...a Capri Sun orange carton on the bus? The baby cannot be any older than 8 months. And the other day on the bus I saw a woman give her 2 year old a bottle of coke to drink. I know he was 2 because he was telling me about himself!

Fruit Shoots are frowned upon for the artificial content. Lots of MNers avoid artificial sweeteners where possible.

I am far more shocked that whenever I pop into a large Sainsbury's near me they have no water in the chiller cabinets! I normally do this on the way to pick up my DD who has been working at the stables all day, and I forgot to put a water bottle in the fridge to have one cold for her. She would prefer water. (I did discover last night the petrol station has lots of water.)

Maybe the Mum was caught out and the baby was very thirsty, maybe it was one she grabbed in a hurry as she was thirsty and then shared with the baby. Babies can deal with straws better than sports caps. Maybe the baby has a problem and actually needs high calorie food?

But then I am a crap Mum (TM) as I have given my kids fruit shoots.

All I'm saying is that you are labelled a chav for making choices that could be the right decision for the child. My little boy gets migraine and has been really suffering. I offer water and juice and he sips it and doesn't drink it becomes dehydrated and very poorly. To get him to drink more I did by lots of fruit shoots Capri suns fizzy flavoured water. It was an informed decision after looking at nutritional contents etc. the plan was to get him to get into the habit of drinking again. I know before preschool he will happily have 200 ml of fluid before he has left and then he tops it up with water. He sometimes has it in his hand whilst walking round to school and I know I'm being judged but would refer this to horrendous headaches. It's not ideal but I know why I'm doing it although I find myself apologising for it.

You don't need to explain or defend yourself track. All those people who's kids drink water well aren't they lucky. But if its a toss up between massive migraines or a splash of juice then juice would win every time.

I cannot believe that children and babies are meant to go thirsty or get sick or be judged for a drink.

All those kids who do drink water, well no a fruit shoot isn't the healthiest of drinks but once in a while? Who cares the world doesn't end after one bottle if fruit shoot the kids are still alive and kicking. They eat dead bugs and drink bath water. At least a fruit shoot is an actually food product.

In this heat anything goes really.

I had no idea you couldn't give mineral water to babies/children. I gave DS a bottle of mineral water yesterday as I had taken his cup and he drank it all so needed something else. He seems fine though Shock
