to be disappointed that royal baby is a boy

Madmum24 · 22/07/2013 22:48

I know IABU, baby is healthy etc, but for some reason I really thought it would be a girl.

I don't know what has got into me, I am certainly not a royalist but I have been so interested in the birth.

Is it up to the queen what name is given to the baby?

And did she
really hate diana?

Feeling sorry for the little baby boy. It's not his fault. He doesn't even know he's royal.

I'm a sentimental hamwidge.

Not disappointed at all...in fact am already planning the hat I will be wearing on the new prince's wedding day to my DD. Will NOT be purchasing any of the savvy future princess t shirts all over the shops though.

I didn't think the queen hated Diana. reckon she was frustrated with Charles that he created such a dog's breakfast. she can't have been blind to the fact that Diana started out adoring Diana. all he had to do was make her believe he felt the same and she would have been the marionette the royal family wanted.

oohdaddypig · 22/07/2013 23:16

OP I don't know why you feel you need to don a flameproof suit. Just some pretty nasty responses here tonight.

I'm not disappointed its a boy - we have a healthy baby bla bla - but part of me would have liked to have seen the new accession laws being used. The change in law is hugely significant in terms of the overall message about where we want equality to go in this country - and it's an international message.

Admitting that doesn't mean anyone hates baby boys FFS!!!!

HahaHarrie · 22/07/2013 23:17

I thought it was going to be a girl - with the change of law, the fact there are two kings already lined up and that slip of the tongue when Kate said "I'll give that to my d... baby", in response to someone giving her a present for the baby. Girl baby was on my mind.

Disappointed that it is a boy - no way. Disappointed I got it wrong - yes! I'm never wrong. Grin

I have a boy and a girl both are magnificent!

You're not overburdened with insight here LMH. It's not a boys versus girls thing. It's a THREE KINGS IN A ROW thing.

Alisvolatpropiis · 22/07/2013 23:17

"boy everything is boring"

You are trying to be funny there aren't you?

LazyMonkeyButler · 22/07/2013 23:17

I was a little disappointed TBH. I feel as though the 'new legislation' has to wait at least one more generation before being effective, which is a shame.

However, I am very happy for the couple & their baby tonight. They are no different from the rest of us really & the first night with a newborn is pretty magical IMHO. Whoever you are.

LadyMilfordHaven · 22/07/2013 23:18

i dont think that is what she said

Girls are so much more interesting. There's no story now, who really cares what they name a boy, boy everything is boring.

Zynzong · 22/07/2013 23:18

some people are really sparring for a row

Madmum24 · 22/07/2013 23:18

Well certainly there was animosity shown towards Diana; but I assumed that Wills being fairly strong minded would have asserted his preferences. I did think that they would have been good parents to a girl (in terms of raising a daughter ILTTT) and Kate would have been a good role model.

Can't wait to hear the name now.

and some people are being very sexist

McNewPants2013 · 22/07/2013 23:19

I hope he looks like prince Harry :)

MovingForward0719 · 22/07/2013 23:20

It would have been hellish for them if it was a girl. The media interest won't be quite so hysterical this way.

DomesticCEO · 22/07/2013 23:22

How is Kate a good role model?????

She ruthlessly pursued her prince and then laps up the lifestyle of doing fuck all - great role model for our little girls Hmm. "Go on darling, go and find yourself a rich man and then you'll never have to do a day's work in your life".

The queen/royal family showed huge animosity to Diana and treated her like total shit. The way they behaved after her death was truly appalling too and cost the royals a lot of brownie points. People have short memories, which the queen is obviously very grateful for.

DomesticCEO · 22/07/2013 23:22

And the "new legislation" should say that all our children, boy or girl, should have the right to be the head of state. That's progress.

WhiteBirdBlueSky · 22/07/2013 23:24

YANBU

ImNotBloody14 · 22/07/2013 23:25

Well i was a child when diana died and really didnt pay much, if any, attention to the royals' treatment of her prior to it or the way they dealt with it afterwards- i was genuinely asking- nothing to do with a short memory- i never knew the information in the first place

DomesticCEO · 22/07/2013 23:26

Imnotbloody14, wasn't referring to you was referring to the "masses" in general. I was 25 when she died and worked opposite the palace - the animosity towards the queen and charles because of their treatment of Diana was incredible.

All forgotten now.

ccsays · 22/07/2013 23:27

Jeezo, some of you are taking this very seriously Hmm

Fwiw, no, YANBU. Obviously, hooray for a healthy baby and all that, but yes, a girl would have been nice to see the new ascension laws come into play. It would have been particularly nice to see the news correspondents on Daybreak (who said she would have a boy because "she does everything perfectly") and CNN (who said she "did brilliantly" to have a boy on her "first try") eat their words.

Yikes - this thread is horrid. Sure a girl would have been interesting for the constitution (contradiction in terms there) but who cares? A mother delivered a healthy son this afternoon. SOme other mums in the UK won't have been so lucky and all over the world today both mums and babies will have died during labour. To be disappointed in any sense here is just ridiculous and self indulgent.

As for those saying boys are boring. Get a grip on yourselves, You look like idiots.

Fakebook · 22/07/2013 23:33

I disappointed the baby isn't a half lizard. Sad
