To think you don't need 4 eggs and 7 slices of ham to make an omelette for one person???

This seems excessive to me... No-one needs that much in one omelette... Surely 2 eggs and 2 slices of ham would be fine?

That's a lot! Even a two egg omelette is pretty filling.

PaulSmenis · 01/08/2013 10:10

That's a big breakfast!

I'm a small slim woman and could easily pack away something like that for my dinner. Not for breakfast though.

We love eggs in our house, so we always have loads. DS devours ham as soon as we get it.

The fact that he didn't have cheese on his omlette is the most concerning aspect of this imo.

PurplePidjin · 01/08/2013 10:13

That would feed all of us - 2 adults and one weaning baby.

What's wrong with porridge for a healthy morning meal?

trice · 01/08/2013 10:14

Dh would eat that, no problem. But he is very physically active. I would be annoyed if I was planning something for the ham.

It is a pricey snack, £5 ish?

PaulSmenis · 01/08/2013 10:18

Did he use fancy posh ham?

oldgrandmama · 01/08/2013 10:20

Has he had a blood test for cholestrol levels recently? Does sound a rather over-lavish breakfast.

Thats a normal omelette for me, maybe less ham but then I also add cheese.

Unless he is overweight and is eating too much its not greedy.

curlew · 01/08/2013 10:35

"That would feed all of us - 2 adults and one weaning baby."

That's nothing.i feed a family of four for a week on a single sliced boiled egg, with salad leaves I gather from the hedgerows and boiled dandelion roots........

BlackholesAndRevelations · 01/08/2013 10:36

Think my dp could probably manage that easily (wafer thin ham?) but then as others have said, he wouldn't have anything else til dinner.

Have a word with him about the budget though, as that aspect is unreasonable.

BlackholesAndRevelations · 01/08/2013 10:36

Ps hope I've got some eggs in the fridge as you've made me want an omelette!! Mmmmm cheese, mushroom and tomatoes for me!

Ragwort · 01/08/2013 10:39

Curlew Grin. My thoughts exactly.

Only on Mumsnet do we sealth boast about how little we eat and how frugal we all are until it comes to the Christmas threads.

Wonders off to make a large cheese and ham omelette for a late breakfast.

curlew · 01/08/2013 10:44

Did I mention that the egg is a seagull's? I abseil down a cliff and take one from each nest I come across. Then I preserve them in isinglass.

Bunnygotwhacked · 01/08/2013 10:47

I'm sorry but really 7 slices of ham thats almost if not an entire packet the 4 eggs is annoying and greedy tell him he has to start contributing a bit more towards the food budget if he is going to do that. 3 eggs max with two slices of ham snipped in how does he fit all that ham in anyway how big is your frying pan

Emilythornesbff · 01/08/2013 10:54

Not stealth boasting. Not at all.
When on a budget, taking 7 slices of ham for one person's omelette is greedy. Don't care if it's thin as a blue rizzla. Food is expensive.

frogwatcher42 · 01/08/2013 11:02

It depends majorly on what type of ham. If it is processed thin sliced then it is mainly water and not filling at all. My dh would eat a packet full of it - my 8 year old would happily eat a lot too! If it is large chunks of gammon or thickly sliced decent ham (not full of water) then maybe it is greedy (or not if he is not overweight - he obviously needs it).

The quality of the food does make a massive difference as to how filling it is.

frogwatcher42 · 01/08/2013 11:03

If somebody isnt overweight and they eat a lot, how is that greedy. They obviously need it surely.

Grumpywino · 01/08/2013 11:06

YABU. If someone is hungry they must eat. Although the ham is processed that's a great protein meal, topping up with dreadful bread/toast is so unhealthy. And for the life of me I don't understand why so many of you prefer a small breakfast and a big dinner! Fuel your day of activity not an evening sat on the sofa!!!

SmiteYouWithThunderbolts · 01/08/2013 11:07

3 eggs and 2 - 3 slices of ham in this house (2 if I'm also padding it out with mushrooms, spinach, peppers and peas). Using 7 slices of ham for one omelette would be considered sacrilege in this house if it's naice ham. Waffer theeen type stuff is different (and shit). You need half a packet of that to just get a vaguely hammy taste.

oscarwilde · 01/08/2013 11:11

Send him off to the supermarket to buy a piece of gammon and make him cook it. Nicer and way cheaper than sliced ham from a packet. Then don't let him eat any until everyone else has had their fill.

Sorry - not helpful if you are budgeting. Just tell him it was greedy and OTT and the food was supposed to be for everyone. Or buy a padlock for the fridge? Grin

Twattybollocks · 01/08/2013 11:14

A bit excessive I think. I really want an omelette now, as I love them but alas eggs really don't love me!

Crinkle77 · 01/08/2013 11:15

I find 2 eggs is never normally enough but a whole packet of ham is ridiculous.

livinginwonderland · 01/08/2013 11:17

DP would easily eat that. Maybe not all the ham but he'd add cheese and tomatoes instead. He often has 3 or 4 egg omelettes for brunch on a Saturday and he's still hungry after. He has a very physical job so he needs the energy.

mijas99 · 01/08/2013 11:18

If you spent 2 hours placing football or tennis the night before, or at the gym/swimming pool or work manually, then you may need a 1000 calorie breakfast just to help replenish energy levels, so it is not unreasonable at all

He is a grown man, let him eat what he feels he needs. Imagine if it was the man complaining that his wife is greedy

Eggs and ham could be incredibly cheap. There are fewer cheaper sources of protein, especially if it is the crappy wafer ham
