To be shocked that a woman is feeding her baby..

...a Capri Sun orange carton on the bus? The baby cannot be any older than 8 months. And the other day on the bus I saw a woman give her 2 year old a bottle of coke to drink. I know he was 2 because he was telling me about himself!

Maybe the baby was parched and she had to nip into a local shop with little choice.
God forbid a baby should have a drink rather than get thirsty to avoid the horrors of some squash.

Maybe on the Capri sun the mum had accidentally gone out without the babies beaker and reacted quickly and picked up something just so they could have a drink? I'm aware I'm clutching at straws as my reaction would be to buy a new beaker but hey!

Pretty shocked at the coke tbh

I wouldn't give a 2 year old coke because of the caffeine, but do not see the problem with a capri sun, sorry.

She probably thought it was a quick easy drink, not realising the mound of sugar in it! I no longer drink them myself coz I don't want 25% of my day's allowance in a piddly little drink.

I beat you - my DM and I passed a woman on Tuesday who was giving her child energy drink. Couldn't have been more than 12 months old was in a pram sitting up. Me and DM both had Shock face

It's baking hot. If the baby needed a drink then what's the problem. In this weather drinks fridges are pretty scarce it may well have been all that's left that was remotely suitable. After all mineral water isn't suitable for a baby. God we have all left the baby's drink behind at some point.

You saw a snapshot of a whole day. As others have said it could have been all she had available at the time etc etc.

I have been known to share a sausage roll and a pink doughnut from greggs with ds when he was 11 months on occasion.

If you'd have passed up there would probably be a thread about it, but not about the rest of the day which had been full of extremely healthy food.

FGS, a baby isn't going to explode because they have a bit of sugar.

The sugar content of a capri sun really isn't that much different to a formula you know.

Actually at the risk of being flamed, a little bit of juice or squash in extremely hot weather like this is a good thing. Sugar really helps if babies and younger dc are dehydrated.

Capri Sun - 10% sugar
Innocent Smoothie - 10% sugar
Formula milk - 7.3% sugar.

Really not worth getting worked up about.

YABU and probably a bit snobbish. I bet you wouldn't have batted an eyelid at an Innocent smoothie which is just as chockful of sugar. Poor mite was probably a bit thirsty.

wheresmycaffeinedrip Evian is suitable for babies. In France we make up milk feeds with Evian or with Cristalline mineral water (both are approved as preferable to tap water).

OP I would assume in this weather that pretty much any type of drink is preferale to dehydration, and certainly wouldn't be shocked, so YABU. I would raise an eyebrow at coke, but again, the kid might have been exceptionally thirsty so it could have been a one off.
