How did you manage to save £5k in just 15 months from tax credits? Or are they worth more than I thought?

crashdoll · 11/07/2013 14:51

Assuming this is serious..............

I smashed my nose to smithereens and spent about 6 months researching rhinoplasty. £5K won't get you very far and be careful, many people are seriously disappointed with the outcome. I decided against it in the end. I'm still the same person I always was, just with a wonky nose.

Pennyacrossthehall · 11/07/2013 14:53

Two words:

Michael
Jackson

AudrinaAdare · 11/07/2013 14:53

I think it's like losing weight. You can lose weight without paying a penny if you are bullied about it and some people can and do become happier and more confidant if they do that. They don't go all on to find some other problem to obsess over.

I only need to lose a little bit of weight. Off my nose. But it isn't something I can do myself, not being a surgeon. I'd like it if I could shrink my nose just by force of personal effort but I can't. What I could do is go without a lot of treats and deny myself certain other things I wanted to save the money up instead.

ImTooHecsyForYourParty · 11/07/2013 14:53

I know, but when you're living it, I bet it's not so easy to think like that. If there's something about yourself that you hate so so much and really affects your confidence and there's a way to sort it and you think that it will change your life?

AudrinaAdare · 11/07/2013 14:57

confident!

Michael Jackson's first nose job looked okay IMO. He was quite human-looking and handsome on the cover of Thriller.

usualsuspect · 11/07/2013 14:57

Chinney reckon.

Why do I suspect there's a bridge and a billy goat involved here somewhere?

mumofweeboys · 11/07/2013 15:18

U have to declare savings over 6k to hmrc if claiming tax credits. If u dont your commiting fraud.

AudrinaAdare · 11/07/2013 15:23

I think it's 16k for tax credits and 6k for income support. Could be wrong though.

Working tax credit at the higher rate and on a low income comes to over 5K. Could be doable if you live with parents, don't go out, have more than enough clothes and they don't mind feeding you and your DC.

If someone in that situation moved out they would be entitled to even more from the state but obviously would be unable to save.

AudrinaAdare · 11/07/2013 15:30

Oops, no savings limit for tax credits but interest from them counts as income. Not sure where I got 16K from. Housing benefit perhaps.

SoleSource · 11/07/2013 15:30

Cheaper in Poland.

DocMarten · 11/07/2013 15:32

OP likes to inflame methinks

FuzzyWuzzywasaWoman · 11/07/2013 15:37

Are you Katie Hopkins? If so YADNBU.

SoleSource · 11/07/2013 15:38

Katie Hopkins hello, unlike you to hide.

AudrinaAdare · 11/07/2013 15:39

Oh. Not the poster I was thinking of then.

Jane04 · 11/07/2013 16:03

You obviously don't need the tax credits as much as other people if you can save 5k in just over a year. Confused

LifeIsBetterInFlipFlops · 11/07/2013 16:04

Seeing as it's my hard earned money, can I have a say in the shape of it?

DocMarten · 11/07/2013 16:10

something like this would look great on you OP

AudrinaAdare · 11/07/2013 16:11
Grin
DocMarten · 11/07/2013 16:12

or this, which would be much cheaper

yamsareyammy · 11/07/2013 16:13

Attention seeker, goader, trying to win a game, sad, lonely, bored, young, previously bullied, take your pick.

But, if you are genuine. Seek help if you need to.
Or, if have others have said, it is money you dont need for anything else, you could do it. But maybe building your self confidence would be a better spend of the money?

glenthebattleostrich · 11/07/2013 16:15

I wish I could get tax credits, my DD would love a pet goat and a flat screen tv!

yamsareyammy · 11/07/2013 16:15

She wasnt banned last time, so maybe MNHQ have given her the seal of approval?
