...to think the beach is no place for a 2 week old in this heat?

Just seen someone post a pic on FB of them sat in one of those pop up tents on the beach with their 2 week old baby. Ok so its protecting it from the UV rays but from experience those tents get so hot!

We've spent most of the weekend indoors with our 5week old with curtains drawn as it keeps the house a little bit cooler and yes, I'm longing to be out enjoying the weather but my baby comes first!

Do you mean this type of tent?

Quilty · 14/07/2013 17:39

No just a normal dome tent that you can camp in.

You are going to laugh at how ridiculous you are being once you have more children.

Nanny0gg · 14/07/2013 17:46

Went to the beach yesterday.
It was no hotter than 24 degrees - considerably cooler than where I live and the breeze was really refreshing.

Maybe they're being sensible.

CoteDAzur · 14/07/2013 17:46

What petey said.

Staying indoors with curtains drawn in what passes for summer in England is ridiculous.

NancyOsbourne · 14/07/2013 17:50

You have completely contradicted yourself - in your OP you said you had stayed in all weekend and longed to get out and now you say you have been out!!

Lots of kids live right by the seaside, would you expect their parents to check into a hotel for the first few months incase it was too hot for them?

I think you maybe need to be gracious, accept you are being a little silly and then get on with life.

ReallyTired · 14/07/2013 17:50

My daughter was taken to watch her brother's school fun run at 3 days old. Sometimes needs must.

CoteDAzur · 14/07/2013 17:52

We live in the South of France where it's considerably hotter than in the UK, and DS was on the beach with us within weeks of his birth. I kept him in the shade, and he was perfectly content. Thanks to fresh sea air and ambient noise, he slept easily and woke up happy.

50shadesofmeh · 14/07/2013 17:53

I took my 3 month old to the beach and we say under a big umbrella , believe it or not it was a lovely cool breeze and much cooler than my stiflingly hot house where my newborn was sweating and upset.
She loved the beach as she got a chance to cool down.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 14/07/2013 17:55

op you clearly started this thread to judge and to get a pat on the back for your perfect parenting.
You didn't get that so you start with the barbed comments and dripfeed.

cuillereasoupe · 14/07/2013 17:58

Another Grin at hot countries having air conditioning.

I wonder how babies survived in Africa for the, what, three million years before it was invented?

MrsSparkles · 14/07/2013 18:10

I would never have taken my pfb to the beach at 5 weeksSmile, but now would have no problems! Down in the South East it's been a good 5-8 degrees cooler on the coast than inland.

Plus we have no idea how long they stayed

TheFallenNinja · 14/07/2013 18:16

Unless actual flames were coming from the offspring of these seemingly reckless parents YABU

Loupee · 14/07/2013 18:17

We spent all day at the beach today, far cooler there than at home!
DS is nearly 1, however had we had weather like this when he was born I would have been there!

FrenchJunebug · 14/07/2013 18:54

What is it to you what those people do with their two weeks old?! Aren't you just jealous they are on the beach whilst you are at home with the curtain close?

babyhmummy01 · 14/07/2013 19:05

You are being ridiculous, you are not there, you have no idea what precautions these people have taken and frankly it is absolutely none of your business!! I hope I am up to a trip to the beach 2 weeks after giving birth to my baby!!

You have chosen to hide away inside, they have chosen to get out and continue with life - both are valid choices.

Please remove your incredibly judgey pants

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 14/07/2013 19:05

I certainly wouldn't have spent my weekend sitting at home with the curtains closed.

Almostfifty · 14/07/2013 19:12

We had a hot summer the year my third son was born. We spent it at the beach. It was the coolest place to be that summer. I sat under an umbrella breastfeeding almost the whole time.

I reckoned if my son was uncomfortable, I'd notice, as he was clamped to my breast most of the time.

It meant my older two had a lovely time with their Dad exploring the beach, playing in the water and just enjoying themselves. I was quite happy under the umbrella with my book and the small one.

Most people do know when their children are too hot or too cold. I wish we'd had a tent, it would have been much more suitable to where we were.

McNewPants2013 · 14/07/2013 19:19

Don't see the issue myself.

WestieMamma · 14/07/2013 19:23

No just a normal dome tent that you can camp in.

So you mean this type?

aderynlas · 14/07/2013 19:24

Hope it wasnt a pop up tent. You need at least four people to wrestle it to the floor and back in the bag !

WestieMamma · 14/07/2013 19:26

They go back in the bag? Shock

YouStayClassySanDiego · 14/07/2013 19:26

You're getting a pasteing OP. with some justification you should admit.

We all parent to our own tune, I'm sure the beach baby's mum would think you were mad to stay in for the majority of the weekend with drawn curtains.

Perhaps she'll start her own thread if she's a mnetter Wink

Fakebook · 14/07/2013 19:27

Grin why do people automatically assume you're jealous if you have a different opinion about something?

Sparklingbrook · 14/07/2013 19:29

I don't know Fake but it's really annoying on here. If you disagree you are jealous. Confused
