...to think the beach is no place for a 2 week old in this heat?

Just seen someone post a pic on FB of them sat in one of those pop up tents on the beach with their 2 week old baby. Ok so its protecting it from the UV rays but from experience those tents get so hot!

We've spent most of the weekend indoors with our 5week old with curtains drawn as it keeps the house a little bit cooler and yes, I'm longing to be out enjoying the weather but my baby comes first!

depends if the breeze is getting into the tent. Their house might also be hotter than yours.

staffie99 · 14/07/2013 16:02

Image maintenance on FB trumps best parenting practice.

For some people.

WorraLiberty · 14/07/2013 16:02

Would you like a medal or just an invite to Buckingham Palace?

Just because you're keeping your baby indoors in darkness even though you're longing to be out enjoying yourself, doesn't mean other people are going to copy you.

Take proper precautions and go and enjoy yourselves!

WestieMamma · 14/07/2013 16:02

YABU

If the baby is too hot, he/she'll let the parents know.

ChristineDaae · 14/07/2013 16:03

Why not? The baby's in the shade, there's going t be breeze coz they're in the beach. Their baby s prob cooler than yours!

Pascha · 14/07/2013 16:03

I imagine the beach has a lovely breeze. Better for everyone to be outside I think.

WorraLiberty · 14/07/2013 16:04

And if you had 2 or 3 kids as well as your 5week old baby, would you make them all sit indoors with the curtains drawn all day, because the baby mustn't be outside?

ImNotBloody14 · 14/07/2013 16:08

My ds was on the beach at 4 days old on a day like that. He was plastered in suncream and wearing a sunhat with the hood up on his carrier.

I dont see the issue tbh.

At the beach the pop up tents dont tend yo get hot as there is always a breeze.

WorraLiberty · 14/07/2013 16:11

My DS2 was born during a heatwave and I used to park his pram in a shady part of the garden, so we could both enjoy the fresh air and sunshine.

EduCated · 14/07/2013 16:16

Right now it's hotter inside my house than out.

YouStayClassySanDiego · 14/07/2013 16:18

I'm sure the baby is their top priority too.

Try not to be too judgmental.

stargirl1701 · 14/07/2013 16:20

YABU. It is often cooler beside the sea due to the breeze.

mum11970 · 14/07/2013 16:20

Babies in hot countries seem to manage quite fine.

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 14/07/2013 16:20

A 2 week old baby can't let its parents know it is too hot.

I'd say, under a tree, fine. On a beach for more than a short time, in a tent, probably going to be hotter.

badguider · 14/07/2013 16:20

Babies are born every day in Asia, Africa, Central America... where the temperature will be at least 10degC hotter than anywhere on this fair island.

So long as the baby's in the shade and well hydrated I'm sure it'll be ok, and if not will make it's unhappiness known.

WestieMamma · 14/07/2013 16:22

A 2 week old baby can't let its parents know it is too hot.

Of course it can. Mine was very adept at protesting when too hot.

badguider · 14/07/2013 16:22

Also - it's about 37deg inside the womb so I wouldn't imagine a 2wo baby would be as uncomfortable in 'this heat' as say a 2mo baby.

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 14/07/2013 16:23

Babies in hot countries are probably kept out of the heat for much of the day. Hot countries have air-conditioning, or they have thick-walled houses and keep the house cool but shutting it up during the day with shutters.

A very short time on the beach OK, but I wouldn't do it.

Goal · 14/07/2013 16:23

Lol at the op sitting in a darkened room, lest the baby melts! What do you think happens in hot countries? It's not even that hot here!!!

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 14/07/2013 16:26

a child suffering from heat stroke may not warn you by crying

ImNotBloody14 · 14/07/2013 16:27

Hot countries have air conditioning! Grin

xkittyx · 14/07/2013 16:28

Not poor hot contries.

Sirzy · 14/07/2013 16:29

We went to the beach this morning as we knew it would be cooler than anywhere else it was lovely, quite a few people had tiny babies with them (and normally older children to) who were happily sat under umbrellas/in the shade .

Fresh air is better than being stuck inside irrespective of age!

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 14/07/2013 16:30

PFB mummy marter , would you like your medal now or later

GobbySadcase · 14/07/2013 16:30
