To think you don't need 4 eggs and 7 slices of ham to make an omelette for one person???

This seems excessive to me... No-one needs that much in one omelette... Surely 2 eggs and 2 slices of ham would be fine?

bridget

You were the one who brought abusive behaviour into the conversation I only provided you with the flip side of your rather insulting hysterical post.

Incidentally the situation I posted is a far more frequent occurrence than the one you did.

Feel free to come and spend a day working in my office or any of the shelters we fund and you will see the effect it can have on people.

And mine applies equally to men and women. Go and reread that definition of financial abuse and consider the all to common situation that occurs when you have a set budget but one person takes twice as much as they need to the detriment of everybody else whilst often also dictating what they will or will not permit to be brought (so it reduces how effective budgeting can be) that's called with holding food from everybody else.

And it already is taken into consideration by police and courts when they are looking at the whole picture of dv after an assault. And is often used as examples of unreasonable behaviour with divorce paperwork.

And if you think any healthy body needs nearly 5000 calories a day then you have some serious food issues or your deluded.

And I've reported Bridgets last post because it's now clearly a personal attack on Grumpy, and frankly, Bridget is starting to sound worryingly odd.

MrsKoala · 02/08/2013 17:23

No Bridget, that's not what people are saying. People are saying he has 2 choices on the budget he has. One is eat lots more calories and fill up on cheaper food, food Grumpy is also happy to eat, food like veggies and pulses etc. OR he has more expensive food he likes but just less of it and then perhaps will not feel as full.

What he cannot have, on their families budget is a big plate of steak. He seems unable to compromise.

CorrineFoxworth · 02/08/2013 17:23

There's another thread? Oh no, poor grumpy Sad

Will get over there.

somewhereaclockisticking · 02/08/2013 17:25

sounds like a typical man meal to me - totally excessive!

MrsKoala · 02/08/2013 17:30

If i were Grumpy i would explain again that these are the 2 options. If he cannot choose one of those i would then go down the 3rd option route and give him his % of food budget and tell him to feed himself. See how he finds buying meat and eggs then.

MrsKoala · 02/08/2013 17:31

Where is Grumpy's thread?

skylerwhite · 02/08/2013 17:36

Bridget why are you being so horrible?

flipchart · 02/08/2013 17:38

Teenage sons would have a snack like this after playing Ice Hockey.
Quite normal in our house.
But, like I said they are teenagers who are very physicay active with Hockey, football and cycling so it doesn't bother me.

grumpyoldbat · 02/08/2013 17:57

I'm about to start my shift so need to pull myself together. All I can say is I've aoologised more than once and promised to let him have first pick of the food from now on. I know it makes me a bad person but I can't do any more.

skylerwhite · 02/08/2013 17:59

You're not a bad person grumpy. Ignore Bridget, she appears to be grinding some other axe entirely. Look after yourself - everyone in your family deserves to have enough to eat. That includes you.

noddyholder · 02/08/2013 18:03

If you keep policing his omelettes you will never get laid

LadyMilfordHaven · 02/08/2013 18:04

eggsellent yoke Nod

LadyMilfordHaven · 02/08/2013 18:06

i am still lolling at the use of the death zone to discuss over use of eggs

expatinscotland · 02/08/2013 18:07

Diddums, someone who is not working a manual job, ill, what have you is eating 5,000 calories a day and is 'hungry'. Wonder how all those people working hard jobs in Asia and Africa and get nowhere near that are still standing up.

Hmm, probably because most people do not need that much food. We have all got used to eating too large portion sizes here.

LadyMilfordHaven · 02/08/2013 18:07

I do like an omelette. I just have mine plain, though, like the spanyards

IneedAsockamnesty · 02/08/2013 18:08

Hmmmmm grumpy, you already let him have first pick at the food you also already let him have second pick right after he's finished the first one by him eating your food off your plate leaving you hungry.

BustyStClaire · 02/08/2013 18:08

You're all mental. Its a frackin omelette!

expatinscotland · 02/08/2013 18:09

Because that's what you need, Lady, when you're doing something very physical like that, or a top athlete or ill. Not when you're a stay at home parent. If someone is still 'hungry' on that, he/she needs to see a doctor because it is not normal to want to eat that much food if you're not doing huge amounts of activity.

LadyMilfordHaven · 02/08/2013 18:10

i shouldnt think many Mumsnetters Hs are in the death zone regularly or certainly not without regular texts to let their wives know Wink

MrsKoala · 02/08/2013 18:11

Grumpy - I mean this in the nicest possible way; you are being oversensitive to Bridgets comments. She has had issues which have clouded her opinion. Her situation was different. If you martyr yourself buy continuing to let this happen and let your dh have first pickings you will only be storing up problems and resentment later on. You also wont be doing dh any favours by letting him not take an adult part in your family life. Think about it, everyone else on here has been on your side and pointed out how bizarre Bridgets responses have been. Take a step back and try and work out a solution with your dh. But do NOT go without. You are just as deserving of food as anyone else. Can you speak to your DH properly about this and explain how upset you are and that you are going hungry? Would he care?

expatinscotland · 02/08/2013 18:13

Hence, don't need 5,000 fucking calories a day and take food off their spouse's plate. The budget's the budget. Live within it or find a way to earn more money to feed one's gob, male or female.

Emilythornesbff · 02/08/2013 18:23

Taking more than fair share of ham.
Leaving the loo seat up.
Sitting on crowded tube with knees wide apart, thus taking up LOADS of room.

All similar IMO.

Just saying. Grin

NeoMaxiZoomDweebie · 02/08/2013 18:26

OP's stated her family is not in poverty....they're in good professions....the DH is probably used to having what he wants. They're tightening their belts for an unspecified reason.

I think the DH can have what he bloody well wants by the sound of the OP's budget. I agree with Bridget.

MrsKoala · 02/08/2013 18:37

It doesn't really matter what the professions are tho. What matters is outgoings. If they exceed the incomings and are non negotiable bills then the budget is the budget.

I agree with expat about the 5000 calorie intake. My DH is 6ft2in and over 16st of muscle, he runs 5 miles a day and lives on 3000. If he has more than that he gets podgy. Now i know everyone is different, but not 2000 calories of different, unless there is weight or health issues. So Grumpy i would also suggest to your DH you are concerned and perhaps he should go to the dr, it may be a thyroid thing or something. Probably not and the dr can tell him what is 'normal' consumption for him.
