons doesn't sound quite the same Grin

It's nice to see Kate finally being able to claim an occupation though miaow

DinoSnores · 03/08/2013 22:50

sockreturningpixie, you're wrong. She had those titles but NONE of them included her name until she was divorced. Prior to then, she was HRH THE [my capitals] Princess of Wales, Duchess of Cornwall etc.

ParsingFancy · 03/08/2013 22:53

1851 census (censuses more detailed from 1851 onwards):

St & Name or No of House ...Name ...Reln to Head of Family ...Condition ...Age M/F ...Rank, Profession or Occupation ...Where born
Buckingham Palace ...Her Majesty Alexandrina Victoria ...Wife ...Mar ...31 ...The Queen ...Kensington Palace
... ...H.R.H Prince Francis Albert Augustus Charles Emanuel ...Head ... Mar ...31 ... Duke of Saxony Prince of Coburg and Gotha ...-
... ...H.R.H. Victoria Adelaide Mary Louisa ...Daur ...- ...Prince?s Royal ...Buckingham Palace
... ...H.R.H Albert Edward ...Son ...- ...9 ...Prince of Wales ...do do

and four more children, down to

... ...H.R.H Arthur William Patrick Albert ...Son ...- ...11m ...Prince of the United Kingdom Duke of Saxony Prince of Coburg and Gotha ...do do

Poor wee Arthur, crushed by a title bigger than he was.

NonnoMum · 03/08/2013 22:58

I'm just pleased they've got round to registering...

They can put in the claim for Child Benefit now...

Hulababy · 03/08/2013 23:01

Was trying to find the King on 1911 census but couldn't find it - need my proper account back!

OhDearNigel · 03/08/2013 23:08

So what do you think the Queen would put ? Pensioner ?

OhDearNigel · 03/08/2013 23:13

And he wouldn't be allowed to sign it just "Wills" would he?

The Queen signs Elizabeth R{egina}. Prince Charles signs "Charles". So no surprise that William signs "william" really. Doesn't look like "wills" to me, just looks like will..squiggle

IneedAsockamnesty · 03/08/2013 23:27

Dino,

Sorry your right,I misread your initial post about it and got myself into a muddle,my head was thinking about princess diana/Diana princess of blah blah blah as opposed to dropping out the Diana
