...to think the beach is no place for a 2 week old in this heat?

Just seen someone post a pic on FB of them sat in one of those pop up tents on the beach with their 2 week old baby. Ok so its protecting it from the UV rays but from experience those tents get so hot!

We've spent most of the weekend indoors with our 5week old with curtains drawn as it keeps the house a little bit cooler and yes, I'm longing to be out enjoying the weather but my baby comes first!

OK, last line of OPs last comment may have put backs up, but I don't get all the rudeness.

Wowserz129 · 14/07/2013 16:32

Judgemental much OP??

SauvignonBlanche · 14/07/2013 16:34

YABU, judgemental and a martyr. I bet it's cooler at the coast.

Quilty · 14/07/2013 16:34

I have no problem with taking babies out but need to be sensible about it, I don't think being in a tent on the beach is sensible, even if there is breeze, they aren't going to feel it. Where I am there is no breeze today, the house is cooler than outside.

YABU and am sure that for those parents their child also comes first. Good on them for having a 5 week old and being able to get to the beach! When my PFB was 5 weeks old I was still faffing about at home too scared to breastfeed outside the house!

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 14/07/2013 16:35

Are you all denying that pop up tents get hot?

That a tiny baby and excessive heat are not great?

Guitargirl · 14/07/2013 16:35

Sorry - just read baby is 2 weeks not 5 weeks. Even more good on them!

ImNotBloody14 · 14/07/2013 16:36

Well i have a pop up tent. I take it to the beach as i dont like the sun. It doesnt get hot at the beach. Too breezy and there are vents in it

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 14/07/2013 16:37

oh god am sick of the perfect parent point scoring on here these days, so glad mine have managed to survive my negligent parenting so far.

CuppaSarah · 14/07/2013 16:38

It's hard not to instantly judge, but you don't know how long they were out there, if there was a breeze or not etc.

YABU for judging them without knowing the details but YANBU for worrying about a tiny baby. It's never unreasonable to worry about a child.

5madthings · 14/07/2013 16:39

This epop up tents tend it have one side open and agree designed to circulate the air.

Mine all went to the beach as little babies, esp the younger ones as you jsit get on with life. I kept them shaded from the sun, fed on demand and had them in,right clothing etc its fine as long as you are careful.

Crinkle77 · 14/07/2013 16:40

I think it is a little OTT to close the curtains

Alisvolatpropiis · 14/07/2013 16:41

Yabu.

Children live in countries where this weather wouldn't be considered that hot and as far as I know aren't kept indoors until they're 5.

IneedAyoniNickname · 14/07/2013 16:44

We had a birdie fan that.clipped onto the pram/cot/carseat. No doubt we would have spent the day at the beach when pfb was that age, with the fan.

In fact we may well have done so, nearly 9years later I can't remember!

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 14/07/2013 16:45

Ineed

Yes, we had one of those. I had forgotten about it DS1 loved it Smile

Longdistance · 14/07/2013 16:46

It was probably a UV filter pop up tent. We have them here in Oz. And babies too funnily enough.

I doubt they have air con in huts in Africa Confused

YABU and pfb!

Quilty · 14/07/2013 16:46

My house is south facing, with the curtains open it becomes a greenhouse at the moment, there's no breeze here today, its the only thing I can do to keep the temperature down a bit. No I don't need a medal.

I am inland now and there is no breeze. At the costs there was much more of a breeze - that is pretty standard!

LadyMilfordHaven · 14/07/2013 16:47

They've been in your belly for 9 months. I think they'll cope

QuintessentialOldDear · 14/07/2013 16:48

How is the breeze entering the tent? I have yet to see a tent that keeps sun rays out while letting the breeze in!

OP, can you see the baby in the tent? Is there an opening? Is the tent sunny?

In many of these tents, you can clearly see they are sunny inside, so not sure what they are sheltering against. Draft?

ImNotBloody14 · 14/07/2013 16:50

Because the tent opening isnt facing the sun ( not on the east coat of ireland anyway) it faces the sea where the cool breeze comes from

MrsHoarder · 14/07/2013 16:51

pre-ds we lived in a flat which easily got to 10-20 degrees warmer than the outside due the facing and windows that didn't open.

Anywhere was cooler so a shady spot on a sunny beach would have been better. Also we live near the sea and the air is still in the garden but there's a nice breeze on the sea wall.

HolidayArmadillo · 14/07/2013 16:52

I took my 12 week old to Egypt. It's a wonder he survived!

rockybalboa · 14/07/2013 16:53

YABU. And judgey.
