...a Capri Sun orange carton on the bus? The baby cannot be any older than 8 months. And the other day on the bus I saw a woman give her 2 year old a bottle of coke to drink. I know he was 2 because he was telling me about himself!

SofaKing that is bad but DS1 once was toddled into a bush in the park and toddled back out drinking from an old beer can, I wasn't sure whether it it had piss or beer in it, it stank of both!

Ha ha, I love it that you were so shocked by the Capri sun that you had to come on here and tell everybody.
Might not be something I would do but I certainly wouldn't be riled by it.

Capri sun is squash right? Right? I don't see your problem.

Surprised such a young baby can cope with the ridiculously tiny straws that go with them, but the drink itself? And what?

Better a Capri sun than a dehydrated baby no?

I'd have judged but not been shocked by the 2yo with CC.
The baby with Capri would have been mine. Blush

You obviously don't have much to be shocked about in your life if you are shocked about a capri sun.

it's roasting hot she might have lost her baby bottle or got caught short...at least she was making sure her baby was kept hydrated...nothing wrong with a Capri sun or fruit shoot on occasions for thst matter. rather that than get heat stroke

The ingredients are sugar and fruit juice so not tragic. No worse than 'baby juices' I imagine and certainly no worse than a rusk.

But as coke is a diuretic the poor kid would only end up feeling still more thirsty. And needing the loo on the bus.

My toddler drinks bathwater, that she and the 4 and 6 yr old are all sitting in.
She drank paddling pool water the other day.
Capri sun? Meh.

My 18mo had one watered down in a beaker when out the other day as he's guzzled what I brought for him. Should I have left him thirsty instead?

What's the mumsnet issue with fruit shoots? I've seen it mentioned before but no idea

Any drink that isn't milk, water, pure fruit juice or overpriced, sugar filled smoothie isn't approved of.

No way an 8 month old could drink with a straw.
But, I give my four year old CS in her lunch box, I know they have sugar but I would rather that than sweeteners and e numbers (which CS do not have). I also have a 9 month old, and if I found myself in a situation where she was screaming on a bus and a drink would help, then I guess I would let her have some CS [shrug]

Why can't babies drink with straws?

Report

I thought there were two types of capri sun, a pure orange juice and an orange drink.

Of course an 8mo can drink with straws. It's just sucking.

Or maybe my babies were G&T at straw sucking. Grin

Might have to wake 9month dd and give her a capri sun to see if she can drink from a straw and my expectations have been too low for all these years.

I was talking to a woman whose baby was the same age as mine (4 months) and then as she walked away she gave her baby lucozade. Oh my I had my MN head on and was trying not to do the cats bum face, but I probably failed. Failing now as I'm posting about it. I don't think a Capri sun is that bad, they do all juice ones, maybe the baby is constipated-my dr recommends orange juice. (Diluted for the little ones)

Did someone really say "Chavs happens" on the first page?

Really, get a grip.

Bless, sheltered life much?

DS2 could drink through a straw at 8 months though and DD since 10 months - for the ready made cartons of wine, obvs...

Sorry controversial fruit shoots really aren't that bad. 5 calories 0.8 grams of sugar 2% of daily sugar intake. Think soe people need to deal with facts rather than fiction.
