CloudsAndTrees · 11/07/2013 16:16

Yanbu.

If the government are stupid enough to give out free money to people that don't need it, who are you to say no?

But if they have it to me I'd choose to spend it on handbags and holidays.

ShadeofViolet · 11/07/2013 16:23

I thought KiddeminsterKate was a long term poster with 5 children?

DocMarten · 11/07/2013 16:30

yes she is. But starting pointless threads with the sole reason to inflame is a bit ridic.

What does she expect everyone to say on this?

Tiredemma · 11/07/2013 16:31

yawn...

dirtyface · 11/07/2013 16:34

hmmm

i came on here to post pretty much what latara did

i get tax credits and can't afford to save much of them

whattodoo · 11/07/2013 16:38

I guess its your money, do what you like.

But I can think of hundreds of better ways to spend 5k. Holiday, outings, house renovations, diamonds ...

HappyMummyOfOne · 11/07/2013 16:40

"i don't believe that anyone who gets tax credits can afford to save any money anyway - I definitely can't."

Latara, theres another poster on here who admits claimimg tax credits and saving them and has enough to purchase a house now.

Lots claim and never use the money on the children, will be glad when they go as UC is far stricter.

DocMarten · 11/07/2013 16:44

Purchase a house??

morethanpotatoprints · 11/07/2013 16:49

HappyMummy.

Yep, thats me. I have just bought a house for cash with Tax credits (that weren't benefits) at the time.
They also pay for music and dancing lessons for my dd.
What is your problem with people managing their money. My dc have never gone without anything they needed, just didn't buy luxuries and lived a very frugal life.

OP, the money is yours and your dc to do with what you like. As long as you aren't starving your kids and meeting their needs, there's no problem.

I don't see how UC is going to change anything Happy perhaps you can explain it to us.

dirtyface · 11/07/2013 16:51

SERIOUSLY happymummy Shock

how on earth...???

Doingakatereddy · 11/07/2013 16:52

I'd be more inclined to have a boob job rather than nose, but that's just me.

As for saving that much money whilst on benefits - really?

bearleftmonkeyright · 11/07/2013 16:53

You are an incredibly goady poster. And I don't believe you. I call reverse Aibu. In which case I bet you have not got the full story.

noisytoys · 11/07/2013 16:59

We claim tax credits and certainly can't afford to save. It must be a very cheap house to be paid in full by tax credits even at the highest rates.

morethanpotatoprints · 11/07/2013 17:14

Noisy

It is our pension fund, my dh was S/E now a small business owner. it was 15 or so years FTC/TC/WTC.
The house is reasonable as we live in the NW.
We lived off the land mostly but were paying a mortgage. We just didn't have anything we didn't need and saved up over the years.

AudrinaAdare · 11/07/2013 17:14

The other poster is living with parents and has saved for a house deposit, not a house. No it isn't me. I can only save for the summer and Christmas.

HappyMummyOfOne · 11/07/2013 17:16

Morethan, UC is a lot stricter and expects all adults in the household to work etc so no more paid SAHPs etc. However, like with the tax credits system, it wont take people long to figure out a way to ensure they can still claim

propertyNIGHTmareBEFOREXMAS · 11/07/2013 17:17

Morethanpotatoprints- that is fabulous! Did you really save up and buy a house? If you did then bloody well done. I am really, honestly, pleased for you. It must have taken a lot of determination and scrimping.

morethanpotatoprints · 11/07/2013 17:22

Happy

You sound very bitter. TCs are only given to people who "have to prove their income". Ours has gone up and down over the years and now we only claim for dd, as her brothers are much older.
People will and are only able to claim if they meet the criteria, and you are probably more aware of the cut off point than me, because I know its nearly 3x our family income, so don't even bother to check.

frissonpink · 11/07/2013 17:24

No wonder this country's in the state it's in. If you can save the tax credits for a nose job (or anything else), how do you qualify for them in the first place?

Just this.

We qualify for tax credits and scrimp around buying everything basics. We go hungry a lot and DD has never had new clothes or toys bought by us.

I'd like to know how the hell you manage to scrounge so much that you don't need. Here. Have one of these. Biscuit

propertyNIGHTmareBEFOREXMAS · 11/07/2013 17:25

Exactly.
Morethan was entitled to claim and was very careful, sensible and frugal with the money she was awarded.

propertyNIGHTmareBEFOREXMAS · 11/07/2013 17:26

My post was to 'Happy'

yamsareyammy · 11/07/2013 17:28

Had a look at some of KidderminsterKate's previous posts.

You are a bit difficult to read on here really.

I have some questions, but you may not wish to answer them.

Do you work full time. Looks like you do.
And if you are eligible for those tax credits, which you may be for all I know, then yes, it is up to you what you do with the money.

I would question the nose job though.
I think you may be wanting to do it to be more popular/have more friends, but that often isnt the way to do it.

You may feel better initially, but it may not be the answer you are looking for.

As I said before, if your self esteem is low, that may be better to try and build up that instead.

Property

Thank you. Me and dh are a bit weird, will grant anybody that.
We lived in a small village and got friendly with farmers and local businesses.
We had eggs, grew our own veggies. I cooked so we had healthy food but not tons from supermarket. I don't drive and as out in middle of nowhere became self reliant, especially as dh worked away a lot.
Our neighbour gave us free hair cuts, she was a mobile hairdresser. Our dc have never had the latest gadgets and dh has always had a rust bucket. We have never bought new furniture but second hand/ charity as our houses have always suited old wooden type rather than new Ikea.
Oh, we didn't have central heating but radiators running off a woodburner and I cooked on an aga. We also got free wood. I say free we did do odd jobs, favours etc in return and barter was quite common.
We were a bit like "The Good Life".

Wannabestepfordwife · 11/07/2013 17:33

If its what you want to do then do it. If you got in contact with closer magazine and the mail I'm sure they would pay you so you could go for a better surgeon

propertyNIGHTmareBEFOREXMAS · 11/07/2013 17:34

Wow, Morethan. That is really inspiring. Good for you, it is great that you used the money to acquire a house and gain security for your family.
