To think Blackpool is a bit shit

Just came back from Blackpool and it was utter shit. Why haven't the council there made improvements and made it a decent place to visit?

There is hardly anywhere halfway reasonable to eat, it looks completely broken and unloved. There is just so much potential for development and it could be the "Orlando" of England. Instead, it's just shite.

I've come away thinking I don't need to take my children to Africa to appreciate what they've got: just take them to Blackpool.

On a good note, the beach is very nice. Shame about the drunks weeing all over the stairs to the beach and leaving beer cans everywhere. I saw broken Britain in Blackpool and I shall never go back again.

Anyone else think the 'fracking' near Blackpool is an attempt to try and get the town to drift off from the mainland?

RedToothBrush · 24/07/2013 21:10

The whole of the front, all the arcades and the other scruffy buildings have not had a penny spent on them for decades. The owner/s of the arcades have just counted all the money and never invested any money back in to thier business and every year that passes the whole of Blackpool gets worse and now you hear all the arcade owners moaning how hard it is now, they have only themselves to blame for their businesses struggling. As i said further up the thread the council with the casino/casinos idea was a very plausible idea and possibly the only idea that could regenerate Blackpool face it " BIG ROLLERS AND SPENDERS" are not going to come to Blackpool for ROCK or SUNSHINE ARE THEY. The biggest stabbing in the back that Blackpool got though was when the LABOUR PARTY DECIDED THAT BLACKPOOL WAS TO ROUGH AND WORKING CLASS "to hold their party Conferences. As for MORECAMBE and the council idea that URBAN SPLASH would recreate the MIDLAND HOTEL in to a Grand 5 star Hotel and that MORECAMBE would have a rebirth as a stylish resort. ITS JUST VERY SAD AND NO DOUBT IS JUST THE SAME IN MARGATE GREAT YARMOUTH AND SOUTHEND.

catgirl St Annes but happy to trek to Lytham for a meetup! I often meet friends at Zest or Java, both lovely. Are you in Lytham?

chocoluvva · 24/07/2013 21:25

The promenade is very clean and smart now. The trams are too.

Filimou · 24/07/2013 21:41

Amazing how many posts start with I went there once when I was 3/4 places change and yes there are ropey areas of blackpool but also masses of investment/improvement. True Story Grin

Filimou · 24/07/2013 21:49

aqua that is a pain..

TSSDNCOP · 24/07/2013 21:55

Oh dear God, I've just watched the Steeplechase clip. DSIS and I went on that age 12/10 IN THE FUCKING DARK. all the way round was this song going "FUN, FUN, FUN YES IT'S FUN, FUN, FUN"

We still use that song now in terrible times as a reminder things can be worse.

Blackpool, whilst a solid gold shit hole is a lot of awful fun.

BridgetBidet · 24/07/2013 21:56

Oh fuck me BeatBack we've had some UrbanSplash* fiddling in Sheffield which has turned some ugly social housing into some even uglier housing for rich people. I absolutely despise them.

BridgetBidet · 24/07/2013 21:58

I love Blackpool. My family are originally from Manchester although I grew up in London. We often used to go to Blackpool when

BridgetBidet · 24/07/2013 22:00

I was little and I still love 50p to the first person who can see the Blackpool Tower, tacky hats, weird scary kids rides and that odd sunshine man at Blackpool Pleasure beach. I even had odd memories like my Great Gran dying when I was at Blackpool Pleasure Beach. I have loads of memories there. And it's always been a bit shit in my lifetime but that's part of the reason I love it.

beatback · 24/07/2013 22:01

BridgetBidet. Your are right about URBAN SPLASH they come in promising the world and just make things look worse.

Oooh - I'm an almost Fylde Coaster too! Just outside Kirkham. I'm up for "Lytham and Lunch" if there's a meet up going!

Oh god someone mentioned race day in Chester. Genteel Cheltenham turns into an absolute hellhole during gold cup week to the extent it would make Blackpool look respectable.

LeGavrOrf · 24/07/2013 22:22

I think we should all meet up in Blackpool and go on the steeplechase, grand national and the mice ride. Dear god.
